Every previous season of Showtime’s Dexter has been positively packed with tension and season seven is promising to continue that trend. For those of you who haven’t caught up with the show, we’ll save the spoilers until after the jump. Let’s just say that Dexter (Michael C. Hall) was in a tight spot at the end of season six. While this happens nearly every season, the current predicament hits pretty close to home. Unfortunately, the new trailer is super spoilery, so only go ahead and hit the jump if that doesn’t bother you. Dexter, also starring Jennifer Carpenter, Lauren Velez, David Zayas, C.S. Lee and show newcomers Yvonne Strahovski, Ray Stevenson and Jason Gedrick, returns Sunday, September 30th at 9PM on Showtime. Hit the jump to see the bloody new trailer.

Showtime has released a short teaser trailer for season seven of Dexter featuring tons of never-before-seen footage. The catch? It all blurs by in about five seconds. Try as I might, I wasn’t able to capture any images of the show’s newcomer, Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck), so she may or may not be featured in the teaser. People who are featured include Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, David Zayas, James Remar, C.S. Lee and Desmond Harrington. Obviously, if you haven’t caught up to the dramatic conclusion of the season six finale, you should steer clear of any of the following information as it contains heavy spoilers. Dexter returns to Showtime for its seventh season starting September 30th. Hit the jump to check out the teaser.

When we reunite with our favorite serial killer Dexter (Michael C. Hall) for the season six premiere, it’s been a year since our dark passenger helped and hooked up with the troubled Lumen (Julia Stiles) and brought down twisted self-help guru Jordan Chase (Jonny Lee Miller). While the previous seasons have had Dexter attempting to fit in through love and romantic relationships, this year he and his dark passenger are having a crisis of faith, at least when it comes to raising his toddler son Harrison. Really, the idea of romance all but disappears as various relationships from previous season (we won’t say which ones) have all pretty much crumbled, which makes for quite a lot of tension around Miami Metro Police Department. However, despite the high amount of tension that rises rather quickly in the first three episodes of the season, there also seems to be a higher level of humor, other than the usual dark fare, than other seasons. But that’s just the beginning of the strange changes happening in Miami. Hit the jump for the rest of my review of the sixth season of Dexter.

With The Brothers Strause movie Skyline opening November 12, we’ve been given 5 clips from the sci-fi thriller. Starring Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Brittany Daniel, David Zayas and Donald Faison, the movie is about aliens attacking Earth and the film follows a small group as they try and survive.
While I think The Brothers Strause last movie (Alien vs. Predator: Requiem) is a disaster in every sense of the word, I’ve got to give credit that some of the TV spots for Skyline look cool. However, anyone can cut a great TV spot. The question is…will Skyline be a huge bust or something special. So far Universal hasn’t screened it for anyone. That’s not a good sign. Watch the clips and judge the footage for yourself:

There’s always one big film that flies mostly under the radar at San Diego Comic-Con. This year, a panel featuring footage from fall’s alien invasion event film: Skyline, received rave reviews from those in attendance. I was invited, along with several other members of the internet press, to a special preview day for Skyline at Hydraulx Studios hosted by the film’s directors: brothers Colin and Greg Strause. Also in attendance to answer some questions following a screening of four select scenes, were stars Donald Faison, David Zayas and Brittany Daniel. Read the entire article after the jump.

Universal has released the first full trailer for its alien invasion movie Skyline and I have to say…it looks pretty cool. Directed by the Brothers Strause (Alien vs. Predator: Requiem), the premise is aliens have arrived on Earth and they’re not the friendly kind. Apparently the aliens emit some sort of light and if you look at it…you’re toast.
What I also like about the film is the lack of big name stars. Instead the Brothers Strause have cast Donald Faison, Eric Balfour, David Zayas, Scottie Thompson, and Brittany Daniel. Some of them you might recognize, but for the most part, they’re all fair game to get killed at any moment. Which is cool. Anyway, hit the jump to watch the trailer. It’s loaded with some pretty good looking special effects.

Dexter is a show that works thanks to a Herculean effort by Michael C. Hall. The show is founded on a precarious premise that depends on you investing in the adventures of a serial killer, anchored by a sardonic inner monologue and visions of a dead father. And with Chip Johannessen (24) taking the reins for the new season, Dexter is on its third showrunner in five years, which messes with the auteur theory. It’s not the effort of a singluar creative vision that holds the show together as Showtime’s flagship drama — at least not behind the camera.
Hall is brilliant. He has three Emmy nominations (plus a fourth for Six Feet Under) to prove it. Is it any surprise that he’s no less brilliant in the first three episodes of season five, reacting to the closing events of last season in which… Oh. Wait. This gets into spoilers for the first four seasons from here on out. If you’re cool with that, you can find my review of the first quarter of season five of Dexter after the jump.

