Dwayne Johnson Teases Possible SHAZAM Movie; Announcement Coming at Comic-Con?

Okay.  So we know that DC and Warner Bros. would really like to play some catchup with Marvel and Disney.  Man of Steel didn’t do especially well, so they’re moving full steam ahead into the Avengers-esque territory of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, which will be shot back-to-back by Zack Snyder.

But wouldn’t it be nice if they put some solo movies in there too?  There were some rumors last month about a potentially leaked Warner Bros. schedule for Comic-Con this week that included a Wonder Woman movie, a Sandman movie and a Shazam movie.  And it’s the latter film that Dwayne Johnson seems to be hinting at.  Hit the jump for more on a possible Shazam movie starring Dwayne Johnson.

HERCULES Images: Dwayne Johnson Battles a Lion, a Giant Boar, and Puny Humans

Paramount Pictures has released a collection of high-resolution Hercules images from director Brett Ratner’s upcoming sword-and-sandals actioner.  The film is a revisionist take on the classic myth and takes place after Hercules’ famous twelve labors, as we find him “traveling with a group of mercenaries and cashing in on his famous name until he’s hired to train an army for an epic battle.”  Dwayne Johnson takes on the lead role this time around, and as gleaned by these new images, he looks to have his hands full with plenty of foes—both human and non-human.  Also clear from these new images: the man can wear the hell out of a lion hat.

Hit the jump to check out the new Hercules images.  The film also stars John Hurt, Ian McShane, Joseph FiennesPeter Mullan, Rufus Sewell, Robert Maillet, and Irina Shayk.  Hercules opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on July 25th.

Extended HERCULES TV Spot: Dwayne Johnson Battles a Hydra

Paramount Pictures has released a new, extended Hercules TV spot for director Brett Ratner’s upcoming actioner.  The “revisionist take” on the classic myth takes place after Hercules’ famous twelve labors, as we find him “traveling with a group of mercenaries and cashing in on his famous name until he’s hired to train an army for an epic battle.”  This new footage sells the film’s action angle quite hard, while also revealing that Johnson won’t be denied a few entertaining quips here and there.  I’m a big fan of Johnson, but I’m finding it hard to get excited about Hercules.  The phrases “Inspired” and “Directed by Brett Ratner” don’t exactly go together, but I was hoping for at least some sense of something new or interesting here.  Johnson’s charisma goes a long way, though, so hopefully his presence makes the pic worthwhile.

FAST & FURIOUS 7 Wraps Production; Shares Heartfelt Note and New Image Commemorating Tough Shoot

fast-furious-7-wraps

Shooting has just officially wrapped on Fast & Furious 7.  The tumultuous, to say the least, production faced innumerable hurdles following the tragic death of star Paul Walker in November.  I imagine those involved are glad they pushed on but relieved that the ordeal is drawing to a close.  I also imagine director James Wan has a bear of a post-production schedule ahead of him. Assembling the film in the proper manner to respectfully work around Walker’s death (and the various methods employed in replacing him) has to be a pretty intense juggling act.

Hit the jump to read a heartfelt note from the team and see a new Fast & Furious 7 image.  The film also stars Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa, Nathalie Emmanuel, Lucas Black, John Brotherton, Djimon Hounsou, and Kurt RussellFast & Furious 7 opens in theaters on April 3, 2015.

Dwayne Johnson Eyed for JANSON DIRECTIVE; Sylvester Stallone Teaming Up with Brad Furman for SCARPA

A couple of intimidating actors are lining up new projects.  Variety reports that Dwayne Johnson is in early talks to star in Universal’s adaptation of Bourne Identity author Robert Ludlum’s book The Janson Directive.  The story follows a former consular ops agent who goes into business as a private security consultant after becoming uncomfortable with the high number of sanctioned killings as a covert operative.  In his new occupation, he teams up with a sharpshooter to take on assignments that he deems worthy of aid.  Johnson is apparently keen on the project, which Universal views as a Bourne-esque franchise tailored for the actor.  Should he sign on, Johnson would also produce.  Universal is currently out to writers to put on the adaptation.

