Who would have thought a movie starring two of the most sought-after stars in the industry would have had this much trouble finding domestic distribution?  Serena features Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper as Serena and George Pemberton, newlyweds trying to build their own timber empire.  The business takes off thanks to Serena’s ability and ambition, but when she uncovers the truth of George’s past, it threatens the stability of their marriage and business.

Two weeks ago it was finally announced that Magnolia, the sister company of Serena financier 2929 Productions, became the film’s US distributor by default.  The movie will makes its way into theaters in early 2015 and at this point, I can’t wait just because I’m so curious to find out what went so terribly wrong.  The trailer isn’t all that bad and I wouldn’t suspect anything’s amiss based on these five new Serena images.  Hit the jump to check them out.

Earlier in September, Collider was invited to participate in a long-lead press day for both the Maleficent Blu-ray (available on November 4th) and the Diamond Edition Blu-ray of the animated classic Sleeping Beauty (available on October 7th).  Not only did we get to view a progression of how the artwork and animation of Sleeping Beauty developed, and were able to get insight from Animation Research Library representative Doug Engalla, we also learned about what it took to finally get Maleficent on the big screen, from executive producer Don Hahn.  While we will run what each of them had to say, closer to the release dates of each Blu-ray, we did want to share the coolest part of the experience, which was to spend time in and tour the house that Walt Disney had built in 1932.  Hit the jump to learn more about the property and the time he spent in it, and you can check out some photos, both from the time that he lived there with his family and how it looks now.

Aspiring filmmaker Walt Disney made his way from Kansas City to Hollywood in 1923.  Once there, he and his brother, Roy, launched Disney Bros. Studio out of a small storefront in Downtown Los Angeles, and then built a new studio on Hyperion Avenue in the Silver Lake District, as the company expanded.  It was there that an inker named Lillian Bounds was hired and soon caught Walt’s eye, marrying him in 1925.  And once Lilly became pregnant in 1932, Walt designed his future family home on a five-acre piece of property on Woking Way in Los Feliz, where the Disney family lived until 1950.  Being inside the home, knowing that there were so many special family moments, along with hours of artistic creativity spent developing a variety of different projects, you can feel a bit of that Disney magic.

After an opening salvo last week Lionsgate continues to supply new The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 images on the regular.  The three pics they just released are fairly inconsequential but I loved Catching Fire so much I’m happy to report on the minutia of  Francis Lawrence’s upcoming films in the series.  The new images focus on the characters played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin, and Evan Ross.  As you can tell from the end of Catching Fire and the first trailer for the new film, Hoffman’s Plutarch Heavensbee is coming from a completely different place this time around.

Remember last month when some genuine concept art from Star Wars: Episode VII started popping up, revealing the new Stormtroopers and the costume designs for Han Solo?  Well the same source is at it again, as they’ve now revealed a Chrome Trooper image by way of even more concept art.  Thankfully this isn’t incredibly spoilerly, but it’s neat to see how director J.J. Abrams is making the franchise his own by tweaking some very familiar designs.  The Millennium Falcon remains unchanged, wisely, but this new concept art shows a chrome-plated version of Stormtrooper that should pair nicely with the traditional white.  What makes the Chrome Trooper so special?  We’ll have to wait until December 18, 2015 to find out.

Hit the jump to take a look at the Star Wars: Episode 7 Chrome Trooper images.  The film stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Harrison Ford, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie, Miltos Yerolemou, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Max von Sydow.

Listen to a Track from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ GONE GIRL Score; Plus 9 New Images

October 3rd seems so close and yet so far away.  Gone Girl is hands down my most anticipated film of the rest of the year, not because of the story or source material, but because David Fincher is one of the few truly uncompromising filmmakers we have left.  When the film hits theaters, we’ll know that this is Fincher’s film through and through, and he seems to have a lot to say about relationships and our inherent narcissistic nature in the telling of this story.  Another reason to be excited about Gone Girl is the score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.  The duo’s work on The Social Network is one of the vital pieces that makes that movie a masterpiece, and while their Girl with the Dragon Tattoo score was a bit too similar-sounding to Social Network for my taste, I’m incredibly curious to see what they’ve come up with for Gone Girl.  And I’m in luck, because the very first Gone Girl soundtrack clip has been released online, and it teases a very different—yet still haunting—kind of score.  Is that a copy machine I hear?

Take a listen to the first Gone Girl soundtrack clip from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross after the jump, along with some new images from the film.  Starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Tyler PerryCarrie CoonKim DickensPatrick FugitScoot McNairyMissi PyleCasey WilsonEmily Ratajkowski, and Neil Patrick Harris, Gone Girl will premiere at the New York Film Festival and opens in theaters on October 3rd.

Meet the Characters of Jason Reitman’s Dark Ensemble in 17 New MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN Images

Fresh off the full-length trailer debut, Paramount Pictures has released a large batch of new Men, Women & Children images from Up in the Air and Young Adult director Jason Reitman’s new film.  The drama follows the loosely connected stories of a group of teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate life in the digital age.  I saw the film at TIFF and thought it was excellent.  It’s an incredibly dark snapshot of humanity and the ways in which we interact with one another, and it marks a solid step forward in Reitman’s increasingly unpredictable filmography.  The story takes place in a Texas town, and the local high school is the link that connects the various storylines.  These new images reveal the cast of characters, including Ansel Elgort and Kaitlyn Dever’s young loners, Adam Sandler and Rosemarie DeWitt’s disillusioned married couple, and Dean Norris’ single father.

New AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW Images Reveal Kathy Bates’ Bearded Lady, Michael Chiklis’ Strong Man, and More

Ahead of the fourth season premiere next month, FX has unveiled a batch of new American Horror Story: Freak Show images.  Ryan Murphy’s anthology series returns with a new setting, hook, and cast of characters, this time focusing on the carnies of a traveling freak show in 1952 Florida.  These images give us a close-up look at Kathy Bates as the Bearded Lady, Michael Chiklis as the Strong Man, and plenty more additions to the ensemble.  This anthology format has been a suitable outlet for Murphy, who tends to expend all of his creative energy in a short amount of time.  Even so, portions of AHS seasons in the past have felt too crowded and overloaded at times.  My hope is that the Freak Show story will be a bit more streamlined this year, but regardless, seeing a bearded Kathy Bates and a two-headed Sarah Paulson should be quite entertaining.

Hit the jump to check out the new American Horror Story: Freak Show images and a disturbing new poster.  The series also stars Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Angela Basset, Emma Roberts, Denis O’Hare, Frances Conroy, Patti LaBelle, Finn Wittrock, Naomi Grossman, and John Caroll LynchAmerican Horror Story: Freak Show premieres on FX on October 8th.

Jennifer Lawrence Goes to War in New THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 Images

Lionsgate has unveiled a collection of new The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 images from the first half of director Francis Lawrence’s conclusion to the franchise.  As seen in the full-length trailer, the story finds Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss on the frontlines of an all-out war between the rebels of District 13 and the Capitol.  These new images showcase Katniss’ battle-readiness, but the highlight of Mockingay – Part 1 for me continues to be Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer’s Cressida.  She looks absolutely badass in the role, and after hearing Dormer’s thoughts on women in the movie industry at the “Women Who Kick Ass” panel at this year’s Comic-Con, I’m essentially ready to vote her into office.
