With director Todd Phillips’ comedy sequel The Hangover Part III opening this week, I recently participated in a roundtable interview with Justin Bartha and Heather Graham.  In the final installment to the popular franchise, we find Stu (Ed Helms), Phil (Bradley Cooper), and Doug (Bartha) en route to taking Alan (Zach Galifianakis) to a psychiatric hospital when the gang is side-trekked by a mysterious man (John Goodman) who kidnaps Doug and forces the wolf pack to track down Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong), who stole $21 million from Goodman’s character.  As you might expect, chaos ensues.  For more on the film, watch the red band trailer or check out over forty images.

During the interview, Bartha and Graham talked about making the film, working with the baby from the first film again, collaborating with Phillips, if Graham came up with a backstory for her character, what it’s like to be back at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, and a lot more.  Bartha also talked about The New Normal‘s cancellation and how proud he was to have been part of the series.  Hit the jump for what they had to say.

New posters for two of this summer’s most anticipated films have arrived online.  First up, hot on the heels of yesterday’s excellent banner comes a new poster for Guillermo del Toro’s Warner Bros. tentpole Pacific Rim.  The film’s story is kicked off by the emergence of monsters (known as Kaiju) who start a war that devastates humanity.  To fight back, the humans build giant robots (known as Jaegers) that are controlled by two pilots.  This new poster shows a host of Jaegers assembling either for battle or one epic pool party.  The film opens in 3D on July 12th.

Additionally, a couple of new character posters for Todd Phillips’ trilogy closing The Hangover Part III features the return of Heather Graham’s stripper-with-a-heart-of-gold Jade and her baby “Carlos,” as well as John Goodman’s villainous character.  If you missed any coverage from our set visit, you can get caught up on interviews with Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Ken Jeong, Zach GalifianakisPhillips and screenwriter Craig Mazin at the corresponding links.  The film opens on May 24th.  Hit the jump to check out all three posters.

Heather Graham Talks AT ANY PRICE, THE HANGOVER 3, Her Script HALF MAGIC, and CALIFORNICATION

Heather Graham takes on an unforgettable role in Ramin Bahrani’s drama, At Any Price, as Meredith Crown, the town beauty who never managed to get out of town.  Set in the American heartland amidst the competitive world of modern agriculture, the film chronicles the complexity and corruption of the American Dream and what happens when ambitious Iowa farmer Henry Whipple (Dennis Quaid) and his rebellious son Dean (Zac Efron) face an unexpected crisis that threatens the family’s entire livelihood.

At the film’s recent press day, Graham talked about preparing for the role, her thoughts on the moral ambiguity of the characters, the directing process with Bahrani, working with Efron and why she admired his relationship with his fans, what she learned about GMOs and how it may have turned her into a vegetarian, and why she enjoyed shooting on location in Indiana.  She also discussed reuniting with the guys on The Hangover Part III,  her new screenplay, Half Magic, which she hopes to direct, and her upcoming role on Season 7 of Showtime’s Californication playing a woman from Hank’s past who comes back to haunt him.  Hit the jump to read more:

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for The Hangover Part III.  The first trailer almost made the movie look like an action flick, but now we’re getting a look at the comedy and the plot.  In the series’ final installment, Stu (Ed Helms), Phil (Bradley Cooper), and Doug (Justin Bartha) are taking Alan (Zach Galifianakis) to a psychiatric hospital, but the gang is side-trekked when a mysterious man (John Goodman) kidnaps Doug and forces the wolf pack to track down Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong), who stole $21 million from Goodman’s character.  There are some good laughs in here, so hopefully the trilogy will go out on a high note.

The first trailer for director Todd Phillips’ comedy sequel The Hangover Part III has been released.  Billed with the tagline “It All Ends”, and Stu threatening to burn Las Vegas to the ground, the trailer for Part III comes off more like an action movie than a comedy.  There are some jokes (the trailer closes with a great one), but more than anything, it looks like Warner Bros. is trying to push the idea that the trilogy’s conclusion won’t be a retread like The Hangover Part II.  Let’s hope so.

The first trailer for the drama At Any Price has been released online.  Directed by Ramin Bahrani, the film stars Dennis Quad as an ambitious farmer who is a father to a rebellious son (Zac Efron) with aspirations of race car driving.  An investigation into the family business brings the pair together in order to preserve their livelihood.  The trailer makes the film come off as a tad melodramatic, but I’ve give it the benefit of the doubt on account of the bounty of positive reviews that surfaced after the film’s festival screenings.  In his review, Matt called it “a thoughtful, rich exploration of how there’s not enough American Dream to go around.”

TIFF 2012: AT ANY PRICE Review

by     Posted 2 years, 75 days ago

at-any-price-dennis-quaid-slice

The American Dream is based on keeping the nuclear family intact and creating uninterrupted growth of property.  Our families can always be closer, and we can always have more wealth.  That’s the “dream” part, since families can’t stay close if some members expect to grow their independence, and acquiring more wealth usually means taking it away from somebody else.  Ramin Bahrani‘s At Any Price doesn’t show the corruption of the American Dream; it shows the American Dream’s complexity.  Set in the American heartland and revolving around farming—the industry our nation was built on, and one that still relies on family relationships—At Any Price is a thoughtful, rich exploration of how there’s not enough dream to go around.

New Trailer and Poster for ABOUT CHERRY Starring Ashley Hinshaw and James Franco

A new trailer for the porn-centered drama About Cherry has landed online.  The film follows an 18-year-old girl on the verge of finishing high school who ends up in the porn industry.  Ashley Hinshaw stars as the young girl, with James Franco playing a coked-out lawyer who becomes her beau.  The cast is rounded out by Heather Graham, Dev Patel, and Lili Taylor.  The story provides a nice avenue for exploring the ups and downs of the porn industry and whether it plays a role in the objectification of women, but it’s hard to tell if this is the case based on the trailer.  Hopefully something a little deeper than “I make a lot of money but my life is falling apart” is explored in the full feature.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Directed by Stephen Elliott, About Cherry will be available On Demand on August 9th and hits theaters on September 21st.
