DreamWorks has released a new The Hundred-Foot Journey featurette for director Lasse Hallström’s (Chocolat) adaptation of the Richard C. Morais novel of the same name. The story centers the rivalry between an Indian restaurant that is 100 feet away from a three-Michelin-star restaurant in France, with the eccentric French chef (Helen Mirren) reluctantly forming a bond with the young Indian boy (Manish Dayal) whose family owns the quaint Indian restaurant. Based on the trailer, the pic looks to be a nice, international story in the vein of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with a bounty of food porn to boot—and I’m perfectly fine with that. Not everything needs to be deadly serious or colorfully explosive, and as producers Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey explain in this featurette, the film also touches on the great gaps that surface between cultures and how there’s more that unites us than divides us.
Hit the jump to watch the Hundred-Foot Journey featurette, which is anchored by Spielberg and Winfrey discussing the pic. The film also stars Om Puri and Charlotte Le Bon and opens on August 8th.
