Universal Pictures has released some new A Walk Among the Tombstones images from director Scott Frank’s (The Lookout) upcoming dark crime thriller.  The film stars Liam Neeson as an alcoholic ex-cop who investigates the kidnapping of a heroin drug lord’s wife, teaming up with a heroin trafficker (Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens) and his brother to hunt down the men responsible for the crime.  While on the surface this could be seen as another cash-in on Neeson’s “badass hunting down bad people” movie genre, I’m highly encouraged by the involvement of Frank.  He penned the scripts for Out of Sight and Minority Report and I was a big fan of his previous directorial effort The Lookout, so it’s with some degree of anticipation that I’m looking forward to this one.   Moreover, Stevens proves in The Guest that he’s more than capable of handling a darker role, so his turn in Tombstones should be quite interesting.

Hit the jump to check out the new A Walk Among the Tombstones images.  The film also stars David Harbour and Boyd Holbrook.  A Walk Among the Tombstones opens in theaters on September 19th.

Dorsey, Tessa Thompson, Tim Roth, Wendell Pierce, and Colman Domingo.  The film will open in limited release on Christmas Day before expanding nationwide on January 9, 2015.

Theodore Melfi’s feature directorial debut, St. Vincent, is just about two weeks away from making its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.  We’ve already got a trailer and a small handful of images, but now there’s three more stills from the film to go along with them.

St. Vincent features Bill Murray as Vincent, Maggie (Melissa McCarthy) and Oliver’s (Jaeden Lieberher) retired neighbor with a drinking problem, bad attitude and no money in his bank account.  When Maggie gets stuck working long hours, she lets Vincent watch Oliver while she’s gone, giving him a chance to make a quick buck.  Hit the jump to check out those new stills to get a sense of what babysitting means to Vincent.  The film also stars Chris O’Dowd and Naomi Watts.  It’s set to screen at TIFF on September 5th and will begin its theatrical run on October 14th.

New ROSEWATER Images: Gael Garcia Bernal Is Blindfolded in Jon Stewart’s Directorial Debut

A couple of new Rosewater images have been released for comedian and The Daily Show host Jon Stewart’s directorial debut as the film’s World Premiere looms closer.  Written and directed by Stewart, the pic stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Kim Bodnia and is an adaptation of BBC journalist Maziar Bahari’s memoir Then They Came for Me.  Bahari, who was born in Tehran, went to Iran in 2009 to interview Mir-Hossein Moussavi, but was arrested by the Revolutionary Guard and then interrogated and beaten for 118 days by a man known only as “Rosewater.”  Stewart had a personal connection to the story, as Bahari’s previous Daily Show appearance was used as “evidence” that he was a spy.  This has been high on my most anticipated list for some time, and I’m extremely eager to see what Stewart has put together when the film screens at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Hit the jump to check out the new Rosewater images.  The film will likely make its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival before screening at TIFF, and is scheduled to open in theaters on November 7th.

Sigourney Weaver Brings “Va-Va-Voom” to Ancient Egypt in New EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS Images

20th Century Fox has released a couple of new Exodus: Gods and Kings images from director Ridley Scott’s Biblical epic.  One of these new images gives us a closer look at Sigourney Weaver, who plays Tuya, the mother of Joel Edgerton’s Ramses.  Costume designer Janty Yates tells EW that Scott wanted the character to be “va-va-voom,” likening her to Jessica Rabbit—a woman on the prowl.  It’s a curious choice for the Biblical epic, though the rest of the cast is a bit stylized as well, with Edgerton and Christian Bale’s Moses both wearing their fair share of eyeliner.

Hit the jump to check out the Exodus: Gods and Kings images and to see what Bale had to say about taking on what he describes as one of the most fascinating characters he’s ever studied.  Exodus: Gods and Kings opens in theaters on December 5th.

OPEN WINDOWS Trailer and Images: Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey Get Caught Up in the Web

Timecrimes and V/H/S: Viral director Nacho Vigalondo has returned with the voyeuristic  thriller Open Windows, which stars Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey in a fan-stalks-celebrity game of cat and mouse that seems to be spurred on by a faceless psychopath.  Vigalondo has always been an interesting director, so I’m eager to check this one out (you can also read Perri’s review of the film out of SXSW).

