Over the last several months, we’ve been getting glimpses of Bong Joon-ho‘s upcoming sci-fi film, Snowpiercer. Today, the first footage has been released via an international behind-the-scenes featurette. The story is set in a new ice age caused by a failed experiment to stop global warming that killed virtually all life on the planet. The sole survivors live on a train called Snowpiercer—powered by a perpetual machine—who struggle with the class system implemented on the train. The featurette is dubbed in Korean (or at least I assume it’s Korean since Joon-ho is South Korean), but you can still see that there’s going to be some action involved, especially on the part of an axe-wielding Chris Evans.

A new featurette for the Shane Black-directed sequel Iron Man 3 has been released online. Its primary focus is to explain Extremis, the technology used by Ben Kingsley’s The Mandarin to pull off his terrorist tactics and inflict chaos in the world of Tony Stark. Black and producer Kevin Feige explain the basics of Extremis and how it works in the human body to generate a new breed of unstoppable human beings. We also get a bit of insight from James Badge Dale on why this new technology appealed to him in relation to his character. Robert Downey Jr. seems particularly amused by the concept, citing it as one of the things he’s most excited about in the film.
Hit the jump to watch the new featurette. If you missed the first two clips, you can check them out here and here. The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Hall, and Jon Favreau. Iron Man 3 opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on May 3rd.
Universal Pictures has released a new featurette for director Justin Lin’s upcoming sequel Fast & Furious 6, and it features a whole lot of new footage from the film. The follow-up to 2011’s Fast Five moves the action to Europe, where Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is trying to stop a group of mercenary drivers led by an unnamed mastermind (Luke Evans) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). Hobbs recruits Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew to help bring down the criminal outfit, and in exchange will provide pardons for the Rio heist. This featurette has basically the entire cast and Lin discussing the story of the sixth installment in the franchise, and we’re treated to a host of new footage that highlights some seriously intense action/racing/fighting sequences.

Marvel has released a new featurette for director Shane Black’s sequel Iron Man 3, and this one focuses on the film’s large cast of characters. In addition to a fair amount of new footage, we get to see nearly the entire cast (including Jon Favreau) discuss their characters and how the film stacks up against the first two Iron Man pics. Naturally everyone has great things to say about the film, but Ben Kingsley appears genuinely enthused about tackling The Mandarin and Robert Downey Jr. claims that it’s the most emotionally satisfying and entertaining Iron Man film yet.

Sony Pictures Animation has released a new featurette for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. The plot revolves around Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) returning to Swallow Falls to clean up the mess created by the FLDSMDFR, only to find that food is now taking on the form of mutant beasts. In the featurette, Terry Crews, who has replaced Mr. T as the voice of Earl Devereaux, shows us some more of the strange pun-christened leftovers that inhabit Swallow Falls. I’m not sure if the puns will be carrying the whole marketing campaign, but they’re working for now. Of course, everything works better when you add Terry Crews.
Hit the jump to check out the featurette. The film also features the voices of Andy Samberg, Benjamin Bratt, and Neil Patrick Harris. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 opens in 3D on September 27th.
Disneynature has released a new featurette that offer a first look at footage from the studio’s next film, Bears. The first half of the featurette focuses on the studio’s previous nature-centric documentaries and how they’ve been committed to making a meaningful difference in the world, but the second half previews their 2014 release Bears. Directed by Keith Scholey (African Cats) and Alastair Fothergill (Chimpanzee), the film “cozies up to the brown bears who call Alaska’s stunning coastal mountains and shores their home, revealing through tender moments and entertaining imagery how these animals are far from grizzly creatures.” The pic promises to be a fascinating look into this gorgeous world, and I look forward to seeing what kind of footage the Disneynature crew has amassed over their extended period of time in Alaska.
Hit the jump to take a look at the featurette as well as a couple of new images from the film. Bears opens on April 18, 2014.
Robert Rodriguez is partnering with Blackberry for Project Green Screen to collaborate with his fans on the short film Two Scoops. There are a few scenes left unfinished in Two Scoops, and Rodriguez wants your help: “I’d like you guys to use your creativity and imagination to help complete them.” Rodriguez and the crew at Troublemaker Studios will sort through crowdsourced footage and images to insert the best submissions into the final product using green screen.
Electra and Elise Avellan star as: “Ice cream scoopers by day. Danger seekers by night.” Check out a featurette that lets Rodriguez explain the inspiration behind Project Green Screen after the jump.
The first footage from the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Under the Dome has been released. As probably the most anticipated new show coming out this summer, the first look includes scenes from the episodes as well as some behind-the-scenes interviews with King, the creative team, and several of the actors. Not too much has been revealed about the adaptation, but from what could be gathered during their WonderCon panel and this first look, it looks like this could very well be a riveting, suspenseful, and imaginative interpretation of the novel.
King himself has been very involved, but also vocal about his support for the show to deviate from the novel and explore other avenues with the characters and the story. With Brian K. Vaughan (Lost) at the helm of the show and a talented cast that includes Rachelle Lefevre, Mike Vogel, Dean Norris, Britt Robertson, and Keith Harris, I’m expecting a solid and gripping thirteen episodes. The series will premiere sometime in June. Hit the jump for the first look.
Universal has unveiled a bounty of goodies from director Joseph Kosinski’s upcoming sci-fi pic Oblivion. The featurettes focus on Kosinski’s desire to do as many of the film’s visual effects in camera as possible, and it’s absolutely fascinating to see how he pulled off some of these tricks. For scenes in the film’s skytower, instead of using a blue screen to fill out the sky background, Kosinski actually projected footage of the real sky (which he shot in Maui) 360 degrees around the set, so everything the audience sees in the background is practical. The other featurette focuses on the creation of the pic’s “bubble ship,” and it’s another interesting look into Kosinski’s strong flair for design.

