Rumor: Will Dave Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer Have ‘Significant Role’ in AVENGERS 3?

We know we’ve got a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel coming on July 28, 2017, but what’s to stop the characters from popping up in other Marvel movies as well?  Knowing the MCU and what the filmmakers have already teased, nothing at all.  In fact, a report just surfaced claiming that Dave Bautista is currently restructuring his contract so that he’ll benefit from Guardians’ financial success and also lock himself in for “a number of other Marvel movies,” including Avengers 3.

Having walked into Guardians expecting to play favorites with Star Lord (Chris Pratt) and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer proved to be quite the surprise, winning me over with his hilariously literally approach to everything, so at this point, I say the more Drax the better.  Hit the jump for more on his possible multiple Marvel movie return.

Watch: The Best GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Scene Is Now Online

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has a number of memorable sequences thanks largely to Chris Pratt and a killer soundtrack, but one sequence in particular is positively swell.  The scene comes from the latter third of the film and involves a certain dance, and I’d argue that it is impossible not to smile when watching it.  Since the scene could be considered a spoiler, many were remiss to talk about it openly for fear of spoiling the surprise, but the scene has now been released online in its entirety and it is glorious.  I’m keeping it vague here on the front page for those that haven’t seen the movie yet, but if you have, odds are you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Now playing around the world is director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.  As most of you know, the story follows five intergalactic misfits—Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper)—as they set out to protect a powerful and mysterious orb from the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).  For more on the film, read Matt’s review or click here for all our previous coverage.

At the Los Angeles press day, I landed an exclusive video interview with Dave Bautista.  He talked about how no one in the film acts like they’re in a sci-fi movie, the humor, if he knew it would be so funny while filming, if he has thought about what he’d like to see in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and more.  Hit the jump to watch.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Review

guardians-of-the-galaxy-review

Leading up to Guardians of the Galaxy, there’s been a persistent question among pundits, analysts, and even Marvel fans about whether or not the studio’s new film is “too weird”.  Somehow, we’ve come to expect a guy who can invent anything, an alien Norseman with a magic hammer, and a guy who was put into suspended animation instead of dying of hypothermia are all credible protagonists worthy of their own movies.  But once you go into outer space and feature a talking raccoon, all bets are off. Writer-director James Gunn has no problem convincing us of his space oddities as he taps into universally beloved qualities like humor, warmth, and a sense of adventure.  Although he’s still a little trapped by some familiar plot points and a few underdeveloped main characters, these are minor qualms in a movie that’s a total blast.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Benicio Del Toro, Vin Diesel and James Gunn Talk GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is such a fun ride, with great action, plenty of laughs, a ton of heart and perfect choices in music.  It will have you singing along, and cheering for the snarky Rocket Raccoon and a talking tree named Groot.

During a conference at the film’s press day actors Chris Pratt (“Peter Quill”/”Star-Lord”), Zoe Saldana (“Gamora”), Dave Bautista (“Dax the Destroyer”), Michael Rooker (“Yondu”), Benicio Del Toro (“The Collector”) and Vin Diesel (“Groot”) were joined by director James Gunn to talk about what attracted them to this project, how liberating it is to not have to fit into the regular Marvel scheme of things, why Yondu is such a bad-ass, fighting the right attitude for Peter Quill/Star-Lord, the emotional journey of the story, the process for having the music organically come from and compliment the story, the physicality of these roles, why the movie references Kevin Bacon, and everyone’s favorite song on the soundtrack.  Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

With just a little over a week to go until its big release, early Guardians of the Galaxy reactions are coming in and, as we told you yesterday, they’re tremendously positive.  There’s always been a chance this whole thing could go south considering it’s such an unusual and highly stylized Marvel film, but ever since that very first trailer dropped back in February, it really did seem like James Gunn pulled it off.  At this point we’ve got loads of quality promotional material to further prove Guardians could be a standout, all of these adoring first reactions, and now we can add a solid extended clip from the film to the collection, too.

The piece is nearly five minutes long and gives us some serious background on all five main characters and also an extensive look at what goes down when the team is thrown in The Kyln.  Guardians of the Galaxy arrives in theaters in 3D on August 1st.  It stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee PaceKaren GillanGlenn CloseBenicio Del ToroMichael RookerJohn C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz, and features the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.  Hit the jump for the Guardians of the Galaxy extended clip.

