As part of Entertainment Weekly’s ongoing CapeTown Film Fest last night, some lucky fans got to see a special screening of the Falling Skies season 3 premiere. From the first hour, it looks like the series is kicking off what some could see as a whole new direction. Once the episode was over, cast members Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy and Maxim Knight joined showrunner Remi Aubuchon for a special Q&A. In the Q&A the cast and showrunner gave teasers about what fans can expect from the show in season 3. Hit the jump to find out what we learned.

In the season premiere, seven months have passed since the season 2 cliffhanger and saying that a lot has changed since then is probably a massive understatement. Aubuchon said that the premiere will be an important episode in season 3 as every theme that will be in the new season is touched on in the first hour.

One of the biggest changes is Tom, who has taken on an entirely new level of leadership. Wyle described the direction of the show as a "big gamble" with such a large passage of time and so many of the changes that have occurred for a lot of the characters. Aubuchon also said that Tom's new leadership role will continue to be one of the most important themes of the season as Tom struggles with his decisions and constantly questions whether or not he's made the right one.

With so much time having passed, it's ...

Falling Skies struggled to find its voice early on, but has gotten better over time. While season one got decent ratings on TNT, I found most of the action and dialogue from the human survivors unrealistic considering their situation; the limited budget didn't help. Every episode seemed to take place on the same sets and I often wondered whether the show could live up to its potential. Thankfully, the second season was a huge improvement and most of my issues were dealt with. Characters acted like it was the end of the world, they didn't spend every episode on the same set, and as the season went on, it felt like it was driving towards an interesting conclusion. Hopefully season 3 will be the best yet.

At the VES Awards last week, I was able to talk to Drew Roy, who plays Hal on the show. We talked about his excitement for season three, what was it like to work with Doug Jones and the character he'll play, how much he knows about the season before filming begins, his thoughts on each season, and a lot more. Hit the jump to watch.

If Falling Skies doesn’t grab you right away, give it a few episodes. Amid the shuffle of Must-See shows like Game of Thrones, it feels a little quieter and more pedestrian. But if you remain open to it and let it find its rhythm, it turns into a thoroughly enjoyable bit of summer escapism. With the first season Blu-ray now in stores, those who missed it have a second chance to see what it’s all about. Hit the jump for my full review.

Though he merely serves as an executive producer, Steven Spielberg’s fingerprints appear all over the show. Invading aliens, families under pressure, the persistence of hope in bleak times…creator Robert Rodat follows the S-man’s playbook and reaps solid rewards in the process. The story concerns a sudden alien invasion of Earth that leaves most of humanity dead and civilization in ruins. The remainder of the species fights a guerilla war against the planet’s new owners, hoping to reclaim our home from an enemy that has overrun us.

We focus on the 2nd Massachusetts Irregulars, a guerilla unit consisting of former civilians, military retirees and flat-out criminals. Second-in-command Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) was a history teacher before the invasion, and now uses his knowledge of previous wars to help guide his comrades… while protecting his three sons in the bargain. His commander, Weaver (Will Patton) expected to be retired and fishing somewhere by now, but has to hold his crew together however he can. They and their followers scurry through the ...

TNT's hit sci-fi drama Falling Skies stopped by Comic-Con to talk about the current second season, the network's renewal of the show for a third season and how inspiring it is to have the audience's support. You can check out our previous interviews with the Falling Skies cast here. Noah Wyle and Will Patton completed the round table interviews, talking about what we can expect to see between their characters this season, the appearance of Weaver's daughter and the possibility of an alien invasion. Hit the jump to read the interview.

What else can we expect of Weaver and Tom in their relationship this season?

Noah Wyle: We were just talking about that. I think these two characters have probably traveled farther than any other characters from where they were introduced, being on either side of a huge philosophical and ideological divide. Over the course of the second season, we really start to grow closer and closer together with the understand that it's the synthesis of these philosophies that are ultimately going to make us successful. We can't be too humanistic, we can't be too militaristic. It's a civilian army, it's an adolescent army; it's going to require teaching skills and leadership skills, so there's a nice bit of transference that's happening depending upon what's going on in a given episode. We sort of alternate being mother and father to the 2nd Mass which I think is kind of cool. And I really like, obviously...every day that I get to play with ...

