Kurt Russell Talks Future Projects, Resuming Filming on FAST & FURIOUS 7 in April, Mourning Paul Walker, and More

Currently available on VOD and in theaters on March 14th, The Art of the Steal tells the story of Crunch Calhoun (Kurt Russell) a motorcycle daredevil and art thief who agrees to pull off one final lucrative art theft with his untrustworthy brother, Nicky (Matt Dillon), which will, of course, lead to nothing but trouble for everyone involved.

Collider was invited to sit down with actor Kurt Russell to talk to him about that film and, during the interview (that we will run more of closer to the film’s theatrical release), conversation turned to what he’ll be doing next, the passion he has for making wine, and when he expects to return to finish his work on Fast & Furious 7.  He talked about how he’s got both a heavy film with director Mark Pellington, called Clang, and the Western Bone Tomahawk, that he’s hoping to get into production, how making wine is very similar to making a movie, and that he thinks filming for Fast & Furious 7 will resume in April, even though he does not yet know how they’ll be handling the loss of Paul Walker.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

We’re well over a year away from seeing the next installment in the Fast & Furious franchise, but star Vin Diesel recently tweeted out an early teaser poster for the film.  Most of the press for the film has been concerned with the death of co-star Paul Walker and how the film’s production would handle that moving forward.  In addition to today’s poster, Diesel recently shared an image from filming that featured him alongside Walker on set.

FAST & FURIOUS 7 Rumor: Paul Walker’s Brother Cody to Step in and Film Final Scenes

I hate reporting on news stories peripherally related to actor Paul Walker’s tragic death as much as the next guy, but when it comes to the logistics of how James Wan and the cast of Fast & Furious 7 will move forward with production, we’ll make an exception.  About a week ago, we reported that Universal had indefinitely suspended production on the film, along with the news that Walker had only filmed about half of his allotted scenes and had yet to film some of the major ones.  Then, it looked like screenwriter Chris Morgan was revising the script to work around Walker’s death.  Now, a new rumor states that Walker’s younger brother, Cody, will step in to film the final scenes.  Hit the jump for more.

FAST & FURIOUS 7 Scene Revealed on FAST & FURIOUS 6 Blu-ray

Although James Wan’s Fast & Furious 7 doesn’t open until July 11, 2014, you can get a sneak peek at a new scene by picking up Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6 Extended Edition on Blu-ray.  The special features section offers a look at a scene in the upcoming film, but we’ve kept the details of it after the jump since they’re rather spoilery.  The ending of Fast & Furious 6 was revelatory for a couple of reasons: for one thing, it showed that the order of preceding movies in the franchise were not necessarily in chronological order, and for another, it revealed at least one villain who would be appearing in Fast & Furious 7.  An explanation behind all of this vague rambling can be found after the jump.

Jason Statham and Izabela Vidovic Talk HOMEFRONT, the Action Scenes, the Script by Sylvester Stallone, THE EXPENDABLES 3, FAST & FURIOUS 7, and More

Jason-Statham-Izabela-Vidovic-Homefront-interview-slice

Opening this week is the Jason Statham-starrer Homefront.   Adapted by Sylvester Stallone from the Chuck Logan novel, Homefront centers on DEA agent Phil Broker (Statham) who moves to a quiet town with his daughter (Izabela Vidovic) in order to start a new life, but winds up tangling with the local druglord (James Franco), his band of thugs, and meth’d-out sister (played by Kate Bosworth in a bit of a shocking turn).  Homefront also stars Winona Ryder, Rachelle Lafevre, Clancy Brown, Omar Benson Miller and Frank Grillo.  For more on the film, watch the red-band or regular trailer.

At the recent Los Angeles press day, I landed a video interview with Statham and Vidovic.   They talked about doing the action scenes, rehearsals, playing a father and daughter, just how many Statham movies Izabela had seen before filming Homefront, and more.  In addition, Statham talked about the script by Stallone, how the film attracted great actors to the supporting roles, and The Expendables 3 and Fast & Furious 7.  Hit the jump to watch.

Vin Diesel Shares New Set Photo from FAST & FURIOUS 7 Featuring Dwayne Johnson

Vin Diesel continues to roll out photos from the set of Fast & Furious 7.  After yesterday’s photo featuring Jason Statham, Diesel has now provided an image with Dwayne Johnson, who plays the badass Hobbs.  I’m interested to see where Hobbes goes in the sequel considering his betrayal in Fast & Furious 6.  A friend of mine pointed out that Hobbs never would have done that, but he did and now the character will have to face those consequences.

