A new Japanese trailer for director James Mangold’s sequel The Wolverine has made its way online. The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.” There are a few bits of new footage to be found in this trailer, including an increased focus on Wolverine’s possible mortality in the face of danger. The action sequences continue to look impressive, and I’m hoping the reliance on CG is minimal since the most promising stuff in all of the trailers we’ve seen thus far is the tight, hand-to-hand combat scenes.

20th Century Fox has released a batch of high-resolution images from director James Mangold’s upcoming sequel The Wolverine. The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.” We recently got a look at the character in action by way of two trailers, but these images give us a closer (and clearer) look at the environment that Mangold has cooked up for the Japan-set story. We’ve seen a few of these images before in lower resolution versions, but there are also some new peeks at The Wolverine in action, including a rather impressive chain wrangling.

A new poster has been released for The Hangover Part III along with a new international poster for The Wolverine. The Hangover poster has the wolf pack dressed to kill, or at least bludgeon severely. Also, I just realized that Stu’s face tattoo was gone. I’ll chalk that up to A) The Hangover Part II being incredibly forgettable, and B) I don’t think laser tattoo-removal has reached the point where it wouldn’t leave any trace of a scar. People who have had tattoos removed: is that possible? As for The Wolverine poster, it’s not great, but it’s miles better than the other posters except for the teaser.

I’m still surprised by how deeply Les Miserables touched me. I’m not a huge fan of musical theater and while I’d been mildly impressed by the 10th anniversary concert, I never grasped what all the fuss was about. I went into Tom Hooper’s 2012 movie adaptation with high hopes, but no expectations. I left a blubbering wreck, reduced to tears a good half-dozen times in the course of its 150-minute running time. Plenty of folks feel the same way… and plenty of other folks still see nothing but bombastic sentiment. The new Blu-ray isn’t likely to change anyone’s minds. Or is it? Before I dive into the main topic of this week’s opening paragraph, just a quick disclaimer that the Top 5 will be taking a week off next Saturday to accommodate the first, and perhaps only, trip to Hawaii I will ever take. Here’s to hoping it’s less awkward but equally as life-changing and Kristen Bell/Mila Kunis-filled as Forgetting Sarah Marshall depicted. That said, while it fell just short of the cut this week, I still want to draw attention to the first trailer for director Adam Wingard‘s You’re Next that debuted on Thursday. As a horror fan, I’m always excited when a new entry in the genre gets lauded from both sides of the aisle (horror fans and those who aren’t as giddy about movies that make them think twice about turning out the lights). As far as I’m concerned, August 23rd can’t get here soon enough.
All Hawaii and horror fanboy talk aside, this week’s list offers up the first trailer(s) for The Wolverine, interviews with Dwayne Johnson and more for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the first trailer and posters for White House Down, a new red-band trailer for Pain & Gain, and The Host interviews with Saoirse Ronan and more. As you’re probably expecting, a brief recap and link to all of the above can be found after the jump.

After a couple of days of teasing (literally), we finally got our first good look at director James Mangold’s sequel The Wolverine yesterday by way of a debut domestic trailer and an international trailer. Though both trailers offered up different bits of footage, it’s absolutely clear that Mangold and star Hugh Jackman are ramping up the level of intensity for the character this time around. Jackman recently talked a bit about some of the more interesting aspects of the trailer, addressing the Viper character, that crazy-looking bullet train sequence, and how the cameo from a familiar X-Men character fits into the film’s story. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

The international trailer for director James Mangold’s sequel The Wolverine was released about a half-hour ago, and now the domestic version is online. The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.” The U.S. trailer contains new footage, and while I think the international version is slightly better, both trailers hammer home the “life-or-death battle”. The big difference is that the U.S. version reveals the man offering Wolverine a chance at mortality.

A new international trailer for director James Mangold’s The Wolverine has been released online. The upcoming film follows the events of X-Men: The Last Stand where a guilt-ridden Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) doesn’t want to live with the curse of immortality, so he’s offered the chance to lose it thanks to a mysterious benefactor. I really like this premise, although it reminds me a little of this comedy video. Mangold looks like he’s found a nice balance between action and drama, and I’m eager to see where this story goes.

Yesterday, six seconds of the first trailer for The Wolverine were released. Today, we’re getting 20 seconds because studio marketing has gone to a horrible place where we get ads for ads for ads. I’ll have my thoughts on the full trailer when it’s released tomorrow.

20th Century Fox is kicking its marketing campaign for James Mangold’s (3:10 to Yuma) superhero pic The Wolverine into high gear this week, and it all started this morning with a batch of new images and two new posters. Now comes the continuation of the “trailers for trailers” trend, as Fox has released a six-second teaser for the film’s first trailer on Vine. It’s basically an incredibly brief flash of a lot of action with zero context, but the film does look to be fairly intense. Also, is that Jean Grey I spot? Fox will release a 20-second teaser of the trailer tomorrow, and then on Wednesday we get the full first trailer. Welcome to the future, folks.

With the trailer for The Wolverine set to be released in two days, Fox has released two new posters and eight new images from the spinoff-sequel. The images give us a look at supporting cast members. The woman in the kimono is Mariko (Tao Okamoto), the woman Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) must protect from the Yakuza; the one with the bright red hair is the warrior Yukio, (Rila Fukushima); and the gal in green is the villainous Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova). Looking over these images, I’m not exactly sure what director James Mangold is going for. Most of the images fit in with the more “realistic” tone he’s been claiming, but Viper’s costume is pure comic-book. I’m curious to see how it all plays together. As for the posters, they’re easily in the running for worst of the year. I honestly can’t decide which is worse—the one with the kneeling scream or the awful photoshop of Wolvie surrounded by ninjas.

Hugh Jackman has made his first film commitment since landing a Best Actor Oscar nomination for last year’s Les Miserables. The actor has signed on to star in Paramount’s feature film adaptation of the upcoming Harlan Coben mystery novel Six Years. The book tells the story of Jake Fisher, a man who, after having watched the love of his life marry another man six years prior, decides to attend this other man’s funeral in the hopes of spotting his former flame. Once Jake realizes that the mourning widow is not Natalie but another woman entirely, his past memories with Natalie are thrown into question. Hit the jump for more.

We’ve been getting teased with new images from The Wolverine since September, and three more have arrived online today. Director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman have promised that the second Wolverine spinoff will be true to the spirit of the badass character fans have come to know and love. In fact, in one of the images, which were scanned from Total Film, Jackman is quoted as saying, “It’s the badass Wolverine I know everybody wants to see.” I’m not sure who we were seeing the last five times (I’ll count the First Class cameo), but no one’s going to turn down seeing that version of the character again. As for when we might actually see the character in motion, Mangold has tweeted that a sneak peek of the trailer will arrive on March 26th, the 1-minute and 51-second debut trailer will premiere online on the 27th, and the trailer will arrive in 2D and 3D in theaters on the 29th.

Though we should be getting our first look at footage from The Wolverine by way of a debut trailer any day now, director James Mangold has taken to Twitter to share some photos of a few of his actors taken on the final day of principal photography. It’s admittedly not much, but seeing as how we’ve only seen a couple of images of Hugh Jackman as the titular character thus far, it’s nice to see the film’s other castmembers Rila Fukushima and Tao Okamoto. Fukushima plays Yukio in the film, while Okamoto plays Logan’s love interest Mariko.