TNT's hit sci-fi drama, Falling Skies, landed at Comic-Con and the stars were kind enough to sit down for a round table interview. Drew Roy (Hal), Sarah Carter (Margaret) and Connor Jessup (Ben) talked about the second and upcoming third seasons of the show, gave some insights into their characters and commented on why they think audiences have latched on. Make sure to take a look at all of our previous Comic-Con coverage here, especially the interviews with other Falling Skies cast members. Hit the jump to see what Roy, Carter and Jessup had to say.

How do you all feel about the news of the third season pickup?

Connor Jessup: We can all say we're happy about the news!

Sarah Carter: We love the show, and the way we shoot is short seasons, so ten episodes per season, and long hours, night shoots, all exteriors, in the cold and rain...

Jessup: You make it sound fun!

Drew Roy: We do have a good time! We are shooting guns and riding motorcycles.

Carter: Where else are you going to have a life experience like that?

Why do you think Falling Skies resonates so much with viewers?

Roy: I like to think that we're telling this story about this group of survivors and sprinkled on top are these aliens in this post apocalyptic world. So it's something that you can really relate to and you don't have to be an extreme sci-fi fan to connect with it, but you can be a girl in high school and connect with ...

Falling Skies is a gritty, understandable drama that resonates with viewers through the commonality their characters share with us. At Comic-Con, stars Colin Cunningham (Pope), Jessy Schram (Karen) and Moon Bloodgood (Dr. Glass) sat down for a round table interview. the cast members pointed out that you don't need to have big boobs and look fabulous to kill aliens, talked about the confidence from the network to greenlight a third season and what they hope to see for their characters in the future.

For more insight into the success of Falling Skies and the actors interpersonal antics, continue reading after the jump.

Question: What does it feel like to have so much confidence from the network that you've already been renewed for a third season?

Moon Bloodgood: I love it. I mean, you do so many shows that don't get picked up or get canceled. It feels good when you get validated like that. Also, we all start to kind of relax in a way, feel a lot more confident, have more security in what we do. You can tell we're all happier in what we're doing, we're a little bit more relaxed, we feel like people are responding to the work that we're doing and it's just reassuring. It's a good feeling. I really enjoy it.

Colin Cunningham: Absolutely positively. I was just saying that as actors I think we're all grateful to work and, to be perfectly honest, to work on anything, but the great thing about Falling Skies is that it ...

TNT has decided to renew the sci-fi drama Falling Skies for another season. The network has settled on ordering 10 episodes for the show’s third season, set to air in 2013. The show premiered last summer and stars Noah Wyle as a former history professor who becomes one of Massachusetts’ military leaders following a worldwide alien invasion. The post-apocalyptic setting has apparently provided enough fodder for the series to prosper, as it averages 5.9 million viewers when DVR playback is taken into account. I haven’t seen the show but I know a few people who are fans, so this should comes as welcome news to those who tune in every week. The show is currently in the middle of its second season on TNT. Hit the jump to read the press release.

Currently averaging 5.9 million viewers, the series ranks as basic cable's #1 summer drama with adults 18-49. TNT has ordered 10 episodes Falling Skies' third season, slated to air in 2013.

"Falling Skies is television storytelling at its very best, a powerful drama that's told on both an epic scale and on a deeply personal level," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). With Season 2 of the epic TNT drama series Falling Skies continuing its extraordinary story about life and survival in the wake of an alien invasion, former history professor Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) is trying to regain his footing after returning home from one of the alien ships while unpredictable troublemaker John Pope (Colin Cunningham) is now the leader of a ragtag group of fighters called the Berserkers. Essentially, everyone just has the same goal of just trying to survive and deal with a world at war, and discover their place in it, no matter their methods of finding it. The show also stars Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Maxim Knight, Connor Jessup and Sarah Carter.

