The Olympus Has Fallen sequel now has a director.  THR reports that Charlie Countryman director Fredrik Bond is in negotiations to helm the follow-up London Has Fallen, taking over for Antoine Fuqua who directed the first film.  Gerard Butler reprises his role as a U.S. Secret Service agent with a penchant for stabbing people in the head, as he accompanies the U.S. President (Aaron Eckhart) and Speaker of the House (Morgan Freeman) while attending the funeral of the British prime minister.  Obviously, things don’t go as planned, and Butler’s character must once again stab more people in the head save the day.  Christian Gedegast and Creighton Rothenberger & Katrin Benedikt wrote the the script and producers are eyeing an October production start date.

Bond got his start in the music video world before making his feature film debut with 2013’s Shia LaBeouf-fronted Charlie Countryman.  Though the pic garnered a mixed response, Bond subsequently landed on a few promising director shortlists, including Pirates of the Caribbean 5.  Focus Features will release London Has Fallen on October 2, 2015.

The first trailer for director Fredrik Bond’s film Charlie Country has been released online.  Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood stars as a couple who meet under strange circumstances and have an impossibly strong mutual attraction, much to the chagrin of Wood’s dangerous husband (Mads Mikkelsen).  The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to fairly negative reviews, with many likening the pic to a feature-length music video.  Bond has made some edits to the pic since Sundance, so it’ll be interesting to see how the finished film stacks up.  This trailer highlights the meet-cute of the central couple, Wood’s odd Romanian accent, and Rupert Grint taking lots of drugs.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and if you missed our interviews from Sundance click here for the full cast and click here for Bond.  The film also stars Til Schweiger, James Buckley, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Melissa LeoCharlie Countryman will be simultaneously released VOD and in theaters on November 15th.

The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman is director Fredrik Bond’s first feature film.  Premiering at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, it stars Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood as a couple who meet under strange circumstances and have an impossibly strong mutual attraction.  As LaBeouf’s character Charlie falls for the beautiful and grieving Gabi, he gets caught in the sights of her dangerous husband (Mads Mikkelsen) and his life comes into immediate and grave danger.  The film feels like a modern fairy tale story of love and pain colliding set in the gritty world of Bucharest, Romania. It also stars Til Schweiger, Rupert Grint, James Buckley, Vincent D’Onofrio and Melissa Leo.

Shortly after the premiere of the film, I was able to sit down with director Fredrik Bond to discuss the film.  We were then pleasantly surprised to be joined by star James Buckley (The Inbetweeners) for the remainder of our 30 minute interview.  They discussed filming in Budapest, the unique look of the film, the closeness of the cast and gave me hints at what’s coming up next.  Click after the jump to read the whole interview.

The ratings are in, and Super Bowl XLVI just barely edged out last year’s game to rank as the most watched program in television history. Nearly 111.3 million people tuned in to watch the Giants vs. Patriots match-up and, subsequently, a whole lotta advertising. Last night we brought you a compilation of all the movie-related spots that ran during the game (including an extended version of The Avengers ad, which is fantastic), and today we’d like to bring your attention to the actual commercials. While most of us are looking for the cleverest or most laugh-inducing spot when judging these super-sized budgeted ads, quite a few notable filmmakers were actually behind many of last night’s spots.

After the jump you’ll find a compilation of ads directed by Peter Berg, Todd Phillips, David Gordon Green, Craig Gillespie, Bobby Farrelly, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., Lance Acord, Joe Pytka, Jake Scott, Fredrik Bond, Chris Smith, Miguel Arteta, Wayne McClammy, and Noam Murro.

We first reported on The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman almost a year ago when Shia LaBeouf was reportedly attached to the project. The Transformers star is still starring as the title character and now has a director to work with. Fredrik Bond, a director of numerous commercials, will be directing the “romantic actioner” from screenwriter Matt Drake (Project X). Another commercials director, Dante Ariola, had previously been attached to direct. The plot follows Charlie and his romantic relationship with a girl who has unfortunately been claimed by an insane mob boss with a penchant for violence and a gang at his disposal. Pre-production has started for the Voltage and Bona Fide Productions project. Hit the jump for an example of Bond’s work and the full synopsis of The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman.

Charlie St. Cloud movie image Zac Efron slice

Zac Efron has been tapped to star in a new untitled romantic-action flick for Mandate Pictures. The screenplay for the film, which was previously titled The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, was written by Matt Drake (the upcoming Project X) and ended up on 2007’s Black List of the top unproduced screenplays. Fredrik Bond will make his feature film debut directing the project, having helmed numerous commercials for brands like Nike, Adidas, Guinness and Heineken. The story is as follows:

The film will follow Efron, a suburban kid, who spontaneously travels to Eastern Europe to find himself.  Early on in his comedic journey, he falls for an alluring young woman and the only thing standing between them is her charismatic, dangerous ex from a criminal underworld.  Armed with little more than his wit and naive charm, Efron endures one bruising beat down after another in order to woo the girl he loves and achieve salvation.

Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa of Bona Fide Productions are producing the film along with William Horberg. Efron recently finished filming the Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Lucky One, and just wrapped on Garry Marshall’s New Years Eve. Hit the jump for the full press release.

Fredrik Bond to Direct Alien Invasion Film YEAR 12

Fredrik Bond has been tapped to direct the sci-fi action flick Year 12.  Produced by Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland) off of a spec script from Edward Ricourt, Year 12 is set in Manhattan and begins a dozen years after aliens have invaded Earth.  Per TheWrap, the film will follow the story of an “underwater uranium miner who is recruited by the human resistance to smuggle uranium in his blood so they can use it to blow up the alien mothership.”  The film is currently in turnaround at Paramount and is expected to land at a new studio in the near future.

Bond, an NYU film school alum, is known for his outstanding achievement in directing commercials for clients such as Guinness, Levis, and, you guessed it, department store extraordinaire, JC Penney.  In addition to Year 12, he is also attached to direct an adaptation of the ongoing comic book series Hack/Slash for Rogue Pictures as well as an English-remake of Bong Joon-ho’s South Korean monster movie, The Host, at Universal.
