Do you like video games? What about cool art? If you answered “yes” to either question and live in Los Angeles, I know what you should be doing tonight. iam8bit is opening their newest gallery show, and it’s a videogame-themed art extravaganza featuring the work of a variety of returning and first-time artists inspired by classic 1980’s videogames.
Last night iam8bit held a small preview, and I stopped by as the doors were closing to take pictures of everything on display. As you’ll see after the jump, the show is loaded with some great stuff from 80 artists like Mark Englert, Olly Moss, Aled Lewis, DKNG, JC Richard, Phantom City Creative, We Buy Your Kids and many, many more.

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a billion times: there simply isn’t enough video game-themed artwork to go around these days. Perhaps a day will come when a Martin Ansin Bioshock, a Tyler Stout Fallout: New Vegas, and an Olly Moss Silent Hill will hang on Limited Paper’s walls, but until that day we will continue beating this very particular drum.
Luckily, Limited Paper isn’t alone in this battle: the good folks at iam8bit are fighting the good fight along with us, and next Friday they’re going to debut an all-new showcase of video game-themed pieces…and they’ve lined up guys like Olly Moss, Mark Englert, JC Richards, Aled Lewis, and Steve Courtney. Wanna see a couple of exclusive reveals? Meet me after the jump, folks.

If you’re a fan of Street Fighter, limited prints, original artwork, or just want to seesomething cool, I strongly suggest checking out iam8bit’s gallery on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles. That’s because starting last night and running until August 19, iam8bit’s newest art show focuses on one of the biggest video games of all time: Street Fighter! Featuring work by over 50 artists, the 4,500 square foot space is loaded with really cool original pieces and some of them are giclee prints with edition sizes running between ten to twenty-five. In addition, if you’ve always wanted to own the inside the cabinet artwork from the actual Street Fighter arcade game, they’ve got a number of different versions for $40 each. It’s a great show that I definitely recommend.
However, for everyone that won’t be able to make it, I took 70 pictures last night so hit the jump to check out all the artwork from the show.

As you’ve probably noticed, movie-poster collecting has turned into a Ron Burgundy-sized “Big Deal” over the past few years: everywhere you look, brilliantly talented artists like Aaron Horkey, Tyler Stout, and Ken Taylor are joining forces with places like Gallery 1988, IAm8Bit, and the newly-opened Mondo Gallery to create collectible, gorgeously-rendered works of art based on your favorite movies and TV shows, and every time one of these posters drops…a poster-collector is born.
And where do we–the die-hard paper-geeks of the world– go for our news? For our drop announcements? For interviews with our favorite artists? For reckless rumor-mongering about upcoming events? Last week, we unveiled Limited Paper, a new ongoing series here at Collider.com designed to keep everyone from poster-collecting veterans to poster-collecting n00bs up to speed on just those issues. Want to know what’s new in the limited paper world this week? Meet me after the jump, folks.

One or two dark corners of the internet might traffic in the kind of information collectors crave, but we think we can streamline that process a bit (and even if we fail, it is an excuse to ramble on about posters for the umpteenth time, and we never get tired of that). Wanna see what we’ve put together? Check out Limited Paper #1 after the jump, folks.

If you’re not familiar with the work of IAm8Bit, you’re missing out on some of the coolest artwork currently available in the States, and—as 8Bit fans can tell you—one of the group’s finest collaborators is artist Jim Rugg. Rugg’s made a name for himself creating tongue-in-cheek works of art (often with nothing more than a ballpoint pen), and his latest show, titled Notebook Nerd, is making its debut this weekend at the IAm8Bit gallery in Los Angeles. Gonna be in the neighborhood and interested to see some of the stuff that’s gonna be on display? Meet me after the jump, folks.