Hit the jump for more on Johnson’s upcoming slate and news regarding a Sylvester Stallone project with Goodfellas pedigree.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura Talks G.I. JOE 3, New Characters, and More; Currently Meeting with Directors in Hopes of Filming by Early 2015

Though many were rightfully skeptical of a movie based on a toyline, the Transformers franchise has become one of the highest grossing series of the last few years, with no signs of slowing down for the fourth installment.  The G.I. Joe series, on the other hand, has had a bit more trouble getting off the ground.  2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra grossed a so-so $302 million, and the series went through a semi-reboot with the 2013 sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  The Jon M. Chu-directed second film fared better at the box office with $375 million worldwide, but there’s still the sense that the series hasn’t taken off just yet, so expectations are high for G.I. Joe 3.

Though we know that Chu is not returning to direct the next G.I. Joe film, movement on the pic has been fairly quiet the past few months.  Steve recently spoke with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura in anticipation of the release of Transformers: Age of Extinction, and during the conversation di Bonaventura provided a status update on G.I. Joe 3.  The producer revealed they’re finalizing a deal with a screenwriter now and have just started meeting with directors, adding that he hopes to be shooting by February or March 2015.  Moreover, di Bonaventura discussed further expanding the role of Dwayne Johnson’s Roadblock and other new additions to the cast.  Read on after the jump.

New HERCULES Trailer: Dwayne Johnson Is the Demigod of War

Paramount has released a new Hercules trailer and poster.  Director Brett Ratner‘s “revisionist take on the classic myth” takes place after Hercules’ famous twelve labors, and has him “traveling with a group of mercenaries and cashing in on his famous name until he’s hired to train an army for an epic battle.”  As this new trailer shows, there’s a bit of God of War in the mix as the violent hero’s innocent family is killed by the gods, so the hero goes to take violent revenge.  And while I’m sure Hercules will be far less of a dick than God of War‘s Kratos, there will still be plenty of battles against Greek mythological monsters.

Hit the jump to check out the Hercules trailer and poster.  The film opens in 3D on July 25th and stars Dwayne Johnson, John Hurt, Ian McShane, Joseph FiennesPeter Mullan, Rufus Sewell, Robert Maillet, and Irina Shayk.

The first TV spot for Brett Ratner‘s Hercules has gone online.  Not to be confused with the Hercules movie that came out earlier this year, Ratner’s take on the Greek legend is billed as “a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist.”  The story takes place after Hercules’ famous twelve labors, and has him “traveling with a group of mercenaries and cashing in on his famous name until he’s hired to train an army for an epic battle.”  This TV spot contains some new footage including Hercules (Dwayne Johnson) throwing a goddamn horse.

On the heels of the first trailer, Paramount has released a Hercules clip with new footage.  Hercules (Dwayne Johnson) and his army walk into a trap set by ferocious, painted warriors.  Hercules puts on his lion head, declares he is not afraid, and then . . . the clip cuts away.

John Hurt, Ian McShane, Joseph FiennesPeter Mullan, Rufus Sewell, Robert Maillet, and Irina Shayk also star.  Brett Ratner directed the July 25 release.  Check out our interview with Johnson here and watch the Hercules clip after the jump.

Dwayne Johnson Talks HERCULES, Using Yak Hair, Working with Brett Ratner, Almost Getting Russell Crowe on Board, and More

Last week at CinemaCon, I was able to participate in a great roundtable interview with Dwayne Johnson for his upcoming film Hercules.  Not to be confused with the Hercules movie that came out earlier this year, Brett Ratner’s take on the Greek legend is billed as “a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist.”  The story takes place after Hercules’ famous 12 labors, and has him “traveling with a group of mercenaries and cashing in on his famous name until he’s hired to train an army for an epic battle.”  As you can see in the trailer, Johnson looks like he’s having a lot of fun in the role.  The film also stars John Hurt, Ian McShane, Joseph FiennesPeter Mullan, Rufus Sewell, Robert Maillet, and Irina ShaykHercules opens in 3D on July 25th.