It’s only two weeks or so until director James Gunn’s Marvel tentpole Guardians of the Galaxy hits US screens (it opens internationally a few days prior).  As you can tell by my reaction to the footage that was screened from the film last week, I’m quite excited for this picture (you should also check out the new TV spots that hit yesterday if you missed them).  Today sees the release of three character posters.  John C. Reilly’s Corpsman Dey, Glenn Close’s Nova Prime and Michael Rooker‘s Yondu.

Guardians of the Galaxy also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee PaceKaren GillanBenicio Del ToroDjimon HounsouPeter Serafinowicz, and the voices of Bradley CooperVin Diesel, and Josh Brolin.  It opens in 2D and 3D on August 1st.  Hit the jump for the new Guardians of the Galaxy character posters!

Marvel has released more Guardians of the Galaxy images online.  The story follows five intergalactic misfits—Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper)—as they set out to protect a powerful and mysterious orb from the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).  I wouldn’t go so far as to qualify these stills as “new” since we’ve seen most of them in the trailers, but I still appreciate the high-quality close-ups, and I certainly don’t want to see new images that end up spoiling the film.

Hit the jump to check out the Guardians of the Galaxy images.  The film opens in 3D on August 1st, and also stars Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz.

Dave Bautista Talks Fight Scenes and Finding The Humor in Drax on the Set of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

guardians-of-the-galaxy-dave-bautista-interview

While I’ve been very lucky to spend a lot of time on movie sets, one of the things that blew me away about my Guardians of the Galaxy set visit was seeing Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) up close.  You might think some of his look was created in a computer, but it’s actually all Bautista, along with five makeup artists spending four hours a day getting him camera ready.  While I’ve seen plenty of practical makeup done well, the work that was done on Guardians of the Galaxy is spectacular and it’s going to make kids think they’re real.

During a break in filming last year on set, I got to participate in a group interview with Dave Bautista.  He talked about the fight scenes, finding the humor in Drax, how his whole purpose is to get even with Thanos, how happy he was to land the role, Drax’s relationship with the other Guardians, the makeup process, and so much more.  It’s a great interview so check it out after the jump.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Footage Review: Evan’s Reaction to Marvel Screening 17 Minutes of Footage

guardians-of-the-galaxy-footage-review

I’ve been more excited about Guardians of the Galaxy than I have most other Marvel films for some time now.  I’m a huge fan of director James Gunn (Slither, Super) and the potential for strong authorial voices gets me more excited for tentpoles (see also Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 and Edgar Wright’s unfortunately cancelled take on Ant-Man).  While I generally like Marvel movies, there’s something about the humor in all of the Guardians of the Galaxy promos that I’ve seen that has colluded with my fandom of Gunn to raise my expectations for this film.  So when an invitation came my way to preview 17 minutes of the film in 3D IMAX this evening at the TLC Chinese Theater, I leapt at it despite the fact that I would essentially just be watching 17 minutes of footage I’d be seeing in a more complete context within a matter of weeks.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee PaceKaren GillanGlenn CloseBenicio Del ToroDjimon HounsouJohn C. A few new Guardians of the Galaxy images from director James Gunn’s Marvel adaptation have arrived, as anticipation for the space-set adventure continues to grow.  These new images give us a couple of better looks at titular team members Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), and with the film’s release less than a month away, I’m enthused by how little I feel like I’ve seen from the pic.  Indeed, Guardians ventures into an entirely new area of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I’m eager to experience something fresh and weird following the latest string of sequels.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Profile: Get to Know Drax the Destroyer

by     Posted 74 days ago

guardians-of-the-galaxy-drax-the-destroyer

Drax!  The Destroyer!  Played by wrestling superstar Dave Bautista, this is one of two members of the Guardians of the Galaxy with a green complexion.  To describe Drax as part of the team, think of him as the “Wolverine” of the group.  Dark, brooding, and typically a loner by trade, Drax has one mission and one mission only: to destroy the Mad Titan, Thanos.  Whether or not this will remain true in the Marvel film, aptly titled Guardians of the Galaxy, is yet to be seen. But rest assured, Drax’s hot temper and solitary personality most assuredly will.  Of the Guardians, Drax probably has the most appearances in the Marvel universe under his belt, and this article will help to shed some light on the one man army.  Hit the jump to read on.
