Columbia Pictures has released the first trailer for director Dennis Dugan’s comedy sequel Grown Ups 2.  I hate myself for saying this, but I actually got a few chuckles out of the trailer.  After you get past the deer piss, there are a couple of ridiculous cameos from Shaquille O’Neal and Andy Samberg that are nice throwbacks to the zany Adam Sandler movies of old.  There’s also a nice flip on the “hot girl car trouble” scene from the first film.  And believe it or not, this might be a role that Lautner was Taylor-made for (sorry).

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film stars also Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph, Nick Swardson and Patrick SchwarzeneggerGrown Ups 2 opens on July 12th.

Adam Sandler has added fellow SNL co-star, Cheri Oteri (Liar Liar) and Happy Madison mainstay, Nick Swardson (Just Go With It) to the cast of Grown Ups 2.  Featuring the return of Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek and Maya Rudolph, Sandler’s first ever sequel will feature newcomers Taylor Lautner, Oliver Cooper and David Henrie as fraternity brothers who antagonize Sandler and Co. Dennis Dugan will also return to direct the sequel for Happy Madison and Sony.  Hit the jump for details on Oteri and Swardson’s characters.

Taylor Lautner Joins Adam Sandler in GROWN UPS 2

Twilight’s Taylor Lautner has apparently outgrown vampires and is now interested in comedies.  Enter Adam Sandler’s first-ever sequel, Grown Ups 2.  Lautner is reportedly in negotiations to star opposite Sandler in a role that would allow him to go “toe-to-toe” with the veteran comedian.  Details are in short order at the moment, but reports specify this only as a “fun” role for Lautner, who is looking for another big movie to hang on to. Since The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will be closing out the franchise when it hits theaters November 16th, and even with the lackluster box office response to Lautner’s Abduction, the young star might just strike gold in Grown Ups 2. The original film about a reunion of childhood friends grossed over $160 million domestically. Hit the jump for more on the sequel.

JACK AND JILL Sweeps Literally Every Single Category of the Razzies

Well this is quite something. The “Adam Sandler plays a brother and sister” movie Jack and Jill has just made cinematic history: the “comedy” swept literally every single category of the Razzie Awards, which honor the worst in cinematic achievement. Sandler took home Worst Actor and Worst Actress, Al Pacino nabbed Worst Supporting Actor, and the film itself was honored with a triple Worst Couple for Sandler and Katie Holmes, Sandler and Pacino, and Sandler and Sandler. All in all, it was a pretty great/terrible night for Adam Sandler.

Hit the jump to see the full list of nominees that Jack and Jill bested in each category. I keep hoping in vain that the actor will try his hand at drama again, but Grown Ups 2 is on the horizon and this unfunny streak appears to have no end in sight. As such, I’m assuming this isn’t the last time we see Sandler’s name on a Razzie list.

JACK AND JILL Blu-ray Review

Adam Sandler had a moment there where he seemed to have found what made him a great funnyman and showed that he had acting chops. And though he’d been great before, that moment was around 2008 and 2009 when he made You Don’t Mess With the Zohan and Funny People, but since then he seems to have regressed. After Funny People didn’t work, he’s now making the movies he made fun of in Funny People. Sandler churns out a movie or two a year with his crew of regulars (which includes director Dennis Dugan, Allen Covert, Nick Swarsdon, Jonathan Loughran, Peter Dante and a peppering of his old SNL chums), and in Jack and Jill all the familiar faces show up while Sandler plays twins – with one of the twins being a girl! Cross-dressing is an old comic trope, but Sandler and company do little with it. The film’s saving grace is Al Pacino playing himself. Our review of Jack and Jill on Blu-ray follows after the jump.

With the Kevin James “fat guy gets hit in the head with various objects” comedy Zookeeper opening today, it’s time for the trailer for an equally terrible-looking movie: the Adam Sandler-starred Jack and Jill. In the film, Sandler plays the dual roles of twin brother and sister Jack and Jill. Katie Holmes and Al Pacino (yes, that Al Pacino) co-star. The trailer looks like it could actually be a semi-amusing SNL sketch, but the premise holding up for a feature-length film seems more like a test designed to see how you fare under torture.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Directed by Dennis Dugan, Jack and Jill also stars Shaquille O’Neal, Dana Carvey, Regis Philbin and Santiago Segura. The film hits theaters November 11th.

6 Movie Clips from Adam Sandler’s JUST GO WITH IT

Just-Go-With-It-movie-slice

Columbia Pictures has sent over 6 clips from Adam Sandler’s latest comedy, Just Go With It.  The film is directed by Dennis Dugan (Happy Gilmore, Grown Ups) and stars Sandler as a plastic surgeon who must enlist the help of his assistant (Jennifer Anniston) to pose as his soon to be ex-wife in order to cover up a lie he told while romancing a young schoolteacher (Brooklyn Decker).   The film also stars Dave Matthews, Kevin Nealon, Rachel Dratch, and according to IMDb, Nicole Kidman.

