Geek Gifts: Baby Groot Hot Toys Collectible Offers the Most Detailed Version Yet

by     Posted 8 hours ago

As soon as audiences saw Guardians of the Galaxy opening weekend, fans were clamoring to own a dancing Baby Groot of their own.  Production on the collectible took a while, as director James Gunn opted not to have the toys manufactured in advance for fear of having the character’s fate spoiled before the movie opened, but things have started to catch up, and now an official Baby Groot Hot Toys collectible is poised for release.  The 1/4th scale “Little Groot” collectible features three interchangeable head sculpts as well as moveable arms and body to recreate the character’s “I Want You Back” dance.  At the reasonable price of $44.99, this thing would make a swell Christmas present.  It’s expected to ship in January.

The folks at Hot Toys are taking part in the Toy Soul 2014 convention in Hong Kong today and have unveiled some images from the showroom floor, giving us looks at some new figures.  Notable collectibles include a giant Hulkbuster from Avengers: Age of Ultron as well as other 1/6th scale collectibles of Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Hulk, and a new 1/4th scale Iron Man from the Avengers sequel as well.  In addition to the Avengers: Age of Ultron Hot Toys, there’s also a series of new Star Wars collectibles, including 1/6th scale and life-size figures (Boba Fett and Han Solo in carbonite, obviously).

Take a look at all of the new figures after the jump.

Hot Toys Reveals Iron Man’s Mark XLIII Armor from AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

by     Posted 5 days ago

Since Tony Stark decided to do away with all of his Iron Man armor in Iron Man 3, the superhero needs a new suit, and he’ll have one for Avengers: Age of Ultron.  Hot Toys will have a line of new figures for the upcoming film, and they’re kicking it off with the Mark XLIII armor, which features a new paintjob that tries to find a fresh way to blend the gold, silver, and hot-rod red from the previous armors.  I wasn’t a big fan of the XLII armor from Iron Man 3, and this one is only a little better.  I guess I’m old fashioned in thinking the Mark III from Iron Man was the best in terms of design, and the colors here just don’t seem to go together all that well.  At least they’re sticking with the circular arc reactor rather than returning to the triangle from the Mark VI armor from Iron Man 2.

Hit the jump to check out the new Avengers: Age of Ultron Iron Man suit.  The figure will be available later this year, and the film opens May 1, 2015.

Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles’ BACK TO THE FUTURE DeLorean Now Available for Pre-Order

by     Posted 107 days ago

Back to the Future was such an indelible part of my childhood that, for a long time, the only car that I wanted when I grew up was a DeLorean.  I didn’t care that they were expensive and rapidly going out of style, I cared about the fact that they looked awesome and the doors opened like wings.

Now Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles are releasing a sixth scale replica of that vehicle (the modded Doc Brown version of course).  It has those functional gull wing doors and working LED lights on both the interior and exterior of the model.  Hit the jump to check out images and pre-order the Hot Toys Back to the Future DeLorean here.  You can also pre-order the Marty McFly Sixth Scale Figure.  The DeLorean ships in March of 2016.

Check Out 30 Pictures of Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles Captain Harlock Sixth-Scale Figure

by     Posted 108 days ago

Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles constantly amaze me with their screen-accurate figures, and their latest offering, the Captain Harlock Sixth-Scale figure, is no different.  As I opened the box that Sideshow sent over, I immediately noticed the insane level of detail on the costume and weapons, and as I put everything together – including placing Harlock’s avian friend Mr. Bird on his shoulder – I felt like the manga comic had come alive in my living room.

Geek Gifts: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY’s Rocket and Groot from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles

by     Posted 153 days ago

Guardians of the Galaxy opens in two weeks and I’m hoping it’s going to be massive.  Based on the 17 minutes of footage I saw and my general love of writer/director James Gunn, I want nothing more for this film to do well (and for me to love it when I finally see it). I love all of the characters so far (I’ve never read the comics so I’m just going off of the movie here), especially the way Rocket and Groot kind of complete each other.  And now you can own them courtesy of Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles.  Each of these two characters has between 15 and 17 points of articulation and will include an additional interchangeable angry expression face and a pair of partially clenched angry palms for Groot.

Geek Gifts: THE DARK KNIGHT’s Joker in Bank-Robber Mode from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles

by     Posted 156 days ago

If you’re like me, you remember quite clearly the first time you saw Heath Ledger as the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.  In fact, that entire opening sequence is rather memorable, but the appearance by the Clown Prince of Crime was the cherry on top.  Now, you can reenact the scene itself (scaled down, and in the relative safety of your own home, that is) with the new Joker collectible figure from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles.  This bank-robbing version of the late Ledger’s now-iconic character comes with interchangeable heads, 30 points of articulation, and way more weapons in his pockets than simply knives and lint.