At a press day for the TV show, actor Colin Cunningham spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about who his character is now and where his loyalty lies, the fun of getting to be the antagonist, what’s most surprised him about Pope in two seasons, how different the dynamic is between Pope and Tom Mason this season, how amazing the genre fans have been, that he loves the level of imagination that comes with doing the green screen work, and what he’d like to see from Pope, if he gets to return for Season 3. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Collider: How do you feel about where Pope is now, as a character, from who he was when you first signed on to play him?

The epic drama Falling Skies has returned to TNT, to continue its extraordinary story about life and survival in the wake of an alien invasion. As the second season opens, three months have passed since Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) went willingly with the aliens onto one of their ships, and now the survivors are forced to have a nomadic existence as they march toward Charleston, S.C., hoping to meet up with other remaining existence groups and begin rebuilding society. The show also stars Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Maxim Knight, Connor Jessup, Colin Cunningham and Sarah Carter.

At the show’s press day, co-stars Noah Wyle and Drew Roy (who plays Tom Mason’s oldest son, Hal) talked about where things pick up in Season 2, how grueling it can be to shoot this show, the evolution of the alien battles, the electronics that would be the hardest for them to give up in an alien invasion, the input that they get from executive producer Steven Spielberg, and the dedication of sci-fi fans. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

Question: Where are things at, when Season 2 picks up?

NOAH WYLE: Well, walking onto the ship proves to be a really horrible decision, and one that Tom regrets, for most of the second season. He’s let off inexplicably far from where the 2nd Massachusetts is and has to make this pilgrimage to get back to the group. All the while, he’s wondering and ...

After only a few episodes have aired, TNT is confident enough in the performance of its new sci-fi series Falling Skies from executive producer Steven Spielberg that the cable network has just decided to renew the series for a second season. The new order is for 10 episodes, which are expected to air next summer. For those who haven't been watching, the series takes place in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. Tom Mason (Wyle), a Boston history professor and the father of three sons, must put his extensive knowledge of military history to the test as second in command of a regiment of resistance fighters protecting a large group of civilian survivors. Good news for early fans of the sci-fi series, and if you haven't gotten on the bandwagon yet, I suggest trying to catch-up in order to see what this show is all about.

In the new alien invasion series Falling Skies, actor Drew Roy plays Hal Mason, the oldest son of Tom (Noah Wyle), who is the second in command of a regiment assigned to protect several hundred survivors. In the six months since the invasion, Hal has had to quickly grow into a man, fighting alongside his father, and proving that he is both brave and confident in the field. With his younger brother Ben (Connor Jessup) captured by the aliens and his littlest brother Matt (Maxim Knight) struggling to cope with the situation, he has come to appreciate how much his family truly means, and steps up to help in any way that he can.

At a press day for the TV drama, Collider sat down with Drew Roy for this exclusive interview, in which he talked about how excited he is to be part of a Steven Spielberg project, what he enjoys about getting to play such a grown-up teenager, how much he loves the physicality and stunt work, how creepy he thought the aliens were, and how they end Season 1 with two different directions they could go for Season 2. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Question: How did you get involved with this series?

DREW ROY: Especially back then, I really was in no position to call the shots on what projects I get to work on. This one came to me through my agent, just like everything else. We even joked about the fact that ...

As co-executive producer/writer on the alien invasion drama Falling Skies, Mark Verheiden certainly has the sci-fi background and credibility to bring the highly-anticipated series to life, having served as a writer/co-executive producer for three seasons on Battlestar Galactica, a consulting producer/writer for Seasons 3 and 4 of Heroes, and a writer/co-executive producer for the first three seasons of Smallville, along with writing the feature film screenplays for Timecop and The Mask, and various graphic novels. Stepping in for Graham Yost, who had to return to the FX series Justified after the pilot had been shot, Verheiden used the great template that had been established and set out to continue from there, exploring a story about finding hope in the humanity within yourself, while recovering from this terrible event that has changed their lives and civilization forever.

