Summary
The 28th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi's first film in nine years, "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" sees Benedict Cumberbatch's Master of the Mystic Arts return to action. With Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), fellow sorcerer Wong (Benedict Wong) and ex-girlfriend Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) along for the ride, Strange encounters America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), a multiversal traveler whose mysterious powers could doom the universe or save it. As Strange skips from one reality to another, he bumps into characters that are familiar to MCU followers, including his spell-slinging rival, Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), as well as ones that are entirely new to the franchise. Working with a script by Michael Waldon ("Loki", "Rick and Morty"), Raimi combines the well-honed MCU formula with jump scares, a bevy of cameos, roller-coaster visuals, and a soundtrack by "Spider-Man" collaborator Danny Elfman to engaging, if uneven, effect.
