First Look at Paul Walker’s Brothers Caleb and Cody on the Set of FAST & FURIOUS 7

Last week, we reported that Fast & Furious 7 had brought on Paul Walker‘s brothers Caleb and Cody to help finish the production.  The specifics of how they’ll help the production haven’t been revealed, but presumably they’ll be working as body doubles.  There may be other ways the production tries to fill in Walker’s role whether it’s through CGI and/or re-writes, but at the very least, hiring Walker’s brothers is a sign of respect.  It also helps that they look a lot like him.  Vin Diesel posted a set photo on his Facebook page, and while I’m not sure which one is Caleb and which is Cody, the brother on the right bears such a strong resemblance that they might even be able to pull off close-ups.

It’s odd to think that a Fast & Furious movie will be so heavily scrutinized right down to how it’s trying to manage Paul Walker’s unfinished scenes.  We go to these movies for dumb fun, but there will be a pall over the finished film as it tries to find the balance between big, brash action and deep respect for its deceased star.  Check out the set photo after the jump.  Fast & Furious 7 opens April 10, 2015.

Paul Walker’s Brothers Caleb and Cody to Help the Production of FAST & FURIOUS 7

Earlier this month, production resumed on Fast & Furious 7.  Filming had halted following the death of Paul Walker last November, and while it’s still not exactly clear how the production will handle the actor’s remaining scenes or even the overall story, they’ve announced that they’ve enlisted the help of Walker’s brothers Caleb and Cody.  It was rumored that Cody might step in and work on some of Paul’s remaining scenes, and while the announcement doesn’t specify how Walker’s brothers will be assisting the production, I assume they’ll be working as body doubles and handling wide shots where they’ll resemble Paul at a distance.  While the production could have just hired anyone who matched Walker’s height and build, I think this is a more respectful route, and one that will probably result in a better film since there’s a personal connection as opposed to a stranger stepping in.

Steve is currently at CinemaCon, which is where studios peddle their upcoming films to theaters.  Part of this involves bringing the talent in to talk about those films, and Dwayne Johnson was on hand to promote his upcoming movie, Hercules.  During an extended group interview, Johnson also touched on some of his other projects.  Johnson talked about the pain he felt over the death of Fast & Furious co-star Paul Walker, the sorrow he felt for Walker’s family, and trying to honor his legacy in Fast & Furious 7.

Moving to a happier topic, Johnson also spoke about re-teaming with Brad Peyton for the earthquake movie San Andreas, learning about earthquakes, his excitement for the material, doing the movie in 3D, and more.  Hit the jump for Dwayne Johnson’s quotes on Fast & Furious 7, which has resumed filming, and San Andreas, which begins filming in two weeks in Australia.

After putting the production on hold last November following the death of Paul Walker, filming on Fast & Furious 7 will resume in April.  According to THR, production of the movie will resume “on or near April 1,” which is a little over a year until the movie’s release date.  Sources say there are about six to eight weeks left to film, and the production will move back to Atlanta, which is where filming was originally set to resume after Thanksgiving.  As we previously reported, Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, won’t be killed off, but retired ““in a way that the studio hopes will satisfy fans of the franchise and make use of the exciting footage of Walker.”

Fast & Furious 7 will open on April 10, 2015 and stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa, Tyrese Gibson, Kurt Russell, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Djimon Hounsou, Lucas Black, and John Brotherton.

Kurt Russell Talks Future Projects, Resuming Filming on FAST & FURIOUS 7 in April, Mourning Paul Walker, and More

Currently available on VOD and in theaters on March 14th, The Art of the Steal tells the story of Crunch Calhoun (Kurt Russell) a motorcycle daredevil and art thief who agrees to pull off one final lucrative art theft with his untrustworthy brother, Nicky (Matt Dillon), which will, of course, lead to nothing but trouble for everyone involved.

