Goon is a great little sports comedy, and if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend checking it out (it’s currently available on Netflix Instant).  For those unfamiliar with the flick, it stars Seann William Scott as a sweet-natured bouncer who becomes a hockey enforcer.  Michael Dowse directed from a script by Jay Baruchel (who co-starred in the movie) and Evan Goldberg (This Is the End).

The movie has picked up a cult following, and at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, Steve asked Baruchel about the status of a sequel.  Baruchel said they were close to finishing a script, and that if they were able to work out everyone’s schedules, they might get it rolling as early as fall 2014.  Steve recently spoke to Goldberg about Goon 2 at the Neighbors junket, and the co-writer was a bit more cautious about the sequel’s immediate future.  Hit the jump for more on the Goon sequel:

One of the many films to premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was writer-director Jonathan Sobol‘s The Art of the Steal.  Loaded with a great cast featuring Kurt Russell, Matt Dillon, Jay Baruchel, Terence Stamp, Katheryn Winnick, Jason Jones, and Chris Diamantopoulos, the film is about a small group that teams up to steal one of the most valuable books in the world.  While I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, I had a blast watching The Art of the Steal.  The pic is a fresh take on the heist genre, and it’s loaded with great dialogue and fun set pieces.  While I’m not sure when it’s going to be released in America, it’s definitely worth checking out down the road.

Shortly after the premiere, I landed an extended video interview with Jay Baruchel.  During our wide-ranging conversation we talked about being at TIFF, what The Art of the Steal is about, what it was like for Baruchel to work with Kurt Russell and Terence Stamp, what he collects, the reception to This Is the End, the Goon sequel (and what it’s about), and more.  In addition, he talked about how he’d just seen the rough cut of How to Train Your Dragon 2, who he plays in the Robocop remake, and future projects like his pilot for ABC, and his comic book adaptation, Random Acts of Violence, which is in development.  Hit the jump to watch.

We haven’t talked much about the under-the-radar hockey picture, Goon, since earlier this year, but writer/star Jay Baruchel lit up the Twitterverse today with talk of a sequel.  The original starred Sean William Scott (American Pie) as Doug Glatt, the black sheep of his brainy family who works as a bouncer until an opportunity arises for him to be an enforcer on an underdog semi-pro hockey team. There is no word yet as to the plot of the sequel, but Baruchel will return to write the script with Jesse Chabot, director Michael Dowse will also return to direct the sequel; Evan Goldberg, who co-wrote the original, will return as a producer.  Hit the jump to hear from Baruchel himself.