This brief theatrical trailer adds a kinetic quality to the material that seemed to be missing from the promotional materials thus far.  I’m hoping the movie lives up to it because, from the looks of this, it could actually be pretty satirical and fun.  Hit the jump for the Open Windows trailer and images.  Cinedigm releases the film on VOD and Digital Download on October 2nd with a limited theatrical run scheduled for November 7th.

R.J. Cutler’s adaptation of Gayle Forman’s If I Stay is getting closer to that August 22nd theatrical debut, so Warner Bros. just released a slew of high-resolution stills and behind-the-scenes shots from the film.  The movie stars Chloe Moretz as Mia Hall, a talented musician whose hopes and dreams are decimated by a terrible accident.  I haven’t read the book, but based on the film’s promo materials, this one looks to be a serious tearjerker, possibly on par with Josh Boone’s The Fault in Our Stars.

You can check out eight clips from If I Stay right here, and hit the jump to take a look at those images covering the happier times in Mia’s life and a bunch that clearly come from the post-accident portion of the film as well.  If I Stay also stars Jamie BlackleyMireille EnosLiana LiberatoJoshua Leonard and Stacy Keach.

First THE WALK Images Reveal Joseph Gordon-Levitt as High-Wire Walker Philippe Petit in Robert Zemeckis’ 3D Drama

by     Posted 22 days ago

Sony Pictures has released the first The Walk images from director Robert Zemeckis’ 3D film about high-wire walker Philippe Petit.  You may be familiar with Petit from the universally acclaimed documentary Man on Wire (currently available on Netflix), which recounted his daring, illegal 1974 tightrope walk between the twin towers of the World Trade Center.  Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Petit in Zemeckis’ film, which dramatically recounts Petit’s act in what producer Tom Rothman describes to USA Today as “Gravity meets Ocean’s Eleven.”  Indeed, the heist aspect of Petit’s story is quite thrilling, and I’m eager to see what Zemeckis’ trademark blend of boundary-pushing visuals and human-centric storytelling brings to Petit’s beautiful piece.

Hit the jump to check out the first The Walk images, now in high-resolution.  The film also stars Charlotte Le Bon, Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz, Clément Sibony and César DomboyThe Walk opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on October 2, 2015.

25 High-Resolution TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Images Featuring Megan Fox, Splinter, Shredder, and More

In anticipation of the film’s release this weekend, Paramount Pictures has unveiled a batch of high-resolution Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles images from director Jonathan Liebesman’s upcoming adaptation.  The film has ellicited skepticism from a fair amount of Turtles fans, and from the trailers the pic looks to be caught between a younger-skewing, humorous tone and the more “gritty”, Transformers-esque action.  If Liebesman keeps the titular Turtles light and funny, I think the pic could end up being a solid adventure film for young teens.  Until its release, these new images provide us with a better look at the CG rendering of said Turtles, as well as the villainous Shredder, mentor Splinter, and the film’s human characters.

Hit the jump to take a look at the high-resolution Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles images, and if you missed any of Perri’s set visit coverage, be sure to check out her full set visit report and on-set interview with Megan Fox and Will Arnett.  The film also stars William Fichtner and the voices of Johnny Knoxville and Tony ShalhoubTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens in theaters on August 8th.

First Images From Jon Stewart’s ROSEWATER Convey Film’s Bleak Tone

rosewater-images

Yesterday Jon Stewart’s directorial debut Rosewater got a release date and now we have a look at the first images released from the film.  If anyone was expecting a comedy, this definitely isn’t one.  Written and directed by Stewart, the film stars Gael Garcia Bernal and is an adaptation of BBC journalist Maziar Bahari‘s memoir, Then They Came for Me.  Bahari, who was born in Tehran, went to Iran in 2009 to interview Mir-Hossein Moussavi, but was arrested by the Revolutionary Guard, and then interrogated and beaten for 118 days by a man known only as “Rosewater”.  Stewart had a personal connection to the story as Bahari’s previous The Daily Show appearance was used as “evidence” that he was a spy.

I’m eager to see Rosewater, not just for the subject matter but out of personal curiosity to see if Stewart has directing chops.  He puts a lot of care into what he does (and is good at admitting past mistakes like Playing By Heart), so I’m confident his compass was true when he chose to take this on.  Hit the jump for the Rosewater images.  Open Road releases the film on November 7th.
