  • Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) will star in his first French-language role in writer-director David Oelhoffen’s Loin des hommes (Far From Men). 
  • Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) will star in Hop Frog, a revenge thriller based on the Edgar Allan Poe story that will be directed by Mark Palansky (Penelope).
  • Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones) has landed the lead of Greta Garbo in a biopic for the Swedish screen legend.
  • Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf) is reportedly in talks to lead Glimmer, a sci-fi thriller about a group of teens discovering a portal through time and directed by Ringan Ledwidge (Gone).

We’ve got a few casting stories to share this evening.  Briefly:

  • The very funny Bill Hader is in talks to star in the indie comedy Lawless, produced by Mike White and David Bernad.
  • Hailee Steinfeld has been tapped to star opposite Sam Worthington in director Phillip Noyce’s thriller For the Dogs.
  • Billy Crystal will lead the retirement community sex comedy Winter’s Discontent for director Frank Oz.
  • Shameless star Jeremy Allen White has landed the lead in DreamWorks’ found-footage time travel film Glimmer.

Summit Entertainment Sets Writer/Director Burr Steers for BREED Adaptation; DreamWorks Taps Ringan Ledwidge to Direct Sci-Fi Thriller GLIMMER

Summit Entertainment has set Burr Steers (Charlie St. Cloud) to write and direct an adaptation of horror-thriller novel, Breed. Written by Scott Spencer (Endless Love) under the pseudonym of Chase NovakBreed centers on a young couple who participate in an experimental fertility treatment, but must seek out a cure when they are transformed into bloodthirsty savages. Steers previously wrote screenplays for Igby Goes Down and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

In other acquisition news, DreamWorks has tapped director Ringan Ledwidge (Gone) to helm Glimmer, a time-traveling, sci-fi thriller produced on a shoestring budget. Hit the jump for more on both pictures.
