Universal Pictures has released a new featurette for director Justin Lin’s upcoming sequel Fast & Furious 6, and it features a whole lot of new footage from the film.  The follow-up to 2011’s Fast Five moves the action to Europe, where Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is trying to stop a group of mercenary drivers led by an unnamed mastermind (Luke Evans) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez).  Hobbs recruits Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew to help bring down the criminal outfit, and in exchange will provide pardons for the Rio heist.  This featurette has basically the entire cast and Lin discussing the story of the sixth installment in the franchise, and we’re treated to a host of new footage that highlights some seriously intense action/racing/fighting sequences.

A new theatrical trailer for Fast & Furious 6 has been released online.  Though the supervillain for Fast & Furious 7 may have already been spoiled, we still have director Justin Lin’s eminent sequel to look forward to in the immediate future.  The film moves the action of the franchise across the pond to Europe, where Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is trying to stop a group of mercenary drivers led by an unnamed mastermind (Luke Evans) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez).  Hobbs recruits Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew to help bring down the criminal outfit, and in exchange will provide pardons for the Rio heist.  This trailer is essentially a shorter, edited version of the first full trailer, but it’s still a fun watch if only for the reminder that we’ll be seeing a car explode out the front of a plane in the film.

Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.  The film also stars Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris Bridges, Elsa Pataky, and Gina Carano.  Fast & Furious 6 opens May 24th.

Over the past few months, we’ve heard a number of different titles (Fast Six, Furious 6) for the 6th installment in the Fast and Furious franchise.  But thanks to the studio releasing the first poster, we know it’s officially called Fast and Furious 6.  While I understand the logic in that title, I think Furious 6 sounds a lot cooler.

As we learned the other day when we posted the synopsis, the new film has Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) trying to stop a group of mercenary drivers led by an unnamed mastermind (Luke Evans) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez).  Hobbs recruits Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew to help bring down the criminal outfit, and in exchange will provide pardons for the Rio heist.  The film also stars Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, and Gina Carano.  Hit the jump to check out the first poster and come back tomorrow to check out the first footage from the film.

We’re still not 100% sure if the new Fast & Furious movie is entitled “Fast & Furious 6” (it could be “Fast Six“, “Furious Six“, or maybe even my personal prediction, Fast Cars Go Boom Now), but no matter what it ends up being called, we now have the first synopsis.  The new film has Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) trying to stop a group of mercenary drivers led by an unnamed mastermind (Luke Evans) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez).  Hobbs recruits Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew to help bring down the criminal outfit, and in exchange will provide pardons for the Rio heist.

Hit the jump for the full synopsis, and look out for the first trailer during the Super Bowl.  The film also stars Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, and Gina CaranoFast & Furious 6 opens May 24th.

FAST FIVE Review

You know what a Fast and Furious movie is by this point.  They’re loud, obnoxious, somewhat-heartless, sometimes unintentionally hilarious, rarely intentionally hilarious, incredibly aggressive action movies.  You know that’s what you’re getting when you buy your ticket and the only thing that’s changed about the series is that it’s become less about racing and more about squeezing in familiar faces to pull off some high-octane crime.  Fast Five ditches the racing almost entirely and replaces it with a heist film that recalls Ocean’s Eleven but with brawn instead of brains.

New FAST FIVE Trailer

With Justin Lin’s Fast Five opening next month (April 29), Universal has released a new trailer and the fifth installment looks to be the biggest yet in terms of action and cast.  When I spoke to producer Neal Moritz about the film, he told me the big bank heist (which you can see in the trailer) is around 14 minutes of non-stop action.  He said:

“That sequence of them pulling this vault through the city of Rio De Janeiro being chased by 50 police cars throughout the city is one of the most incredible sequences I’ve ever seen on film. The action in that is like nothing you’ve ever seen, it’s all real.”

While none of the Fast and the Furious films will ever win any awards, what I like about them is they don’t pretend to be anything more than what they are.  And with an April release date, the film should make a lot of coin before the rest of the big summer movies even come out.  Check out the new trailer after the jump:

First Photos of Dwayne Johnson and Elsa Pataky in FAST FIVE

by     Posted 4 years, 83 days ago

The first photos of Dwayne Johnson and Elsa Pataky in Justin Lin’s Fast Five have landed online.  Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordan Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Matt Schulze, and Ludacris are all returning for the fifth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise.  But fast cars, smoking ladies, and guys who spend a lot of time at the gym are no match for what this franchise really needed: Goatee’d Dwayne Johnson.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  We don’t know what the plot of the movie is and that may be the case even after the film comes out.  Fast Five is slated to hit theaters on June 10, 2011.  Click here to see other set photos from the movie and click here for Steve’s interview with producer Neal Moritz.
