Summit Entertainment has released a new trailer for director Dean Parisot’s (Galaxy Quest) action-comedy sequel Red 2.  The spy follow-up pits ex-CIA operative Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) against Victoria (Helen Mirren) when MI6 greenlights his assassination as Interpol’s “Most Wanted.”  This trailer introduces us to the film’s new characters, as Anthony Hopkins plays a living MacGuffin (similar to John Hurt‘s character in Crystal Skull) and Catherine Zeta-Jones plays an old flame of Willis’ character who joins the group to combat a common enemy.  Byung Hun Lee appears to bring some freshness to the film’s action sequences, and the humorous tone is spot-on thanks to the sensibilities of Parisot.  All in all, Red 2 looks to be quite the fun ride.

Disney has released a new trailer for the Monsters, Inc. prequel Monsters University.  The pic focuses on the college years of Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sully (John Goodman), and this new full-length trailer reveals the film’s plot.  The Revenge of the Nerds-esque story finds Mike and Sully joining a fraternity of outcasts, as all of the Greek houses must compete against each other in the Scare Games, which carry dire consequences for the losers.  The film looks like it could be Pixar’s most purely fun movie yet, and early reactions from the screening at CinemaCon had many praising the pic’s heart.  If you missed any of Dave’s coverage from his visit to Pixar, be sure to check out his review from seeing 40 minutes of footage, 35 things to know about the film, and his interview with director Dan Scanlon.

The marketing campaign for Pixar’s 2013 release Monsters University looks to be in high gear, and I’m loving the faux-college virals they’ve been putting out thus far.  Today another such video has landed online, as we’re treated to “A Message from the Dean,” which plays like all of those cheesy commercials that colleges put out year after year.  It does a great job of capturing the spirit of those spots, and it also gives us a look at some new footage from the film.  The monster designs look incredible, and I can’t wait to see the rest of the creatures the folks at Pixar have dreamed up.  Also, is that Helen Mirren’s voice as the film’s Dean?  The recent featurette for the film hints at a major role for that character, so the casting would make sense.

Hit the jump to watch the video, and click here to watch the recent full trailer.  The film also features the voices of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Dave Foley, Julia Sweeney, Joel Murray, and Peter Sohn.  Monsters University opens in 3D on June 21st.

First Full Trailer for HBO Biopic PHIL SPECTOR Starring Al Pacino, Helen Mirren, Jeffrey Tambor, and Wigs

Phil Spector produced some of the most beautiful music you’ve ever heard.  Spector is also a crazy man who was convicted of second-degree murder in 2003.  Since insane geniuses captivate us so, HBO understands that we need a Phil Spector biopic, and they went all out for Phil SpectorAl Pacino plays Spector.  Helen Mirren and Jeffrey Tambor co-star.  David Mamet wrote and directed the thing, for goodness’ sake.

HBO released the first full trailer, and I’m not sure what to make of it.  Part courtroom drama, part fever dream, the clip doesn’t connect so much as it disrupts.  But we can count on three things: 1) Awesome soundtrack, 2) Terrific wigs, and 3) Lines like, “The first time you got felt up, guess what: You were listening to one of my songs.”  With Pacino shouting Mamet dialogue, that may be enough for a fun viewing experience when Phil Spector premieres on March 24, regardless of quality.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

One might not immediately think this year’s “over 60”-geared comedy/drama The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel lends itself to a sequel, but the film was a sizeable succcess, garnering positive reviews and netting over $130 million at the box office.  As such, development on a follow-up recently got underway with Ol Parker (who wrote the first film) penning the script and John Madden poised to return to direct.  Cast members Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, and Tom Wilkinson are all expected to return, and now a couple of newcomers may be added to the list: Helen Mirren and a young whipper snapper by the name of Colin Firth.

Per Showbiz 411, Firth and Mirren are “likely additions” to the cast.  The story will apparently continue the adventures of the older crew in India, though no details regarding Mirren or Firth’s characters are given.  Producers are also said to be looking for an American actress to round out the cast.

HITCHCOCK Review

When Alfred Hitchcock made Psycho, he built a foundation for the movie—woman steals money and tries to get away—before kicking the legs out from under it to leads us into an entirely new and exciting picture.  Sacha Gervasi‘s Hitchcock sets up no such foundation as it leaps into the marital difficulties between the Master of Suspense and his wife/partner, Alma Reville.  We’re led into a relationship already at the brink, and in an attempt to humanize a legend like Hitchcock, he comes off as small and a bit cartoonish.  We see his quirks and his insecurities, but rarely taken to a thoughtful or dangerous place.  Despite the strong performances, especially from the always-reliable Helen Mirren, Hitchcock pushes us away from the eponymous filmmaker and into a sad, predictable marriage spat.

A new batch of images for Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock has gone online, along with a new poster and clip from the film. Everything we’ve seen so far emphasizes the central focus of Hitchcock: not the famed director’s films, but rather his relationship with wife and creative partner, Alma Reville (Helen Mirren). The new clip highlights another of their snappy bits of dialogue. The images include Mirren’s Alma alongside Scarlett Johansson’s Janet Leigh and as Hitchcock himself, Anthony Hopkins.

The film also stars Jessica BielJames D’ArcyToni ColletteMichael StuhlbargDanny Huston, and Kurtwood Smith.  Hitchcock opens on November 23rd. Hit the jump to check out the new images, poster and clip.

Misleading International Trailer for HITCHCOCK Starring Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren

A new international trailer for Hitchcock has gone online.  While this trailer centers on the drama revolving around the making of Hitchcock’s Psycho, that’s not really the thrust of the movie.  It’s more of a backdrop to the film’s central (and less interesting) conflict between Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) and wife/partner Alma Reville (Helen Mirren).  This trailer shows only a hint of the marital tension between the two characters, which serves as the basis for most of the movie.  Going into Hitchcock thinking you’re about to see a riveting tale about the making of Psycho is a recipe for disappointment.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Scarlett Johansson, Danny Huston, Toni Collette, Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, James D’Arcy, Michael Wincott, Richard Portnow, and Kurtwood SmithHitchcock opens in limited release on November 23rd.

The first featurette for director Sacha Gervasi’s real-life drama Hitchcock has been released.  The film takes place during the troubled development and production of Psycho, specifically focusing on the relationship between Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) and his wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren).  This featurette boasts a great deal of new footage and centers on the complex collaboration and relationship between Hitch and Alma.  Mirren has already garnered plenty of awards buzz for her performance as Hitch’s “other half,” and it’s easy to see why based on this footage.