At the press day for the new TV series, Collider sat down with Mark Verheiden for this interview, in which he talked about his vision for the show, intentionally layering Falling Skies in such a way that it can appeal to people who are not typically sci-fi fans while still making those fans happy, how the aliens’ plan will gradually be revealed over the course of the series, the challenge of giving it a feature film feel on a TV show budget, and how stories are already being figured out for a possible Season 2. And, even though he couldn’t say anything concrete about the status of The Dark Tower, for which he is working ...

On the new alien drama Falling Skies, from DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg, actor Noah Wyle plays Tom Mason, a history professor who never imagined that he would one day be waging war against an occupying force from another world. With his wife now dead and his middle son Ben (Connor Jessup) captured by the alien invaders, it’s up to Tom to protect his oldest son Hal (Drew Roy) and his youngest son Matt (Maxim Knight), despite having only an academic understanding of military history. Even though Tom proves himself a strong leader, he is determined to find and rescue his son from captivity, no matter what it takes.

At a press day for the television series, Collider sat down with Noah Wyle for this exclusive interview, in which he talked about getting this series through his long-term relationship with TNT, the nearly 20 years he’s had the good fortune of working with Steven Spielberg, signing on for this role so that he could impress his 8-year-old son, doing a show of this type on a television budget, how pleased he was when he saw the look of the aliens, and how incredibly gratifying it is to have such support from the network, so early on. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Question: How did you get involved with Falling Skies? Was it something they came to you about?

NOAH WYLE: It was. Over the last six or seven years, I’ve built up a really nice relationship ...

On TNT's new alien drama Falling Skies, actress Moon Bloodgood plays Anne Glass, a pediatrician who lost her only child in the initial attack. The heart of the ensemble, Anne has yet to fully face her own tragedy because she is too busy helping those around her. She has bonded with Tom Mason (Noah Wyle), as a result of their losses, and keeps up a sturdy exterior, helping the survivors cope both physically and emotionally with their situation, but she is quite obviously haunted by the death of her son.

At a recent press day for the series, Collider sat down with Moon Bloodgood for this exclusive interview, in which she talked about how lucky she was not to have to audition for this role, how relieved she was not to be the action girl this time around, how she’s a big fan of the alien genre and used to even fall asleep watching Aliens as bedtime viewing, and how she doesn’t take anything for granted in this business, out of not wanting to feel the disappointment. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Question: How did you get involved with Falling Skies? Did you audition for it, or did they come to you for this role?

Earlier this month, Adam brought you his thoughts on the Falling Skies footage that debuted at WonderCon. Today, you can check out some of the eerie footage for yourself in the form of a five-minute sneak peek. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Falling Skies stars Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy, Will Patton, and Maxin Knight as a group of survivors following a deadly alien invasion. The series premieres on TNT on Sunday, June 19th at 9/8c. Hit the jump to check out the footage.

Here is the five-minute sneak peek of Falling Skies [thanks to io9 for the heads up]:

Here's the synopsis for the series:

FALLING SKIES opens in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. The few remaining survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers engage in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force, whose nature and purpose remains a mystery. FALLING SKIES is a tale of endurance, commitment and courage in which everyday people are called upon to become heroes. The survivors may be outmatched, outnumbered and outgunned, but nothing can beat the human spirit. The series combines stunning visual effects and personal human stories about triumph and survival in the most devastating circumstances.

We just got an extended look at the anticipated TNT sci-fi drama Falling Skies from Steven Spielberg by way of a new featurette/trailer, and today the marketing machine keeps on running. Three brand new promo posters have just cropped up with some pretty cool imagery. One is reminiscent of one of the posters for District 9, another has a strange glowing spine, but my favorite has a great contrasting image of a child's paper airplane with the invading alien ships and an ominous tagline.

Check out these cool posters and the series synopsis after the jump.
