Director David Cronenberg occasionally steps out in front of the camera, and he has 26 acting credits including roles in Jason X and The Stupids. According to Yahoo! Movies, he’ll be working with slightly more elevated material by joining the adaptation of Don DeLillo‘s Body Art. Directed by Luca Guadagnino (I Am Love), Isabelle Huppert stars as “an actress/performer of sorts grieving over a lost lover who encounters a mysterious stranger living in her house (all of which may or may not be literally happening).” The film also stars Denis Lavant, who wowed audiences with his excellent performance(s) in Holy Motors.
This is the second pairing of Cronenberg and DeLillo. Cronenberg’s most recent film was an adaptation of DeLillo’s 2003 novel, Cosmopolis. It looks like Cronenberg’s next directing project will be Maps to the Stars, especially since Eastern Promises 2 and a remake of The Fly are now kaput.
Last month, we showed you a brief trailer for David Cronenberg‘s adaptation of Don DeLillo‘s Cosmopolis, which featured a potentially surprising and exciting turn from star Robert Pattinson. In the film, Pattinson plays a newlywed billionaire who ends up losing his bride and his billions in a single day. Two full trailers have now gone online, and Cronenberg is the star of both. Pattinson still looks good, but these trailers show off a David Cronenberg surrealism we haven’t seen in some time. And judging by these trailers, it’s very good to have it back.
Hit the jump to check out the trailers. The film also stars Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric. Cosmopolis will premiere next month at the Cannes Film Festival.
The revolving door that is David Cronenberg’s adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel Cosmopolis may once again be in motion. C7enma [via The Playlist] seems to think that both Oscar-winner Juliette Binoche (The English Patient) and Mathieu Amalric (Quantum of Solace) have joined a cast that currently features Robert Pattinson and Paul Giamatti. Although details on their prospective roles are non-existant at this time, the report does confirm that Cosmopolis is set to commence its nine-week shoot in Toronto on May 24th of this year.
For those just tuning in, Cosmopolis tells the story of a newlywed billionaire (Pattinson) who loses his entire fortune (not to mention his blushing new bride) over the course of one really bad day. Prior to Pattinson’s involvement, Colin Farrell was set to star alongside the now happily pregnant Marion Cotillard in the film. As it stands, the role of Pattinson’s wife has yet to be filled (given her age, I would be surprised to see Binoche here) although previous rumors have placed Keira Knightley in that spot. Of course, we’ll keep you up to date with the latest Cosmopolis news as it becomes available.
In what must be considered a big step in his up-hill struggle to gain credibility outside of Twilight circles, Robert Pattinson has joined David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis. Based on the Don Delillo novel of the same name, Cosmopolis has been adapted by Cronenberg and will follow a newlywed billionaire (Pattinson) over a 24 hour span in which he cheats on his wife, gets stalked, gets assaulted, and loses his fortune. Hopefully, at some point, he also catches a nap because that is one action-packed day.
In addition to Pattinson, Cosmopolis will also star Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard as Pattinson’s wife and Oscar-nominee Paul Giamatti as one of Pattinson’s two stalkers. Per THR, Pattinson is filling the role abandoned by Colin Farrell so that the latter can shoot the Total Recall remake that is scheduled to begin filming in mid-May (around the same time as Cosmopolis).