Vin Diesel Shows off Fast & Furious 7 Fight Training Video with Tony Jaa

Vin Diesel, in a celebration of his Facebook page getting 50 million likes (which he calls “Our Page” so really it should be “Vin Diesel n’ Friends”), he decided to reward his fans with some video of his Fast & Furious 7 fight training with Tony Jaa (Ong-bak).  If you can get past the unintentionally hilarious editing, there’s some pretty cool stuff here from Jaa, who proves that he could kick a ten-foot tall person in the face.  Also, if there’s a scene where Jaa and Diesel need to hold themselves up horizontally, they’re physically able to do that.

Hit the jump to check out the video.  The film also stars Paul Walker, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Kurt Russell, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Djimon Hounsou, Lucas Black, and John BrothertonFast & Furious 7 opens July 11, 2014.

Director James Wan Shows off the Villain’s Sweet Ride from FAST & FURIOUS 7

The stinger during the credits of Fast & Furious 6 revealed Jason Statham would play the villain of the next movie.  Naturally, a Fast & Furious villain needs a cool car, although it would be kind of fun if Statham’s character refused to use a vehicle, and the heroes were absolutely stymied by this fact.  But a confident British actor like Statham needs a sweet ride, and he’s got one of the sweetest.  A new set photo from director James Wan reveals that the villain will be cruising around in an Aston Martin.  Will it come with all the bells and whistles we’ve come to expect from James Bond’s Aston Martins?  I hope so.

First Look at the Cars of FAST & FURIOUS 7

Vin Diesel isn’t the only one who can share stuff from the set of Fast & Furious 7Ludacris recently used Instagram’s new recording feature to show off a brief video of some of the cars we’ll be seeing in the upcoming sequel.  Unsurprisingly, they’re gorgeous.  But now we’re at the seventh movie, and we need a change of pace.  Sure, Hummers and souped up cars are all well and good, but what about the crap vehicles?  What about a Ford Pinto?  Don’t tell me it wouldn’t be entertaining to see Diesel racing around in a car that is basically primed to explode if he so much as dings it.

More Vin Diesel Brooding in New Image from FAST & FURIOUS 7

by     Posted 1 year, 64 days ago

fast-furious-7-vin-diesel-slice

Earlier this week, Vin Diesel shared the first image from Fast & Furious 7 via his Facebook page.  It wasn’t an image of the fast cars and explosions fans want from the movie.  It was Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Paul Walker) lost in thought.  Those deep thoughts continue in another image Diesel has deemed fit to share with his fans.  Diesel, his Facebook comment weighted with the wisdom of man who has loved and lost, tells his millions of fans, “The first week of filming, has been both intense and surreal…P.s. One from set… a more somber moment in Our Saga…”  If I had to guess, I would say this is a funeral scene for Han (Sung Kang), who was killed at the end of Fast & Furious 6 by a new villain played by Jason Statham.

Hit the jump to check out the image, and we’ll be sure to keep an eye on the intense, emotional drama Diesel will share through these images.  The film also stars Lucas Black, Tony Jaa, Djimon Hounsou, and Kurt RussellFast & Furious 7 opens July 11, 2014.

Lucas Black Returns for FAST & FURIOUS 7, 8 and 9

Fast & Furious franchise fans will be happy to hear that Lucas Black will return to the fold in James Wan’s Fast & Furious 7.  Appearing only in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Black will make up for his absence by not only starring in the upcoming feature, but the next two after that.  Black’s drift-racing character, Sean Boswell, will become a series regular for at least the next film trilogy.  For those of you who have been paying attention throughout the entire franchise, you’ll understand why it makes sense to add Black/Boswell back in now.  If you need a refresher, hit the jump.

Opening in theaters this weekend is James Wan’s Insidious: Chapter 2.  The follow-up to the 2011 surprise hit picks up exactly where the first left off with the Lambert family thrust into a world of psychics, demons and ghosts.  Insidious put an entirely original spin on the haunted house subgenre with its unique third act, and Chapter 2 digs deeper into that universe traveling further into the, well, Further and answering any last lingering fan questions.  Insidious: Chapter 2 stars Patrick WilsonRose ByrneBarbara HersheyLin ShayeLeigh WhannellAngus Sampson, and Ty Simpkins.

A few weeks ago at a Los Angeles press day I sat down for an exclusive interview with Wan. He talked about gaining confidence as a filmmaker, why he wanted to make an Insidious sequel, taking a break from the horror genre, his approach to Fast & Furious 7, future plans with Leigh Whannell and the genre he most wants to do next.
