It looks as if that Twins sequel is moving forward.  Deadline reports that The Book of Mormon star Josh Gad and Ryan Dixon have been tapped to pen the treatment for Triplets, with Dixon handling the script.  The follow-up has Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito reprising their roles from the 1988 comedy as mismatched siblings.  As previously reported, the follow-up will find them getting in touch with a third brother played by Eddie Murphy.  Hit the jump to see what Schwarzenegger told us about the sequel when we spoke to him on the set of the upcoming actioner The Last Stand.

While on hiatus between seasons of FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, star Danny DeVito will take to the director’s chair for the indie comedy, Honeymoon with Dad. Written by Scott Atkinson (Windtalkers) and Tegan West (Hamburger Hill), the picture follows an accountant left jilted at the altar and forced to spend his honeymoon with his estranged, “larger-than-life” father.  Variety doesn’t mention whether or not DeVito will take on the fatherly role himself, but I’d be surprised if he didn’t.

Tapestry Films and Reel FX Creative Studios will produce.  FX’s eigth season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia premieres Thursday, October 11th at 10PM Eastern.  Hit the jump for more on DeVito the director.

It was announced today that production has wrapped on an apocalyptic thriller directed by Danny DeVito.  The currently untitled project stars William Fichtner (Black Hawk Down), Lance Reddick (Fringe), and Constance Zimmerman (Entourage) as three strangers who must band together in an apocalyptic environment.  The logline is as follows:

The film revolves around a wounded cop, a wounded murderer and a sultry nurse. The three are thrust together, as war rages outside the only possible safe house, an abandoned City Hospital. With no doctors and only a few poor decrepit souls as witnesses, it becomes a rats’ maze as the antagonistic trio get separated, and we find out the real reason they are there.

Rights to the pic will be shopped at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.  Directing-wise, DeVito has been behind the camera on such varied fare as Matilda, Death to Smoochy, and Throw Momma from the Train.  Hit the jump to read the full press release regarding his latest effort.

Production has completed on the neo noir caper Hotel Noir, and the first image from the film has been released.  Snakes on a Plane screenwriter Sebastián Gutiérrez tries his hand as a director at the noir genre in the 1950s-set film that centers on a detective holed up in a downtown hotel waiting for assassins to kill him.  We follow the detective through the night as he meets and converses with various characters who have haunted pasts of their own.  This being a Gutiérrez film, it’s described as a “sexually charged” crime film.  The cast is fairly impressive and includes Rufus Sewell, Carla Gugino, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Malin Akerman, and Robert Forster.  The pic is currently without distribution, but it will be shopped to international buyers in Cannes.

When Arnold Schwarzenegger announced he was ready to get back into the movie business following his tenure as Governator of California, no one was really expecting him to dive headfirst back into Hollywood.  Cut to 2012 and the actor has already shot a substantial role in The Expendables 2, just wrapped his “comeback” starring role in The Last Stand, and is poised to team up with Sylvester Stallone for the actioner The Tomb.  Oh yeah, and a Twins sequel.  Just last week we learned that Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito are planning to reprise their roles from the 1988 comedy Twins in a sequel called Triplets with Eddie Murphy playing their long-lost sibling.

We got the chance to speak with Schwarzenegger in a recent group interview and the actor talked about the idea behind Triplets, how his personal life has affected the likelihood of a sequel to True Lies, and he also had some choice words for the most recent entry in the Terminator franchise.  Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

One of these things is not like the other. Actually, none of these things are like any of the other…and that’s what made the premise of Ivan Reitman’s 1988 film Twins work. But how do you further capitalize on the hilarious assumption that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito are twin brothers? Add in Eddie Murphy as a long-lost sibling and call it Triplets. DeVito talked about the possibility of a sequel in an recent interview with Steve. Currently, there is no director attached, but Reitman will produce the project via his Montecito Picture Co. With the 84th Annual Academy Awards nearly one week into our past, I’d be interested in hearing from our readers what the one genuine surprise of the night was for them. For me, it was Meryl Streep’s Best Actress win. Now, don’t get me wrong, Streep is obviously an incredible actress who requires zero justification from a movie blogger. It’s just that, of all the award categories in question, I genuinely expected Viola Davis to win Best Actress. So, if you feel so inclined, sound off in the comments section below about your biggest surprise win/loss of the night. Sarcasm, including “your mom” responses, is encouraged.

