While at Comic-Con for a presentation in Hall H, actress Milla Jovovich spoke with the press about the fifth installment in the popular Resident Evil franchise. In Resident Evil: Retribution, which resurrects Michelle Rodriguez’s character from the first film, Alice (Jovovich) fights alongside a resistance movement in the continuing battle against the Umbrella Corporation and the undead. During the interview, Rodriguez talked about how cool it is to be a part of the franchise again, that her reappearance is explained early on and in a plausible way, the film’s cool fight scenes, how she’s also returning to the Fast and Furious franchise, doing a voice for the next Modern Warfare video game, and what superhero character she’d like to play. Check out what she had to say after the jump.
The first official image from Fast Five has been released. The flick is the fifth in the Fast and Furious franchise and brings Dwayne Johnson into the mix. An article about the movie in USA Today says Johnson’s character, Hobbs, is “a cop on the trail of street racers Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson and the familiar crew of the Furious franchise.” Hobbs is busy tracking down Dom Toretto (Diesel) and ex-cop Brian O’Conner (Walker) who were on the lam at the end of the last movie. And he’ll be doing that tracking in a Gurkha, “a 10-ton armored military vehicle that looks like a Humvee on steroids.” So I assume that means it goes about ten feet to the gallon.

Fast Five also stars Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Joaquim de Almeida, Elsa Pataky and Matt Schulze. The film is set to open on April 29, 2011. While some of you might have thought I was done with “Seven Days with Producer Neal Moritz,” trust me, I’m just getting warmed up. Last week I posted what he said about R.I.P.D., Fast and the Furious 5/6 and his remake of Highlander, and tonight’s it’s an update on Shane Black’s Doc Savage, his remake of Total Recall, and what’s up with Flash Gordon.
The quick update is he’s waiting on scripts for all three projects but says he’s about to get Doc Savage and Total Recall. He went on to say that Shane Black did some work on the Battle: Los Angeles script and while he’s tried to attach him to many projects, it was his love for Doc Savage that finally reeled him in.
And regarding the remake of Total Recall, Moritz said Kurt Wimmer is writing the script and it’s going to be closer to the Philip K. Dick story, We Can Remember It for You Wholesale, than a remake of the Schwarzenegger movie. He also says they’re not going to Mars but I forgot to ask if Quato is in the movie. I hope he is. Hit the jump for his exact quotes:
Fast and the Furious 5 is going to be called Fast Five and according to Vin Diesel, at least part of the film is going to take place in Brazil. The reason we know the location….Vin Diesel posted an update on his Facebook page tonight. He wrote:
Had a meeting with Justin Lin today regarding the Fast saga… some daring but fascinating thoughts in terms of action set pieces… and relationships, old and new. The team is on their way to Brazil this evening, to scout, and to see what selection of cars there are.
While some might wonder why a 5th film is going to get made, I can give you $343 million reasons. That’s the amount the last sequel pulled in at the worldwide box office, and with a reported budget of $100 million, it was a very profitable movie. With Justin Lin location scouting in Brazil, I’d imagine they’ll be shooting in the next few months. Expect updates as we get them. Fast Five is scheduled to be released June 10, 2011.
