First Trailer for Eli Roth’s Cannibalistic Horror Film THE GREEN INFERNO

The first The Green Inferno trailer has arrived.  The film marks Hostel filmmaker Eli Roth’s first directorial effort in six years and revolves around a group of American student activists who travel to the Amazon and are taken hostage by cannibals.  This trailer doesn’t get too deep into the plot, but it does evoke a rather unnerving tone as one of the characters finds herself, well, in a bind.  The film screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and drew strong reactions from the audience, with many noting that they physically couldn’t stomach some of the scenes.  In short, expect Eli Roth’s signature level of gore applied to the practice of cannibalism.

Eli Roth has kept busy these past years with acting and producing roles, but his new film The Green Inferno will be his first feature directing gig since 2007′s Hostel: Part II.  Roth has released a brief synopsis for The Green Inferno on his Tumblr: “A group of student activists from New York City travel to the Amazon to protect a dying tribe, but crash in the jungle and are taken hostage by the very natives they saved.”  As you can see from the image, The Green Inferno looks like Roth’s spin on cannibal horror movies.  I didn’t care for Hostel, but maybe Roth’s new flick has eased up on the torture porn.

Final Trailer for JOHN CARTER

I’ve heard good things about John Carter from people who have seen it, but sadly the film’s marketing has been a mess.  A recent featurette finally showed off the film’s scope and so does the final trailer.  But none of the trailers (except one that was fan-made, and far better than any of Disney’s trailers) took a single moment to explain who John Carter is, how he got to Mars, and why he has special powers.  Does any audience member who is unfamiliar with the source material, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novel A Princess of Mars, know anything about the character beyond “Shirtless Dude Who Fights Weird Creatures”?  The movie is titled “John Carter” and Disney never took the time to tell us anything about him.

Hit the jump to check out the final trailer.  The film stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Haden Church, and Willem DafoeJohn Carter opens in IMAX and 3D on March 9th.

Abigail Breslin to Star in A VIRGIN MARY; Carter Jenkins, Keke Palmer, and Daryl Sabara Co-Star

Abigail Breslin has signed on to star in the indie comedy A Virgin Mary, described as a coming-of-age story in the vein of Sixteen CandlesVariety provides the logline: “Breslin will star as a teen who vows to have sex with her best male friend (Carter Jenkins) if they’re still virgins by the time they turn 18.”  The report doesn’t specify the age of the sexually inclined character, but Breslin is just 15 years old now.  Jenkins is 20.  I like the premise, and it’s believable within the realm of teen behavior, but the Hollywood aging process messes with my mind a bit.  Breslin’s last casting notice was The Class Project, in which she plots to kill her alcoholic mother, proving the young actress really is growing up in front of my vaguely creepy gaze.

Keke Palmer and Daryl Sabara also star in A Virgin Mary, written and directed by  Beth Schacter (Normal Adolescent Behavior).  Shooting will begin early next year.

Smell the New Trailer for SPY KIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids: All the Time in the World may be so stupid that it’s brilliant.  There’s a talking dog voiced by Ricky Gervais.  Jeremy Piven’s hair is inexplicable.  The jokes are lame.  The kids don’t seem like they can act.  I don’t think there’s a single set that isn’t CG.  But the masterstroke is “Aroma-Scope” which makes the 3D film “4D”.  We’ve already explained how “Aroma-Scope” works but seeing it in this trailer makes it look even dumber than previously imagined.  I wonder if you’ll use it when the kid’s bag of vomit hits a bad guy in the face.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Jessica Alba, Alex Vega, Daryl Sabara, and Joel McHale.  Spy Kids: All the Time in the World opens August 19th.

International Trailer for SPY KIDS 4: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

The trailer for Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World has gone online.  The film stars Jessica Alba as Marissa Cortez Wilson, a retired spy who returns to the espionage alongside her two step children Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook), the new “Spy Kids”, to defeat the evil Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven).  Antonio Banderas, Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega, and Daryl Sabara are all set to return and they’ll be joined by series newcomer Joel McHale.  Even though I enjoyed the first two Spy Kids films, this one looks like a challenge.   Bad guys getting hits with bags of vomit doesn’t exactly have the same charm as a Spy Kid having a watch that does everything but tell time.  I know these are movies for kids, but they used to be movies their parents could also enjoy and I’m not really seeing that in this international trailer.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World opens in 3D (I’m not sure why the trailer says “4D” unless all theaters magically got glasses-free 3D screens) on August 19th.

With production underway on director Andrew Stanton’s John Carter of Mars in London, Walt Disney has released the synopsis for the movie and also started a Facebook fan page for the film.  Here’s what they sent over:

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo,” “WALL-E”), JOHN CARTER OF MARS brings this captivating hero to the big screen in a stunning adventure epic set on the wounded planet of Mars, a world inhabited by warrior tribes and exotic desert beings.  Based on the first of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “Barsoom Series,” the film chronicles the journey of Civil-War veteran John Carter (TAYLOR KITSCH), who finds himself battling a new and mysterious war amidst a host of strange Martian inhabitants, including Tars Tarkas (WILLEM DAFOE) and Dejah Thoris (LYNN COLLINS).

JOHN CARTER OF MARS Begins, Marks a Science-Fiction Milestone

Andrew Stanton has made quite a name for himself at Pixar, but his first endeavor in live action films begins today as his adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ beloved John Carter of Mars starts principal photography in London. Burroughs’ string of books, written in the early 20th century, are collectively known as the “Barsoom” series and have inspired authors Arthur C. Clarke, Ray Bradbury, and Robert A. Heinlein, while also having a heavy influence on Star Wars and Avatar.

Having already read the first in the series, A Princess of Mars, I have to say that there is much to be excited about as Burroughs brings an epic scale and an incredibly imagined world with resonating themes and lots of sword fighting. Joining the Academy Award-winning director is an all-star cast, including Taylor Kitsch as John Carter, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Thomas Haden Church, Polly Walker, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Bryan Cranston, and Daryl Sabara.

For the full press release, including a plot synopsis and the incredible team Stanton has assembled, hit the jump.

Exclusive: Robin Williams and Bobcat Goldthwait Video Interview WORLD’S GREATEST DAD

by     Posted 5 years, 32 days ago

When you go to a film festival, you never know what’s going to stand out. Often the film you expect to love isn’t anything special, and a film that’s completely off everyone’s radar is the one you’re raving about. And that’s exactly what happened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival when I saw writer/director Bobcat Goldthwait’s “World’s Greatest Dad”. To say the film is great is a disservice, as it’s so awesome that just saying great isn’t good enough. I absolutely cannot recommend this film enough as it had me laughing from beginning to end with an amazing script and fantastic performances.

So to help promote the limited theatrical release of “World’s Greatest Dad”, the other day I got to speak with Robin Williams and Bobcat Goldthwait and the interview is after the jump. They tell some great stories about making the film. Also, for those not familiar with the movie, after the jump are links to the red band trailer and some movie clips.