Collider was invited to sit down with actor Kurt Russell to talk to him about that film and, during the interview (that we will run more of closer to the film’s theatrical release), conversation turned to what he’ll be doing next, the passion he has for making wine, and when he expects to return to finish his work on Fast & Furious 7.  He talked about how he’s got both a heavy film with director Mark Pellington, called Clang, and the Western Bone Tomahawk, that he’s hoping to get into production, how making wine is very similar to making a movie, and that he thinks filming for Fast & Furious 7 will resume in April, even though he does not yet know how they’ll be handling the loss of Paul Walker.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Vin Diesel Shares Image from Last Scene He Filmed with Paul Walker on FAST & FURIOUS 7; Release Date Moved to April 10, 2015

We still don’t know how Universal and director James Wan will proceed with Fast & Furious 7 following Paul Walker‘s death.  There’s the possibility of a January restart date and a rumor about having Cody Walker step in to film his brother’s remaining scenes.  Whichever way the production chooses to move forward, Universal has officially given up its original July 11, 2014 release dateVin Diesel has announced on his Facebook page that the movie will now open on April 10, 2015.  While I’m sure Fast & Furious fans will be disappointed by the delay, I’m sure they’ll also understand that moving the date back is the wisest course of action.  It’s currently an easy weekend with Insidious 3 currently being the only competition (we’ll set aside that 2015 somehow became even crazier in terms of blockbusters).  There’s too much goodwill towards the Fast & Furious franchise, and fans want to see Walker’s final performance (assuming Universal will keep him in the movie).

In addition to announcing the release date, Diesel also posted a photo of the last scene he filmed with Walker along with a personal message.  You can check out the image after the jump.

FAST & FURIOUS 7 Writer Might Try to Work in Scenes Shot Before Paul Walker’s Death; January Restart Date a Possibility

Universal continues to inch forward on how to proceed on Fast & Furious 7 following the death of Paul Walker.  As we previously reported, Walker was only halfway finished with filming, and had yet to shoot some of his biggest scenes.  According to THR, screenwriter Chris Morgan is revising the script, and he might work in scenes Walker had already shot.  It’s an encouraging sign that the studio and director James Wan want to find some way to a satisfying good-bye for Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, rather than cut him out of the film entirely.  If Morgan is about to weave in the material Walker shot before his death, then the delayed production might be able to resume by January.

Paul Walker Talks HOURS, the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the FAST & FURIOUS Franchise, Working for James Wan, and Much More

Back on November 14th, I went to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel to speak to actor Paul Walker at the press day for his upcoming film Hours, an indie drama about a father who struggles to keep his newborn daughter alive in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  What most struck me about the nearly 45 minutes I spent chatting with him for our interview was that he was a reluctant movie star who placed importance on following his heart and doing things with merit and significance, fully appreciating the opportunities that he clearly felt like he really just fell into.  It was one of the best interview experiences I’ve ever had, and he was one of the most gracious and honest people I’ve ever spoken to.

After sharing stories about what it was like to have been born and raised in the San Fernando Valley (he even asked me what hospital I was born in), the conversation got even more personal, with him telling me that being a good father was the most important thing to him, now that his 15-year-old daughter was living full-time with him, and how hard it was to find a good school that she could go to where she could make good friends. And he also told me about all of the physical injuries that he’s gotten, over the years, and all of the physical therapy that he’s had to do, as a result.  It’s a really introspective, insightful interview that I think is worth checking out, if you want a glimpse into the kind of guy he was.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Production on FAST & FURIOUS 7 Delayed Following Paul Walker’s Death

Filming on Fast & Furious 7 was halfway finished when Paul Walker died last night in a car crash.  The actor, who starred in all but one of the Fast & Furious movies, had not completed his work on the upcoming sequel.   Naturally, production has been delayed not only to give Walker’s friends, family, and co-workers time to grieve.  However, the production is delayed indefinitely as Universal Studios, the producers, and director James Wan try to figure out how to proceed without one of the movie’s lead actors.  According to The Wrap, shooting, which included scenes with Walker, was scheduled to resume this week in Atlanta following the holiday break.  The production was then scheduled to go to Abu Dhabi to continue filming.  That plan now seems highly unlikely as are any plans regarding the future of Fast & Furious 7.