While Sandler movies clearly follow a similar formula, a huge percentage gross over $100 million dollars.  And when you factor in worldwide grosses, you’re talking $200 million.  Say what you will about the films he makes, as he’ll brush off all snarky comments with hundred dollar bills.  Hit the jump for the clips.

First Trailer for JUST GO WITH IT Starring Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, and Brooklyn Decker

Columbia Pictures has released the first trailer for Adam Sandler’s latest comedy, Just Go With It.  The film is directed by Dennis Dugan (Grown Ups) and stars Sandler as a plastic surgeon who must enlist the help of his assistant (Jennifer Anniston) to pose as his soon to be ex-wife in order to cover up a lie he told while romancing a young schoolteacher (Brooklyn Decker).  I’m always let down when I see Sandler starring in another predictable romantic-comedy, but I can never really hate the guy for some reason.  I just wish Sandler would make more films like Funny People, Reign Over Me, and Punch-Drunk Love more frequently, but I’m sure those movies don’t bring in the big bucks like how Just Go With It will.

Just Go With it opens on February 11, 2011 and also co-stars Nicole Kidman, Nick Swardson, Kevin Nealon, and Dave Matthews.  Hit the jump to watch the trailer and to read a full plot synopsis for the film.

First Photos of Adam Sandler in Drag; Plays Twin Sister in JACK AND JILL

by     Posted: October 13th, 2010 at 5:34 am

Think what you will about Adam Sandler, but his movies make money.  Since 1998, 11 of his 16 movies have broken 100 million dollars at the domestic box office.  That’s a winning percentage for any movie star.  And even though most critics didn’t enjoy Grown Ups (his lastest movie), the film went on to gross over 264 million at the worldwide box office.  What I’m trying to say is…Sandler is very popular and I wouldn’t bet against him.

That’s why even though the thought of Adam Sandler dressing in drag to play his twin sister in Dennis Dugan’s (Happy Gilmore, You Don’t Mess With the Zohan) new movie Jack and Jill doesn’t seem like a good idea to me (especially after seeing these pictures), I know it’ll still make a ton of money and some people are going to love it.  Hit the jump for more pictures and what we know about the movie:

Adam Sandler Clarifies His Dual Roles as JACK AND JILL; Dennis Dugan Will Direct

Director Dennis Dugan will continue his longstanding partnership with Adam Sandler to direct the actor in dual roles for the comedy Jack and Jill.  Previously, we only knew that Sandler will play both Jack and his twin sister Jill in the film, deemed a “romantic comedy.”  That kind of ambiguity leaves open some dangerously icky possibilities, but recent comments from Sandler make it seem like the romance element is not a major portion of the narrative.  Interpret Sandler’s comments for yourself after the jump.

Nicole Kidman, Dave Matthews, and Brooklyn Decker Will JUST GO WITH IT

slice_just_go_with_it_nicole_kidman_dave_matthews_brooklyn_decker_01.jpg

Columbia Pictures wants Nicole Kidman, Dave Matthews, and Brooklyn Decker to Just Go With It for the sake of the Adam Sandler/Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy.  Directed by Dennis Dugan (You Don’t Mess with the Zohan), the film will revolve around Sandler’s character recruiting Aniston’s character “to pose as his soon-to-be-divorced wife and her kids to pretend to be his fake family.”  I can’t tell you how happy I am to see Sandler in another toothless family comedy and Jennifer Aniston being overshadowed by her male co-star.

Matthews, who previously co-starred with Sandler in Zohan and I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, will once again play a supporting role.  Sports Illustrated model Brooklyn Decker will make her feature debut playing Sandler’s love interest (until Sandler falls for Aniston’s character because you’ve seen this movie a billion times).

As for Kidman, her role is being kept under wraps, but Variety is comparing it to an uncredited comedic role like Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder.  However, Kidman does not need any image repair, but I would recommend being in good movies.  Just Go With It may not be the best place to start.

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston to Star in PRETEND WIFE

Jennifer_Aniston_and_adam_Sandler.jpg

Columbia is developing a Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy called Pretend Wife that might be directed by Sandler buddy Dennis Dugan (Happy Gilmore, You Don’t Mess With the Zohan).  While the story is being kept under wraps, it’s been written by Allan Loeb and Tim Dowling and it was once known as Holiday in Hawaii.  The studio is looking at Feb. 11, 2011 as a release date, which is the Friday before Valentine’s Day.

While Adam Sandler movies are definitely hit or miss, I’m always surprised to see anyone want to pair up with Jennifer Aniston, as she is box office poison.  With the exception of Marley & Me, I don’t think any of her movies are considered big hits and none of them have opened well.  Of course pairing with Sandler – who can open almost any movie – means it’s not on her opening weekend.  Kudos to her agent for pairing her with Sandler.