Check Out Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles’ THE BAT and THE BAT DELUXE from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

by     Posted 171 days ago

After showcasing the Batmobile in Batman Begins and the Bat-Pod in The Dark Knight, it was the natural evolution of the series to unveil the Bat-Wing aka “The Bat”.  Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles are now releasing Batman’s flying vehicle in two versions.  There’s the standard release that comes with a 1/12th scale Batman figure, and there’s also the deluxe version that also includes a 1/12 scale Selina Kyle figure as well as the fusion reactor that was set to destroy Gotham.  As for The Bat itself, it has remote controlled LED lights and spinning propellers, so that’s neat.

Hit the jump to check out images and click on the respective links to pre-order The Bat Collectible Set or The Bat Deluxe Collectible Set.  The toys will be available October 2015.

Over 50 Images of Sideshow Collectibles’ New IRON MAN MARK XXXV – RED SNAPPER 1/6th Scale Figure

by     Posted 173 days ago

Last week, Sideshow Collectibles’ sent me along their new Iron Man Mark XXXV – Red Snapper 1/6th scale figure.  I figured I should do an “unboxing” series of photos since the toys are celebrated for their level of detail.  Also, I’ve never opened a figure that cost over $250, so that was another reason to mark the occasion.  To be fair, when I started looking at the figure up close, I could see that the price tag is well worth it for die-hard collectors.  It’s not just the high level of detail; it’s also what’s missing.  You won’t see paint smudges or chipping or any signs of rushed mass-production.  It’s a carefully made product.

Over 70 Pictures From Inside HOT TOYS “Secret Base” Retail Store in Hong Kong

If you’re a fan of high end collectible toys, you’re probably familiar with Hot Toys.  While Hasbro might dominate the toy store shelves selling plastic to kids, Hot Toys aims squarely at adult collectors with their life-like figures from their wide array of licenses such as Marvel, DC Comics, Star Wars, Predator, Terminator, and more.  While the prices aren’t cheap, the amazing attention to detail, quality of materials used, and aftermarket value of the figures and vehicles due to the limited quantity of product, make many collectors extremely happy to pay whatever price to own the item.  I own a few Hot Toys.  They’re great.

I’m currently in Hong Kong because I’ve been covering the world premiere of Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction.  While most of the press left town on Friday, I decided to spend a few extra days exploring the city since I’ve never been to Asia.  Yesterday, while wandering around Mong Kok (a popular shopping district) with friends, we stopped in at the Hot Toys “Secret Base” retail store.  From the moment you walk in, you’re overwhelmed by some of the most amazing collectible toys.  Since I know many of you would love to see what’s on display, I took pictures of everything.  Hit the jump to check out the pics.

If you loved Jamie Foxx’s villainous Electro in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, now you can take him home with you (in a sixth-scale version).  The new Hot Toys figure features a detailed head sculpt, detailed costume, and LEDs to give the appearance of “realistic lightning.”  It also comes with a figure stand that will let you pose your mini-Electro in aerial combat stances, so that you might re-enact the film’s electrifying battle scenes.  It’s available for pre-order now, with an expected ship date of April 2015.

Geek Gifts: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Figure by Hot Toys

by     Posted 237 days ago

Before production on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 began, I loved the new costume.  I was so happy they ditched the one from the first movie, and went with something that wasn’t afraid to embrace a more comic-book style.  Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles are releasing a figure based on the character from the upcoming film, and here’s the good news: even if you don’t end up liking the movie, this is still a figure worth owning.  It may as well be a straight-up pull from the comics with the Amazing Spider-Man 2 branding.  That’s not to say I think the movie will be bad; I’m just glad that this figure looks great no matter what.

The 1/6th scale figure is expected to ship in October, and you can pre-order it now at Sideshow Collectibles for $229.99.  Hit the jump to check out some images of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Hot Toys figure.

Geek Gifts: Hot Toys Bruce Banner and Hulk Figures Are Always Angry

by     Posted 1 year, 12 days ago

The secret to Bruce Banner’s (Mark Ruffalo) transformation into the Hulk in The Avengers was that he is always angry.  You’ll have a tough time staying angry when this new Hot Toys sixth-scale collectible figure set shows up on your doorstep.  Featuring both Banner and his hulked-out alter ego (plus a stomped Chitauri soldier on the base), this collectible makes the perfect addition to your display case which already features Thor and Iron Man (right?).  Hit the jump for plenty of images of the set and all the details.

Geek Gifts: Hot Toys THOR – ASGARDIAN LIGHT ARMOR Figure, Plus Mjolnir

by     Posted 1 year, 50 days ago

In advance of Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World opening next week, we’re bringing you an opportunity to invite the Asgardian warrior himself into your home.  Sorry, it’s not actually Chris Hemsworth, but rather a sixth-scale Hot Toys facsimile.  Granted, this Thor figure may only be a foot tall, but he still packs a punch.  Included with the mighty God of Thunder is his equally mighty hammer, Mjolnir, which only the worthy (and your friendly neighborhood postal worker) can wield.

Available for pre-order now via Sideshow Collectible’s, the Thor – Asgardian Light Armor sixth-scale figure will set you back $229.99.  Hit the jump for more.