From the creators of Despicable Me comes the animated feature film adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, a beloved cautionary tale of environmental conservation wrapped up in a colorful children’s story.  The 3D-CG animated adaptation is an adventure that follows the journey of idealistic 12-year-old Ted (voiced by Zac Efron) while he searches for a real Truffula Tree for Audrey (voiced by Taylor Swift), in order to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find one, he must learn the story of the Lorax (voiced by Danny DeVito) from the enigmatic and bitter old hermit, known as the Once-ler (voiced by Ed Helms), who let the temptation of greed and success get the better of him.  For more on the film, here’s some images, trailers, 8 clips from the movie, and the Super Bowl spot.

At the recent Los Angeles press day, I was able to speak with Danny Devito for our partners at Omelete.  During the interview, Devito talked about how he got involved in The Lorax, how his character changed during the recording process, his favorite movie, actor and director, if he would ever want to do a sequel to Twins, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to watch.

Dr. Seuss wasn’t afraid to provide serious messages in his books.  Not everything he wrote was Green Eggs and Ham (which, in all fairness, stresses the importance of trying new things).  Oh, the Places You’ll Go! is a moving story that could be read to anyone at any age and still be meaningful.  The Lorax didn’t have the joy and humor of his other books but instead left its readers with a poignant message and dire warning.  Illumination Entertainment’s big 3D CGI-animated adaptation could care less about either.  The Lorax gives a begrudging nod towards environmentalism, a halfhearted tip of the hat to Dr. Seuss, and then pours all of its energy into being hip and funny but succeeded at neither.

Universal has released new images from the 3D CGI adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.  Some of the images show the actors doing their voice recordings.  If you couldn’t imagine what Zac Efron would look like if he were in a sound booth and speaking into a microphone, your mind is about to be blown.  There’s also an image of the Lorax (voiced by Danny DeVito) playing cards with woodland creatures instead of giving dire environmental warnings.  There’s no time for games when the environment is on the line, Lorax.

A new trailer for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax has gone online. Directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) the film is based on the childrens book by Dr. Seuss and tells the story of a boy searching for the one thing that will win him the girl of his dreams. In order to find it, he must learn the story of The Lorax, a creature whose world is in danger. This theatrical trailer delves pretty deep into the plot, and it looks as though the film will be taking the story a bit further than the book, focusing quite heavily on the boy’s exploits around town (ie. running from the “bad guys”). I’m really hoping the story’s environmental message doesn’t get lost in the silliness. Things have looked promising thus far, with some great visuals and charming work from DeVito, so I’m optimistic.

In the domestic trailer for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, we got a sense of the romantic angle that directors Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) and Kyle Balda want to take, along with the story of the title character. A new Australian trailer for The Lorax omits the romance entirely in favor of a few new bits of footage. This promo focuses more on the legend of The Lorax (Danny DeVito) and his run-in with the Once-ler (Ed Helms).

The Universal Pictures interpretation of the Dr. Seuss classic will bring the grumpy Lorax to life in “IMAX Tree-D.” The film also features the voice talents of Taylor Swift, Betty White and Rob Riggle. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax opens on March 2, 2012. Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

The first trailer for The Lorax has gone online. Directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me), the film is based on the classic Dr. Seuss enviromentally-conscious children’s book that centers on a boy who is searching for the one thing that will win him the girl of his dreams. In order to find it, he must learn the story of The Lorax, a creature whose world is in danger.  As you’ll see in the trailer, there’s the unmistakable Suessian architecture and it certainly looks colorful enough.  But there are little things in this trailer that are making me a bit nervous about the film.  The framing device shows a bright and colorful world so the Once-ler chopping down all the trees hasn’t been too much of a problem.  Also, while I understand it’s a family film that wants to play up the comedy, I hope the Lorax’s message won’t be diminished by making him a creature of fun rather than a bearer of grave warnings.

Wrapping up filming on its 7^th season, likely to debut in September on FX, about a dozen online outlets were invited to hang out on the set and chat with the cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia while they were shooting their season finale. After observing a couple of scenes being shot, which were connected to the baby storyline from Season 6, and taking a tour of the sets, which included the very recognizable Paddy’s Pub, we were treated to a delicious catered lunch and then brought into a conference room to wait for the cast.

Show creator/executive producer/star Rob McElhenney, who has put on 50 pounds for story purposes, was joined by co-stars Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito for a nearly 45-minute chat, in which they talked about the darker tone, their jaunt to the Jersey Shore, guest stars, more serialized storytelling, themes of this season, the reason for the extreme weight gain, and their hope for a Season 8.