For a film that trades fantastical B-movie fun for deadly seriousness, The Expendables needs a reality check. It thinks that the actors have on-screen chemistry. They don’t. It thinks that the script has plenty of witty banter. It doesn’t. It thinks that there’s thought-provoking pathos in the story. There isn’t. At best, The Expendables is misguided and at worst, it’s an over-confident mess that fumbles completely except for a few action beats.

Rogue Pictures have released the first trailer for the Brothers Strause (Alien vs. Predator: Requiem) Skyline. This is one of those movies that came out of nowhere to win over the finicky crowd at this year’s Comic-Con. As Germain wrote in his write-up of the panel, the Brothers Strause decided to make Skyline when they saw the success of Paranormal Activity. The difference, however, is that these brothers also own the special effects house Hydraulx, so the film looks just a tad bigger, even if it was produce with the same dogma. He went on to say:
The entire movie was made with only a crew of about 20 people, which made for a very rewarding and intimate situation. Skyline was shot with the new Red camera and, because you don’t need to light as much, it made the production much smaller and let everyone take more risks. Even the actors took risks. Because there were only 5 people in charge (the directors, a producer and 2 writers) there was no one to report to or to say “no” when they rigged up the leads to hang over a building.
After watching the short teaser trailer, I’m definitely curious to see the full film. Judge for yourself after the jump:

Los Angeles is having a bad Comic-Con. Thursday, the Marines were sent in to Battle: Los Angeles and Friday, a bunch more came back to the City of Angels, sucking them up like a vacuum in the sky. This latter film, Skyline, is the brain child of the Brothers Strause (Alien vs. Predator: Requiem), who decided to make a movie in their home when they saw the success of Paranormal Activity. The difference, however, is that these brothers also own the special effects house Hydraulx, so the film looks just a tad bigger, even if it was produce with the same dogma.
Friday’s panel was the first time anyone one has seen any footage from this humongous independent production and it certainly got people talking. Read all about it after the jump.

Lionsgate has released a few new images and a “sneak peek” from Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables. Starring almost every action star on the planet, The Expendables gets released August 13 and I can’t wait. I heard they did a test screening not too long ago here in Los Angeles that went over huge. Apparently people were screaming in the theater and having a blast while watching it. Based on the first trailer and the new sneak peek…I believe it. Hit the jump to take a look:

The trailer for Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables has come online and it’s not good. It spoils the Schwarzenegger cameo (we knew he was in the film, but they didn’t have to show us his scene), every attempt it makes at humor falls flat, the part where it tries for soulful reflection is where the movie looks funny, and I think the picture has become clear that this is what happens when you make a movie based solely on servicing the fans of B-action pictures. Oh, and when they do all the actors’ last names at the end of the trailer they leave out Terry Crews. No one leaves out President Camacho. Also, Stallone looks like hell and should really lay off the human growth hormone.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and the official synopsis. The Expendables hits theaters on August 13th.

Last night was the first test screening of Sylvester Stallone’s 80s-action-movie throwback, The Expendables and reader reviews have started to hit the net. Collider reader “TexMexes” was good enough to send us his thought on the film and we’ve included it in full after the jump. It’s a highly positive review of the film but just as a standard disclaimer, studios do send out planted reviews so just keep that caveat in the back of your mind when you read this. Also, this was just a test screening so things can and will change between now and the film’s August 13th release date.
Additionally, AICN has also landed a couple of reader reviews. One that’s lukewarm on the film and another one that’s positive. We’ve pulled some quotes from those reviews as well so you can check out those after the jump as well.
Finally, there was also a test screening of MacGruber last night so if any readers who saw it would like to throw us their thoughts on the film, just shoot us an e-mail at frosty@ collider.com and matt@ collider.com.

Earlier today, while most of us were trying to enjoy our Saturday, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger filmed a scene together for “The Expendables”. If you’re a fan of action movies, this is like Christmas morning. While the scene in question is just a small part of the movie…who cares! These three action stars have never worked together and even if it’s just for a moment in the movie, this is another reason why “The Expendables” is going to be awesome. More after the jump.
