First MILES AHEAD Image Features Don Cheadle as Miles Davis

by     Posted 167 days ago

Don Cheadle has been working on his Miles Davis film, Miles Ahead, for so many years now that his dedication to the project is readily apparent. The film has cycled through directors and interest from studios and cable networks through its development process, but Cheadle’s admirable steadfast desire to not make this a standard biopic. You know, those cradle to grave stories that are always made about famous people (think Ray and Walk The Line and then remember how fantastically that formula was skewered in Walk Hard).

Instead, Miles Ahead focuses on one period of Miles Davis’ life – his reemergence after five years of artistic exile, commonly known as his “silent period.” Cheadle will also direct the film starring Ewan McGregor, Michael Stuhlbarg and Emayatzy Corinealdi. Head below for the first Miles Ahead image.

Don Cheadle May Be in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON [Updated]

by     Posted 1 year, 9 days ago

Joss Whedon is currently very busy prepping the Avengers sequel Age of Ultron, and he certainly has his hands full with the follow-up.  Expectations are high considering the first film scored the highest opening weekend of all time and grossed a worldwide total of $1.5 billion, plus Whedon has to introduce new characters Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and villain Ultron (James Spader) in addition to juggling the already packed ensemble of the titular Avengers.  Now there’s the possibility of one more Marvel character being thrown into the bunch, as a new report claims that Don Cheadle is poised to make an appearance as Colonel James Rhodes.  Hit the jump for more.

[Update: We've updated the story with a reported confirmation of Cheadle's involvement, including information on his role in the sequel.]

TOP 5: IRON MAN 3, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Video Blog Review, PACIFIC RIM Trailer, Michael B. Jordan Next Human Torch?, WHITE HOUSE DOWN Trailer

by     Posted 1 year, 231 days ago

Marvel makes it look easy. That’s what kept running through my head while watching Iron Man 3 Thursday night. Pumping out one solid standalone film after another with the overall goal of creating a whole that is equally, if not more, entertaining than its formidable parts can’t be that easy. And yet, Marvel makes it seem that way. In a medium outside of their native reach no less. Granted, Iron Man 3 isn’t without its flaws. But it doesn’t have to be. It succeeds on the exact level it’s meant to: in moving both the individual character and universal stories ahead in an entertaining and logical way. If “Marvel makes it looks easy” was my primary takeaway from IM3, “DC has their work cut out for them” isn’t far behind.

But enough Marvel love for one opening paragraph. In this week’s Top 5 we’ve got Iron Man 3 interviews with director Shane Black and more, a video blog review for Star Trek Into Darkness, the Pacific Rim trailer from WonderCon, Fox’s courting of Michael B. Jordan the the role of Human Torch in its upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, and the new trailer for Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx‘s White House Down. A brief recap and link to each is a “Continue Reading” click away.

Don Cheadle Talks IRON MAN 3, Shane Black, Changes on Set, CAPTAIN PLANET, and If Rhodey Might Appear in AVENGERS 2 or CAPTAIN AMERICA 2

by     Posted 1 year, 232 days ago

With writer-director Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3 now playing around the world, I recently got to speak with the cast and filmmakers here in Los Angeles.  During my video interview with Don Cheadle, we talked about collaborating with Black, the awesome dialogue, filming the action, changes on set, the collaboration with Marvel on Rhodey, if he’s talked to Joss Whedon about The Avengers 2, will he make an appearance in Captain America 2, and the future of Captain Planet.  Hit the jump to watch.

IRON MAN 3 Review

by     Posted 1 year, 233 days ago

There are almost as many concepts floating around in Iron Man 3 as there are suits of armor.  The only difference is that the armors have a clearly defined purpose.  In an attempt to bring Tony Stark back to basics, his latest outing is a strangely bloated affair that still manages to be an incredibly fun thanks to the hilarious comedy and exhilarating action.  Without question, it’s the funniest and most exciting of the trilogy, but it’s also surrounded by a host of underdeveloped ideas relating to notions of desperation, augmentation, and obfuscation, not to mention the aftershock of The Avengers.  Like riding in one of the Iron Man suits, it’s a bumpy but highly enjoyable ride.

Finally opening Stateside this weekend is Shane Black’s Iron Man 3.  The international debut has already set new box office records and will likely set the pace for the rest of 2013′s superhero features.  In a new clip from Iron Man 3, Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle appear out of their armor as Tony Stark and James Rhodes respectively.  Rhodes-y is worried about his pal, and with good reason.

Also starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau and Sir Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3rd.  Hit the jump to watch the clip and a new TV spot.

Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Sir Ben Kingsley Talk IRON MAN 3, the Future of the Franchise, and More

by     Posted 1 year, 239 days ago

Kicking off the blockbuster movie season, Marvel Studios is releasing Iron Man 3 on May 3rd.  This time out, brilliant billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.), aka Iron Man, faces a terrifying enemy, known as The Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley), whose reach knows no bounds, and he must rely on his own instincts to protect those that he loves.  From director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), the film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow (“Pepper Potts”), Don Cheadle (“James Rhodes”), Guy Pearce (“Aldrich Killian”), Rebecca Hall (“Maya Hansen”) and Jon Favreau (“Happy Hogan”).

