TV ratings for Thursday, September 25th are in and the takeaway is that it’s very good to be Shonda Rhimes right now.  Here’s a brief rundown:

  • ABC’s series premiere of the Rhimes-produced legal thriller How to Get Away with Murder performed excellently, debuting to a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demo and scoring 14 million viewers.  The show is a swell vehicle for star Viola Davis, and carries with it a twisty mystery hook in addition to the procedural aspect.  It was the most-watched show of the night and shared the title of highest-rated program with another Rhimes-produced series…
  • Which would be Scandal, also on ABC.  The buzzy soap returned for its fourth season with a 3.8 rating and 11.9 million viewers, marking series highs in both departments.
  • Rhimes’ other, long-running ABC series Grey’s Anatomy kicked off the night with a 3.0 rating and 9.8 million viewers, which is up from the May finale’s 2.6 rating.
  • Over on NBC, Parenthood kicked off its final season with a 1.4 rating and 4.3 million viewers, up from its last finale’s 1.3 rating.
  • The surprising season premiere of Bones on Fox notched a 1.6 rating and 6.2 million viewers, which was on par with its previous season finale.

Thursday TV Ratings: COMMUNITY Finale Tops PARKS AND REC; SCANDAL Finale Surges

community-basic-sandwich

Thursday evening’s TV ratings are in.  Here’s a brief look at the highlights:

  • The season five finale of NBC’s Community saw a slight ratings uptick, rising 11% from last week’s series low 0.9 rating to a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and scoring 2.9 million viewers.  It barely edged out Parks and Recreation for the night, but that’s still far from a “solid” ratings performance.  And yet, a sixth season renewal is actually looking pretty likely since it would put the series in a lucrative position for syndication.  If NBC doesn’t renew Community and “Basic Sandwich” ends up being the series finale, we’ll all just have to assume a giant asteroid destroyed all life on earth.  It is canon, after all.
  • Over on ABC, Scandal closed out its buzzworthy third season with a 3.4 rating and 10.45 million viewers, rising 13% from last week and marking the show’s highest rated season finale yet.  A fitting end to what’s been a breakout season for the Shonda Rhimes soap.

Thursday evening’s TV ratings are in.  Here’s a brief look at the highlights:

  • Last night’s episode of Community, quite possibly one of the strangest yet (and that’s saying something), fell a tenth from last week’s numbers to a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demo and scored 2.62 million viewers.  That marks a new series low for the NBC sitcom.
  • On the flipside, CBS’ The Big Bang Theory hit a “low” with a 4.6 rating and 15.99 million viewers, which is a dip of three tenths from last week’s 4.9 rating.  That’s a season low for the ratings juggernaut, though it still stood head and shoulders above everything else on Thursday night.

  • NBC’s Community was even with last week’s series low 1.0 rating and scored 2.89 million viewers, while Parks and Recreation didn’t fare much better by dropping two tenths to a 1.1 rating and 2.73 million viewers.
