Opening this weekend is Julian Farino’s The Oranges. The film is about two families who are best friends and neighbors- until one of the daughters (Leighton Meester) begins an affair with her father’s best friend (Hugh Laurie), and the comical and emotional aftermath of that affair. The all-star cast includes Catherine Keener as Laurie’s wife who finds a new purpose in life, Allison Janney and Oliver Platt as Nina’s bewildered parents and Alia Shawkat as Laurie’s daughter- and Nina’s former best friend turned arch rival. It also stars Adam Brody and up-and-comer Sam Rosen.

At the press junket for the film, I was able to speak to Laurie and Keener about their breakfast preferences, how they got involved in the film, working with an ever-present screenwriting team, and of course, Doctor House.  Hit the jump to watch.

After eight seasons, the hit Fox drama House comes to an end with its series finale on May 21^st. Following a one-hour retrospective special that will look back at this groundbreaking series and feature interviews with the series’ stars and producers, the emotional series finale, directed by series creator/executive producer David Shore, with find the team treating a drug addict patient (guest star James LeGros) that results in Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) examining his life, his future and his own personal demons.

During this recent interview to reflect on the end of the popular TV show, David Shore talked about what he’d most like the show to be remembered for, how fans of the series can expect a bittersweet ending, why the House/Wilson friendship has endured, the biggest surprises of the show’s success, how proud he is of what they accomplished over eight seasons, what it was like to direct the final episode, and that he never had an endgame planned out from the beginning, but that things never veered too far off of his original vision. He also talked about his plan to continue in television and develop something new, and that he is looking forward to exploring new characters, new ideas and a new setting. It’s the end of March, which in TV Land means it’s time to start planning for the season finales that will air in May.  We wanted to pass along a pair of notable finale castings over at Fox.  First, TV Line reports that Olivia Wilde will return for the House series finale.  Wilde left the cast last season to capitalize on her budding movie career.  But since she played Thirteen for 80 episodes on the medical drama, so social courtesy dictates she returns for the very last episode.  Even amid the lulls, House has always been great with “event” episodes, so I am excited to see how the writers sign off after 8 seasons (presumably with a bang).  As a fan of Wilde and the character, I’m glad she will be involved.  Creator David Shore and longtime House writers are currently working on the swan song, which will air on May 21.

After much speculation, the producers of House M.D. have finally come to a smart decision. The current eighth season of the medical drama series starring Hugh Laurie will be the last. With Lisa Edelstein opting not to come back this season, the writing was on the wall for Dr. Gregory House to end his practice, and now it’s official. While the show certainly should come to an end at this point, this season has been surprisingly decent, especially with new cast members like Charlyne Yi and Odette Annable. The most recent episode, a departure from the show’s usual formula, was one of the best of the season, and while the writers certainly still have some fight left in them, it’s time to give House and his team a respectful exit. Does that mean we’ll see some old faces stop by for a clean wrap up? We’ll have to wait and see. Michael B. Jordan (best known from television via Friday Night Lights and The Wire) emanates an effortless aura of “cool”. In Chronicle, the upcoming found footage + superhero flick, Jordan channels his inherent charms as Steve Montgomery – the uber-popular wannabe politician who upon exposure to a radiating crystal-of-some-kind obtains the ability of telekinesis. I spent the majority of Chronicle convinced that this Steve cat was just too cool, too smooth, too damn likable – that there must be something wrong with the kid, something he’s hiding, some sinister motive or skeleton-in-a-closet; but my paranoia was proven unfounded as Steve reveals himself to be far more empathetic and kind then even he initially lets on.

In the following interview, Michael B. Jordan talks about being just so darn likable, the political figure he emulated for Steven and his time on television (past – Wallace on The Wire and future – an upcoming stint on House). For the full interview hit the jump.

As part of the TCA Press Tour presentation for Fox, President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly took some time to talk about where things stand with a number of their popular and long-running series. While he did say that the Jonah Hill animated series Allen Gregory was officially canceled, he said they still haven’t made final decisions on House, Fringe or Terra Nova, for further seasons, and shared some insight into how those calls will be made. And, although there will not be a Glee spin-off with Lea Michelle and Chris Colfer, Reilly said that show creator Ryan Murphy has come up with a cool idea for the show to continue beyond the graduation of some of the favorite characters, with them still involved in the series. There are two competing Linda Lovelace biopics in the works right now.  Amanda Seyfried will play the 1970s porn star in Lovelace.  A report from yesterday added Adam Brody, Eric Roberts, and Demi Moore to the supporting cast alongside Peter Sarsgaard, Sharon Stone, Juno Temple, Wes Bentley, Hank Azaria, and possibly James Franco.  Malin Akerman will assume the starring role in Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story, surrounded by the likes of Matt Dillon, Paz de la Huerta, Harold Perrineau, and Sasha Grey.  For my money, Lovelace is winning the casting battle handily, a fact not changed by Variety‘s report that Adam Goldberg is in final talks to play fellow porn star Harry Reems in Inferno.  Maybe I am swayed by my fondness for Brody, who’s playing Reems in Lovelace.  But really, Seyfried + Sarsgaard > Akerman + Dillon.  However, I am on record saying I don’t have the heart to watch this ugly tale, so no need to appeal to me.  Matthew Wilder will direct Inferno based on his own script, adapted from Lovelace’s autobiography Ordeal.