During this press conference at the film’s Los Angeles junket, co-stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Sir Ben Kingsley talked about the biggest challenge in making Iron Man 3, the transformation of Pepper Potts, how Rhodey has evolved, how much of The Mandarin was actually in the script, what director Shane Black brought to this installment of the franchise, finding the right tone, how much they wanted the aftermath of the events in The Avengers to affect Tony Stark, what they hope people get out of the film, and the future of the Iron Man franchise.  Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Don Cheadle Talks THE AVENGERS 2 and CAPTAIN AMERICA 2; Says “Conversations Have Been Happening” for AVENGERS Sequel

by     Posted 1 year, 243 days ago

As we move into Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this shared superhero world is starting to be fleshed out a bit more now that the principal characters have some experience working together in The Avengers.  While fans are excited to see how Tony Stark, Thor, Steve Rogers, etc. will be interacting in future films, there’s also the possibility of supporting characters from the standalone Marvel pics crossing over.  One of the most likely cases is that of Don Cheadle’s Jim Rhodes from the Iron Man films, as it looks like his alter ego War Machine will be getting a significant amount of screentime in the upcoming sequel.

Steve recently spoke with Cheadle in anticipation of the release of Iron Man 3, and the actor talked briefly about the prospect of him appearing in The Avengers 2 or Captain America: The Winter Soldier, noting that “conversations have been happening” with regards to the Avengers sequel.  Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

New Clip and TV Spot for IRON MAN 3

by     Posted 1 year, 251 days ago

A new international TV spot has been released for Iron Man 3, and MTV just aired a clip from the upcoming superhero flick.  Thankfully, neither the clip nor the TV spot are big on spoilers.  It’s just selling the hell out of the action, and that really can’t be spoiled since it’s going to be far more effective on the big screen than it is on your computer monitor or television.  My larger concern is if the 3D will help or hinder the picture.

Hit the jump to check out the clip and the TV spot.  The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau, and Ben KingsleyIron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3rd.

Robert Downey Jr., Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, and More Discuss Their Characters in New Featurette for IRON MAN 3

by     Posted 1 year, 256 days ago

Marvel has released a new featurette for director Shane Black’s sequel Iron Man 3, and this one focuses on the film’s large cast of characters.  In addition to a fair amount of new footage, we get to see nearly the entire cast (including Jon Favreau) discuss their characters and how the film stacks up against the first two Iron Man pics.  Naturally everyone has great things to say about the film, but Ben Kingsley appears genuinely enthused about tackling The Mandarin and Robert Downey Jr. claims that it’s the most emotionally satisfying and entertaining Iron Man film yet.

Hit the jump to watch the new featurette and click here if you missed the first clip from the pic.  The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, and Rebecca HallIron Man 3 opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on May 3rd.

New Deleted Scenes from THE AVENGERS and an Alternate Ending for IRON MAN 2 [Updated with Shawarma Featurette]

by     Posted 1 year, 261 days ago

Marvel finally released the massive Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One box set earlier this week, and included in the collection is a bounty of extras from the studio’s past and future films.  We’ve already shared a collection of images, video, and concept art for a few of the Phase Two films, and today quite a few deleted scenes from The Avengers and Iron Man 2 have surfaced online.  The Avengers scenes are minor bits and pieces that were nipped out of the finished film, but the Iron Man 2 footage is fascinating because it reveals an alternate ending for the film that involves Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash kidnapping Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper.  It’s rather anticlimactic and it’s not hard to see why Jon Favreau went back and reshot the ending that now concludes the final iteration of the film.

Hit the jump to watch the deleted scenes from The Avengers and the alternate ending for Iron Man 2. [Update: We've added the "And Then Shawarma After" featurette after the jump, which takes a brief look behind the scenes of the Avengers tag.]

New International Poster for IRON MAN 3

by     Posted 1 year, 262 days ago

I’m surprised Marvel hasn’t released an online app where you can mash-up your own Iron Man 3 poster.  The latest official posters for the film have been photoshopping previous posters together, and a new international poster keeps that trend going.  The new international poster brings together the final poster with the character posters for Iron Patriot (Don Cheadle), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce).  The result looks like Pepper looking down on tiny Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and saying, “Don’t worry.  I have your helmet.”

New International TV Spot for IRON MAN 3 Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow

by     Posted 1 year, 271 days ago

An international TV spot for Iron Man 3 has gone online.  The spot still has the grim tone of almost everything we’ve seen so far, but it also has the same amount of action.  It also has a very cool ending, and fans of the comics will enjoy the reference even if the reference will probably be unnamed in the actual film.  That’s all I’m going to say because some might consider what happens to be a minor spoiler.

Hit the jump to check out the TV spot, but again be warned that it contains a minor spoiler.  The film stars he film stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, and Ben Kingsley.  Iron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3rd.

IMAX Poster for IRON MAN 3 Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Ben Kingsley

by     Posted 1 year, 277 days ago

Films with an IMAX release usually get a separate IMAX poster, and Iron Man 3 is no exception.  IMAX has released a new poster for the upcoming superhero movie, and it’s like the recent U.S. poster except with way more stuff.  I understand that IMAX is bigger, but that doesn’t necessarily make the picture more crowded.  They’ve crammed multiple posters together, and the result is less than aesthetically pleasing.

Hit the jump to check out the poster and judge for yourself.  The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall and Ben Kingsley.  Iron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3rd.