With the season premiere of Game of Thrones less than a week away, HBO has continued their marketing onslaught by releasing a new promo and a new featurette. The promo once again reminds us that the dragons are going to be a big factor in the new season, and as for the featurette, I highly encourage you to watch it. It goes into detail about creating the world of the Wildlings, and the amount of effort and detail that makes the world come alive. You probably won’t notice these details when watching the show, but subconsciously they make the world believable. This is the case for all of the settings on the series, but showing the technical work in creating the life beyond The Wall is a fine example of how the show’s technical departments work their magic. The featurette also devotes time to new character Mance Rayder (played by the great Ciaran Hinds).
Hit the jump to check out the promo and the featurette. Also, be sure to check out Allison’s recap of Season Two. Game of Thrones premieres on March 31st at 9/8c.
Paramount has released a new four-minute extended clip and featurette for Jon M. Chu’s upcoming sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The clip showcases the an action sequence with a shit ton of ninjas that takes place on the side of a mountain, while the featurette focuses on the numerous vehicles and weapons that are used in the film. The sequel’s story finds the Joes disbanded and outnumbered as they must square off against not only the Cobras, but also threats within their own government.

The film opens on April 19th.
- Olympus Has Fallen – A new featurette for director Antoine Fuqua’s (Training Day) White House actioner also features a good amount of new footage from the film with Fuqua and the cast (Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, and Rick Yune) talking about the pic’s heavy action factor. Fresh off yesterday’s unveiling of a magnificent poster for the upcoming sixth season of the drama series Mad Men, AMC has now released a new featurette for the show. Though there’s no new footage to scrutinize, we do get to see castmembers Jon Hamm, Jessica Pare, and Rich Sommer talk about what fans can expect from the new season alongside creator/showrunner/mastermind Matthew Weiner. With season seven poised to be the show’s last, Hamm describes the upcoming season as “like getting almost to the end of a great book.” Weiner teases a central focus on Don for season six, saying the new episodes will give viewers “a lot of insight into Don, a new dynamic, and people striving to grow up.” Also, Sommer is rocking some serious late 60s/early 70s sideburns. This show cannot come back fast enough.
Hit the jump to watch the new featurette. The two-hour season six premiere of Mad Men airs on AMC on Sunday, April 7th.
A new featurette for Universal’s Fast & Furious 6 has gone online today. The three minute video consists of the cast talking about their experiences with the film, the stunts, and their co-stars. The featurette also showcases snippets of behind the scenes footage and various action moments already seen in the film’s trailer, including the impressive sequence of Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, and company pulling down a commercial sized airliner with only a cable and four wheels. With a large and genial cast (including a lot of returning stars), impressive set pieces, and a prime summer release date, director Justin Lin looks to be delivering a worthy addition to a sometimes tired franchise.
The film also stars Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Joe Taslim, and Luke Evans. Fast & Furious 6 opens May 24th. Hit the jump to watch the featurette.
One of the best television shows in history will sadly come to an end this summer as Breaking Bad wraps up its final season on AMC. The network has released a new featurette for the last batch of 8 episodes that takes fans behind-the-scenes of the show, and it’s a total tease. The video doesn’t reveal anything at all about the final run of episodes (which is a good thing), but we do see the castmembers talking quite cryptically about what’s to come. The fifth season was split up into two batches of eight episodes, so I assume this upcoming run plays like the final half of one season rather than an entire new season.
Though we don’t know much plot-wise about the final episodes, we do know that Bryan Cranston directs the first episode back, Looper director Rian Johnson thankfully returns to helm another installment, and creator/showrunner Vince Gilligan wrote and directs the series finale. Hit the jump to watch the featurette. Breaking Bad is expected to return sometime in July, so hold on to your butts, folks.
