Geek Gifts: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY’s Rocket and Groot from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles

Guardians of the Galaxy opens in two weeks and I’m hoping it’s going to be massive.  Based on the 17 minutes of footage I saw and my general love of writer/director James Gunn, I want nothing more for this film to do well (and for me to love it when I finally see it). I love all of the characters so far (I’ve never read the comics so I’m just going off of the movie here), especially the way Rocket and Groot kind of complete each other.  And now you can own them courtesy of Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles.  Each of these two characters has between 15 and 17 points of articulation and will include an additional interchangeable angry expression face and a pair of partially clenched angry palms for Groot.

Geek Gifts: THE DARK KNIGHT’s Joker in Bank-Robber Mode from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles

If you’re like me, you remember quite clearly the first time you saw Heath Ledger as the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.  In fact, that entire opening sequence is rather memorable, but the appearance by the Clown Prince of Crime was the cherry on top.  Now, you can reenact the scene itself (scaled down, and in the relative safety of your own home, that is) with the new Joker collectible figure from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles.  This bank-robbing version of the late Ledger’s now-iconic character comes with interchangeable heads, 30 points of articulation, and way more weapons in his pockets than simply knives and lint.

Todd McFarlane might be best known for his work in the comic book world, from drawing the Spider-Man villain Venom, to forming the independent publisher Image Comics, to creating the iconic anti-hero Spawn.  But in more recent years, McFarlane’s been known for his toy production company, which produces highly detailed action figures from comics, movies, and television.  One such property the company handles is AMC’s hit drama, The Walking Dead, but you’ve never seen Rick and Co. quite like this.  Coming this fall exclusively to Toys “R” Us, McFarlane Toys will release new building block sets and characters pulled directly from The Walking Dead, allowing collectors and fans alike to recreate their favorite scenes on their very own shelves.  Hit the jump to get an early look at the sets and to hear more from McFarlane.

Geek Gifts: The LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1

LEGO-Ghostbusters-Ecto-1

If you’re a Ghostbusters or LEGO fan, get ready to drop fifty dollars.  I say this because Amazon has started selling the LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1!   As we reported a month ago, the Ecto-1 was selected among the many fan-submitted LEGO CUUSOO creations and after some tweaking of the submitted idea, Lego produced the car along with some minifigures.  However, like the Back to the Future LEGO DeLorean, I would imagine Amazon is going to sell out pretty fast, so don’t wait too long if you want to own one.  Keep in mind it’s not a limited edition, but it’ll be hard to get for the first month or two.  Hit the jump for what it comes with and more images or click here to buy it on Amazon.

Geek Gifts: STAR WARS STORYBOARDS: THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY; Contains Altered and Deleted Scenes

I’m always fascinated by what didn’t make the final cut in a hugely successful blockbuster production.  These movies are so widely celebrated that I wonder if one scene could have changed the entire calibration.  However, sometimes these scenes never make it to a deleted scene.  Oftentimes, they’re relegated to the script or the storyboards.  That’s what makes the upcoming book Star Wars Storyboards: The Original Trilogy so exciting.  There always seems to be new information to mine when it comes to Star Wars, and this one contains artwork that’s never been seen before.  This artwork shows us things like a different conclusion for Obi-Wan and what Princess Leia looked like before her iconic hair buns.  Additionally, I can vouch for the good work of the publisher, Abrams, since they’re the ones that did the excellent Star Wars Visions book.

So you own the Han Solo in carbonite desk.  It’s cool, but it’s starting to feel a little too small, and it’s entirely too practical.  You’d like a Han in carbonite that’s truly life-size, one that takes up a massive amount of space with no secondary purpose.  Great news!  You can now own a life-size figure of Han in carbonite for just $7000 (some assembly required).

Own a Street-Legal Tumbler Replica from THE DARK KNIGHT Trilogy for $1 Million

by     Posted 294 days ago

batman-tumbler-batmobile

It’s always fun to drive a cool car, but what if you had the ability to own the coolest car?  A street-legal replica of the Batmobile from Christopher Nolan’s Batman films—aka “The Tumbler”—has been built and is now being put up for sale to the general public for a cool $1 million.  Yes, that’s right, this vehicle is 100% legal to drive on normal streets.  The vehicle comes complete with 44-inch tires, (extremely necessary) driver-assist cameras, and a stereo with Bluetooth and iPod integration so you can blast Hans Zimmer’s Batman score while driving the streets at night, searching for crime to thwart.  It’s not explicitly stated if the owner will be able to leap across buildings and shoot fire out of the back end, but it’s probably best if those features are not included so as to prevent citywide destruction at the hands of a very wealthy novice.

Hit the jump to take a look at some images of the Tumbler replica and to find out where you can purchase Christian Bale’s broodmobile.