If you can ignore the annoying woman introducing the clip, we’ve got yet another sneak peek at the eighth season of House M.D., which finds out titular medical genius woefully bored and frustrated in prison. The clip you’ll find after the jump shoes us that House is still very much in the doctor frame of mind and prison hasn’t yet broken that sarcastic barrier he always builds around him. Since this is the first season without Lisa Edelstein as Dr. Cuddy, I’m interested to see how the series holds up, and if it can sustain itself for what will likely be its final season.

Meanwhile, taking a more behind-the-scenes featurette approach to preview what’s coming in the fall, the fourth season of Parks & Recreation aims to deliver in a big way with Patricia Clarkson laying down the law as Tammy 1, Ron Swanson’s first she-devil of a wife who terrifies even Tammy 2 (played by Megan Mullally). Interviews with the cast and crew catch us up on the end of last season (so beware of spoilers), and this season looks to be better than the last. You can find both sneak peeks after the jump.

Though Lisa Edelstein may not be returning as Dr. Cuddy for the eighth and presumably final season of House M.D., it looks like the consequences of the epic end of her relationship with Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) will be in full force. Fox has just released a new promo for the coming season, and it looks like House will be taking some serious punishment from the law and from those who have broken it. And I don’t want to spoil it, but that tagline for the season premiere is pretty damn good. You’ll see what I mean after you check out this short but sweet promo after the jump.

As part of the TCA Press Tour presentation for Fox, President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly took some time to talk about the focus of their returning series for the Fall season, the possibility of further seasons for a number of those shows, and the role that their new line-up will play, in determining the future of the network. Here are the most interesting points:

• Season 3 of Glee will return its focus on the core characters and relationships, with three of the original cast graduating this season. There are not going to be any big guest stars this season, or tribute episodes.
• There is no doubt that Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk will be able to manage their time on both Glee and their new FX drama series American Horror Story.
• Fox has made the unique decision to team up with Seth MacFarlane to produce  Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey, a 13-part sequel to the Emmy-winning 1980 PBS docu-series from Carl Sagan.
• The folks behind Terra Nova are right on track with where that show needs to be, in order to have the episodes ready for their air dates, and Fox believes they’ve got a real shot with the epic series.
• Kevin Reilly is happy with where things are at with both Fringe and Bones, and hopes both of those series will be continuing with future seasons. And, although they are considering a Season 8 for House, even involved wants to be sure to go out on top creatively, so no decision has been made yet.
• An option has been extended with the cast of Breaking In, so there is still some slim hope that that series could return, at some point.

Here’s a trio of TV casting updates for you. First off, we already know that Lisa Edelstein will not be reprising her role as Dean of Medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro on the upcoming eighth season of House M.D. but the female portion of the cast won’t be down one as EW has learned that Knocked Up and Paper Heart star Charlyne Yi will become a series regular this fall. She’ll be playing another young doctor joining House’s team, and with her awkward nature and charming comedic timing, it should be quite an interesting match-up with Hugh Laurie.

Just recently we got a rundown of premiere dates for The CW’s returning and new series for the 2011-2012, now Fox has unveiled their premiere dates for new and returning series starting in September. Returning series include the musical comedy Glee, the family sitcom Raising Hope, and the long-running animated hit Family Guy. In addition, you’ll find premiere dates for promising new series like Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi drama Terra Nova, Jonah Hill’s new animated comedy Allen Gregory and Zooey Deschanel’s charmingly funny New Girl. Last month we found out that Fox had finally renewed House for an eighth season and series stars Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps had already signed on to reprise their roles as Wilson and Foreman respectively. Now Deadline has word that Lisa Edelstein, who plays Dr. Cuddy, hospital administrator and on-again-off-again love interest for Hugh Laurie’s Dr. Gregory House, will not be returning for the eighth season. I’ve already said the antics on the show this season were getting a little out of hand, and I was hoping for an end sooner or later, and with a big departure like this, I’m willing to bet next season will be the last. Honestly, I just don’t see where else House can go as a character without rehashing his drug addiction and depression again. Any fans worried about Edelstein’s departure?

Though there had been some concern about the series getting renewed at Fox for another season, the network announced today they have picked up their long-running medical drama House for an eighth season. Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company says, “Over the past seven seasons, House has redefined the medical drama and has given us one of television’s most compelling and iconic characters. From the producers to the incredible writers to the unbelievably talented cast and crew, the House team is fearless in its creativity and I can’t wait to see what they have in store next year.”

In addition, for the returning cast, Deadline says both Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps have decided to return for the eighth season as well. Honestly, the end of this season has started to get a little outrageous, and part of me was hoping we might end the series sooner than later. Maybe this eighth season could be its last? We’ll have to wait and see.