Last week, Collider was invited to sit down with Paul Walker for a lengthy interview, to discuss his remarkable work in the dramatic thriller Hours, about a father (played by Walker) who struggles to keep his infant daughter alive in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.  While we will run the portion of the interview where he talked about that film and his experience making it, closer to its December 13th theatrical release, we did want to share what he had to say about Fast & Furious 7.

Due out in the summer of 2014, Fast & Furious 7 has a new director in James Wan (The Conjuring), which not only made Walker nervous, but made him question whether to actually return for another film, at all.  During this exclusive interview with Collider, he talked about what sold him on James Wan, as a director, what he was like to work with on set, how what he’s doing with the film has a definite look that’s all his own, and how the entire cast embraced him.  He also talked about how the studio is hoping for a Fast & Furious 8, 9 and 10, but that there will definitely at least be an eighth film.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Nowadays the marketing campaigns for films begin in the midst of production.  With the advent of Twitter and Instagram, many filmmakers and actors have made a habit of sharing teaser images with fans while production is ongoing.  One such property taking advantage of social media is Fast & Furious 7, as we’ve already seen a number of behind-the-scenes images from the set of director James Wan’s action sequel, and now Dwayne Johnson is adding a couple more to the pile.  Johnson has been teasing his return as Hobbs on Twitter, and he recently shared two images from the Fast 7 set—one of Hobbs looking mighty intimidating on an abandoned street, and another promising a fight sequence between Johnson’s character and Jason Statham’s villain.

Vin Diesel continues to roll out photos from the set of Fast & Furious 7.  After yesterday’s photo featuring Jason Statham, Diesel has now provided an image with Dwayne Johnson, who plays the badass Hobbs.  I’m interested to see where Hobbes goes in the sequel considering his betrayal in Fast & Furious 6.  A friend of mine pointed out that Hobbs never would have done that, but he did and now the character will have to face those consequences.

First Images of Dwayne Johnson in FAST & FURIOUS 7 and HERCULES

Dwayne Johnson‘s movies seem to do well when he’s part of an ensemble (Fast & Furious movies, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and less well when it’s all on him (Snitch, Faster).  Either way, he’s still a charismatic presence, and we’ll see him in both kinds of films next year with James Wan‘s Fast & Furious 7 and Brett Ratner‘s Hercules.  Plot details on Fast 7 are being kept under wraps beyond the gang squaring off against a new villain played by Jason Statham.  As for Hercules, the movie is billed as “a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist.”  Johnson has been tweeting out set photos from Hercules, but now he’s given us our first good look at him in the movie.  Also, as a sweetener, he’s tweeted out the first image of Hobbes in Fast 7.  Or maybe I have them mixed up and both films are going in wildly unexpected directions.

Earlier this week, Vin Diesel shared the first image from Fast & Furious 7 via his Facebook page.  It wasn’t an image of the fast cars and explosions fans want from the movie.  It was Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Paul Walker) lost in thought.  Those deep thoughts continue in another image Diesel has deemed fit to share with his fans.  Diesel, his Facebook comment weighted with the wisdom of man who has loved and lost, tells his millions of fans, “The first week of filming, has been both intense and surreal…P.s. One from set… a more somber moment in Our Saga…”  If I had to guess, I would say this is a funeral scene for Han (Sung Kang), who was killed at the end of Fast & Furious 6 by a new villain played by Jason Statham.

Hit the jump to check out the image, and we’ll be sure to keep an eye on the intense, emotional drama Diesel will share through these images.  The film also stars Lucas Black, Tony Jaa, Djimon Hounsou, and Kurt RussellFast & Furious 7 opens July 11, 2014.