During the extended interview Johnson talked about how the project came together, the tone (which he compares to Gladiator and 300), his look in the film and why he wanted it to stay under wraps during production, why he wanted Ratner to direct, how it’ll be PG-13 but they “pushed the limit,” why they filmed in Budapest, and so much more.  In addition, Johnson revealed they almost got Russell Crowe in the film but “we just couldn’t make the schedules align.”  Hit the jump for the interview.

First Trailer for HERCULES Starring Dwayne Johnson

The first trailer for director Brett Ratner‘s Hercules, starring Dwayne Johnson in the title role, is now online.  The trailer features Hercules fighting off a lot of CGI monsters while grandiose narration builds up the big reveal of Johnson as the Greek demigod.  It’s also a bit strange since the movie was previously billed as “a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist,” and I’m pretty sure I spotted a hydra and Cerberus.  However it pans out, this looks like it could be a lot of dumb fun.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, and click on the corresponding links for Johnson talking about Fast & Furious 7, DC superheroes, and G.I. Joe 3.  The film also stars John Hurt, Ian McShane, Joseph FiennesPeter Mullan, Rufus Sewell, Robert Maillet, and Irina ShaykHercules opens in 3D on July 25th.

Dwayne Johnson Talks G.I. JOE 3; Says RETALIATION Director Jon M. Chu Isn’t Coming Back but “We Would Love to Start Shooting in January”

With G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu signing on to direct a Jem and the Holograms movie, the status of G.I. Joe 3 became uncertain.  Would Chu be able to direct both films?  Would he drop Joe for a different 80s property?  During a group interview with Johnson at CinemaCon for Hercules, he revealed Chu will not be back for the third installment and they’re currently looking for a director.

However, before you start to think the Joe franchise is entering development hell, Johnson revealed “the idea is that we would start shooting G.I. Joe in January, in the first quarter of next year. That’s the idea.”  While Chu did a great job with the second installment, there are plenty of directors in Hollywood that can handle this franchise.  Also, Paramount has been working on the screenplay for the 3rd installment for over six months, so I’d like to think they have some sort of idea where the franchise will go.  They can easily bring in a new director and have it going early next year.  With the second film making $375 million worldwide, it’s a safe bet the third installment is going to happen.  Hit the jump for Johnson’s quotes.

Dwayne Johnson Talks DC Superhero He’s Going to Play; Reveals 3 Clues Including That the Character Has Never Been on Screen

Steve is currently at CinemaCon, which is a convention where studios push their upcoming films by showing promo materials, new footage, and providing interviews with the stars.  Paramount is promoting Hercules, so Dwayne Johnson was on hand to talk about the movie as well as some of his other projects.

During a group interview, Johnson talked more about the DC character he’d like to play, and while he wouldn’t say who, he did provide some clues.  Johnson said the character has never been on screen before, and combined with his other clues, likely candidates include Black Adam (the nemesis of the superhero Shazam) and Lobo (an a biker-style alien anti-hero who works as a bounty hunter/mercenary).  However, Johnson also notes that they’re still looking for a writer, so don’t expect this one any time soon.  Hit the jump for Dwayne Johnson’s full quotes, and sound off in the comments for who you think he’s talking about and/or a DC character you’d like to see him play.

Dwayne Johnson Talks FAST AND FURIOUS 7, Paul Walker, and Brad Peyton’s SAN ANDREAS

Steve is currently at CinemaCon, which is where studios peddle their upcoming films to theaters.  Part of this involves bringing the talent in to talk about those films, and Dwayne Johnson was on hand to promote his upcoming movie, Hercules.  During an extended group interview, Johnson also touched on some of his other projects.  Johnson talked about the pain he felt over the death of Fast & Furious co-star Paul Walker, the sorrow he felt for Walker’s family, and trying to honor his legacy in Fast & Furious 7.

Moving to a happier topic, Johnson also spoke about re-teaming with Brad Peyton for the earthquake movie San Andreas, learning about earthquakes, his excitement for the material, doing the movie in 3D, and more.  Hit the jump for Dwayne Johnson’s quotes on Fast & Furious 7, which has resumed filming, and San Andreas, which begins filming in two weeks in Australia.
