Summary

A 1991 sitcom based on the stand-up routines of comedian Tim Allen, Home Improvement was the eight-season-long ABC series that turned Allen into a household name. As Tim "The Toolman" Taylor, Allen plays the host of the home improvement show-within-a-show "Tool Time" alongside his straightman co-host Al Borland (Richard Karn). Prone to accidental self-injury in the persistent drive for "more power" from his tools, Borland was never able to prevent Taylor's frequent trips to the hospital. Off the Tool Time set, Taylor navigated family melodrama with his wife Jill (Patricia Richardson) and their three sons Brad, Randy, and Mark (Zachery Ty Bryan, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and Taran Noah Smith, respectively). Many Home Improvement episodes centered on familiar family sitcom fare, with Taylor frequently garnering insight with the help of his neighbor Wilson, a mentor-ish presence engaging Allen's character from across the fence and with the bottom part of his face obscured.
