The first trailer for the tumultuous, horror love story Jack and Diane has been released.  The film stars Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises) and Riley Keough (The Runaways) as two teenage girls who fall passionately in love and must come to terms with the ramifications of their feelings (ie. the affair causes changes in one of the girls’ body).  Judging solely from the trailer, the film seems to have a bit of a “Like Crazy on acid” vibe.  The handheld, intimate scenes between Temple and Keough are intercut with animated sequences that are apparently revealing what’s happening in Keough’s character’s body.  I’m fairly certain I saw a braid of hair twist around her insides, which I can only assume is a bad thing.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Directed by Bradley Rust Gray, the film also stars Cara Seymour and Kylie MinogueJack and Diane will be available on iTunes starting September 28th, and hits theaters on November 2nd.

Jena Malone to Play Author Carson McCullers in LONELY HUNTER

Underrated actress Jena Malone (Sucker Punch) is set to play southern author Carson McCullers in the biopic Lonely Hunter.  Written, produced, and directed by Deborah Kampmeier, the film will span 35 years of McCullers’ life and show how her writing helped her cope with crippling illness and torrid marriages.  Lonely Hunter will also “feature notable figures including her best friend Tennessee Williams, her protégé Truman Capote, her roommate Gypsy Rose Lee and collaborator Ethel Waters,” so start your fan-casting!  This all sounds well and good, but I hope there’s a moment where McCullers looks directly into the camera and apologizes for the god-awful The Member of the Wedding.  If you’re thirteen and want to kill your love of reading for a solid year, pick up that novel.

Hit the jump for the full press release.  Malone’s other upcoming films include the love story Jack and Diane with Juno Temple, the indie drama For Ellen with Paul Dano, and The Wait with Chloe Sevigny.  Filming on Lonely Hunter is set to begin in spring 2012.

We’ve got a couple of acquisition stories for you today. First up, CBS Films has acquired US distribution rights to the ghost thriller The Woman in Black. Starring Daniel Radcliffe, the film is based on the classic ghost story by Susan Hill that centers on a young lawyer visiting a remote English town that holds many ghostly secrets (there are presumably ghosts as well, judging by the creepy trailer). Deadline reports that Magnolia beat out other heavyweight bidders including The Weinstein Company and Summit. Currently no US release date is set.

Additionally, Magnolia has picked up the worldwide rights to Jack and Diane. The film stars Juno Temple (Atonement), Riley Keough (The Runaways), Kylie Minogue, and Cara Seymour (An Education). Written and directed by Bradley Rust Gray, the wholly original flick (which features animation and creature effects work) tells the story of a passionate love affair between two teenage girls in New York City. Hit the jump for a synopsis of both The Woman in Black and Jack and Diane.

Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens Jamie Chung Interview SUCKER PUNCH slice

With director Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch opening this weekend, I got to sit down with most of the cast to talk about the film.  As the synopsis says, Sucker Punch is an “epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary.” The film stars Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Scott Glenn, and Oscar Isaac.

During my interview with Malone, Hudgens and Chung, we talked about how everyone bonded off set when they were filming in Vancouver, the training and lack of sweets and soda on set, deleted scenes, future projects like The Hangover 2, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and Jack and Diane, and we also talked about doing karaoke (they told a great story).  Hit the jump to watch and look for a new video interview for Sucker Punch everyday this week.
