Although James Wan’s Fast & Furious 7 doesn’t open until July 11, 2014, you can get a sneak peek at a new scene by picking up Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6 Extended Edition on Blu-ray.  The special features section offers a look at a scene in the upcoming film, but we’ve kept the details of it after the jump since they’re rather spoilery.  The ending of Fast & Furious 6 was revelatory for a couple of reasons: for one thing, it showed that the order of preceding movies in the franchise were not necessarily in chronological order, and for another, it revealed at least one villain who would be appearing in Fast & Furious 7.  An explanation behind all of this vague rambling can be found after the jump.

Universal Pictures has released a final trailer for Fast Five director Justin Lin’s sequel Fast & Furious 6, and it’s chock-full of summer blockbuster goodness. 9 New Behind-the-Scenes Images from FAST & FURIOUS 6

fast and the furious 6 behind the scenes

With less than two months until its May 24, 2013 release on Memorial Day weekend, nine new high-resolution images from the upcoming Fast & Furious 6 were just revealed.  Director Justin Lin used this set of photos primarily to showcase the film’s cars, not to mention a few more shots of cast members.  One theme in both batches of released photos is what appears to be a high-speed chase involving a tank that has some sort of rigging built on the front.  Given the intensity of Fast Five’s stunts, which included an incredible train heist scenario, one can only wonder what Lin has up his sleeve with this tank scene. Additionally, riding on the success of its predecessor, Fast & Furious 6 will also have a broader action plot revolving more around heists and car chase sequences than around a street racing subculture.

For a look at the new pictures, shift to the jump.  Fast & Furious boasts a stacked action ensemble of Vin DieselPaul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Joe TaslimSung Kang, Gina Carano, and Luke Evans.

FAST & FURIOUS 6 Set for IMAX Release

Director Justin Lin’s upcoming sixth film in the Fast & Furious franchise is getting the IMAX treatment.  IMAX and Universal Pictures announced today that Fast & Furious 6 will be released in both traditional and IMAX theaters when it opens worldwide on May 22nd.  It’s unknown if this means that the film will be opening two days earlier in domestic IMAX theaters now, or if fans in the U.S. will have to wait until the previously announced release date of Friday, May 24th to check the pic out.

If the scope of Lin’s Fast Five is any indication of how things will play out onscreen in FF6, IMAX seems a swell fit to showcase the filmmaker’s ambitious action sequences.  We’ve already gotten a peek at a stunt in which a car drives straight through the nose of a plane in the Fast & Furious 6 trailer, so I can only imagine what other sorts of nuttiness awaits fans in the rest of the film.

A new featurette for Universal’s Fast & Furious 6 has gone online today.  The three minute video consists of the cast talking about their experiences with the film, the stunts, and their co-stars.  The featurette also showcases snippets of behind the scenes footage and various action moments already seen in the film’s trailer, including the impressive sequence of Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, and company pulling down a commercial sized airliner with only a cable and four wheels.  With a large and genial cast (including a lot of returning stars), impressive set pieces, and a prime summer release date, director Justin Lin looks to be delivering a worthy addition to a sometimes tired franchise.

The film also stars Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Joe Taslim, and Luke EvansFast & Furious 6 opens May 24th.  Hit the jump to watch the featurette.

Opening this week is Ric Roman Waugh’s new thriller Snitch, based on the true story of a man (played by Dwayne Johnson) whose son is wrongly accused of dealing drugs and is facing decades behind bars under the mandatory minimum sentencing laws.  Johnson strikes a deal—he will help lead to an arrest if his son can go free.  He soon finds himself caught up in a massive undercover mission that could lead to the arrest of a Mexican Cartel drug lord—but at a potentially deadly cost.  The film also stars Jon Bernthal, Barry Pepper, Benjamin Bratt, Rafi Gavron, and Michael K. Williams.

Recently I was able to speak to Mr. Johnson about the film Snitch in an exclusive interview.  As it turns out, he’s a big Collider fan, with a sweet spot for Steve!  He also told me about signing on to do the film and connecting with his character as a father who would also do anything for his kids.  I also got some details about Fast and Furious 6, and the scoop on upcoming films Pain and Gain, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and his passion project Hercules.  Click after the jump to see the whole interview.

A new theatrical trailer for Fast & Furious 6 has been released online.  Though the supervillain for Fast & Furious 7 may have already been spoiled, we still have director Justin Lin’s eminent sequel to look forward to in the immediate future.  The film moves the action of the franchise across the pond to Europe, where Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is trying to stop a group of mercenary drivers led by an unnamed mastermind (Luke Evans) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez).  Hobbs recruits Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew to help bring down the criminal outfit, and in exchange will provide pardons for the Rio heist.  This trailer is essentially a shorter, edited version of the first full trailer, but it’s still a fun watch if only for the reminder that we’ll be seeing a car explode out the front of a plane in the film.

Major Star Rumored for Supervillain Role in FAST & FURIOUS 7

fast-furious-6-slice

When we first got a look at director Justin Lin’s upcoming sequel Fast & Furious 6 by way of a brief Super Bowl spot, it was clear that the follow-up was going to be quite massive in scale.  The film’s full trailer confirmed this fact, as fans were teased with everything from a ginormous ensemble cast to a car literally exploding out the tip of an airplane.  Lin’s Fast Five was an immensely entertaining actioner on a large scale, and it appears that he’s upped the ante even more for the Europe-set sequel.

When Fast & Furious 6 was first announced as being in development, there were rumors that Lin would be shooting both Fast 6 and Fast 7 back-to-back, but he ultimately decided to only focus on the immediate sequel.  That said, it’s clear that the an overall story arc is planned to play out over the next few films, and a solid rumor has now popped up that claims that a major action star will make a brief appearance at the end if 6 before playing the supervillain in Fast 7.  Hit the jump to read on, but beware there are MASSIVE SPOILERS for Fast & Furious 6 below.  I cannot stress this enough, do not click on if you don’t want to know how Fast 6 ends.
