Summit Entertainment has released a new theatrical trailer for The Divergent Series: Insurgent, the second in what will be a four-film adaptation of author Veronica Roth’s dystopian sci-fi series.  The Divergent sequel finds the principal characters on the run in the fringes of society and searching for answers after breaking open the world as they knew it.  To be honest, I have no earthly idea what the hell is going in in this Insurgent trailer, but this new installment does have come compelling visuals and interesting concepts at play.  Though this is the most stiff I have ever seen the normally vibrant Winslet.

Watch the new Insurgent trailer, check out a new poster, and new images for the film after the jump.  The film stars Shailene Woodley, Theo JamesAnsel Elgort, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Daniel Dae Kim, Maggie Q, Ray Stevenson, and Zoe Kravitz.  The Divergent Series: Insurgent opens on March 20, 2015.

First TERMINATOR: GENISYS Trailer and New Poster Reboot a Franchise and Resurrect Arnold Schwarzenegger

Paramount has released the first Terminator Genisys trailer for director Alan Taylor‘s (Thor: The Dark World) new entry in the franchise. The story begins just like the original, as future John Connor (Jason Clarke) in a war-ravaged 2029 sends his loyal soldier, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to save his mother (Emilia Clarke) from a Terminator programmed to kill her.  What he finds on the other side, however, is not what he expected.  Indeed, this debut trailer follows this same trajectory, as it begins as a simple remake of The Terminator that shows more of the future-set side of the story before jumping into a very different 1984.  There’s not really anything too blatantly offensive or bad in this trailer, but the whole thing just feels very ho-hum.  I’m not really getting the sense that this new story is particularly compelling or even all that interesting, and even the big action money shots are sorta “Oh yeah, some CG effects.  Neat.”  I’d like nothing more than to be pleasantly surprised, but this introduction to Genisys isn’t particularly promising.

Hit the jump to watch the first Terminator Genisys trailer and to check out a new poster. The film also stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Matt Smith, Byung-hun Lee, Dayo Okeniyi, Courtney B. Vance, and J.K. Simmons. Terminator Genisys opens in theaters on July 1, 2015.

TERMINATOR GENISYS Trailer Teaser Reveals First Footage Ahead of Tomorrow’s Full Trailer Debut

Paramount has released the first Terminator Genisys trailer teaser for director Alan Taylor‘s (Thor: The Dark World) new entry in the franchise, ahead of tomorrow’s debut of the full-length trailer.  The story begins just like the original film, as future John Connor (Jason Clarke) in a war-ravaged 2029 sends his loyal soldier, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to save his mother (Emilia Clarke) from a Terminator programmed to kill her.  What he finds on the other side, however, is not what he expected.  This new “trailer teaser” trend is certainly annoying, but the shots that Paramount chose to unveil from the trailer today are certainly curious.  I was already getting a Back to the Future Part II vibe from the plot details, and this footage seems to suggest that Genisys is revisiting not only The Terminator, but also Terminator 2.

Hit the jump to watch the first Terminator Genisys trailer teaser, and check back tomorrow for the full-length debut trailer.  The film also stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dayo Okeniyi, Courtney B. Vance, Matt Smith, Byung-hun Lee, and J. K. SimmonsTerminator Genisys opens in theaters on July 1, 2015.

After a couple months of negotiations and intriguing possibilities, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed its Suicide Squad movie cast, which includes Jared Leto playing a new incarnation of The Joker.  Written and directed by Fury filmmaker David Ayer, Suicide Squad revolves around a team of supervillains who work for the U.S. government, undertaking dangerous black ops missions in exchange for commuted prison sentences.  We’ve heard a number of A-list names mentioned in connection to roles in the DC Comics adaptation over the past few weeks, and somewhat surprisingly, every single one of them has panned out.  Find out who Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevinge are officially playing in Suicide Squad after the jump, as well as who Warner Bros. is eyeing to the fill the film’s antagonist role.

New UNBROKEN Images Reveal a Stranded and Starved Jack O’Connell and Domhnall Gleeson

Fresh off the first reviews starting to trickle out, Universal has released a collection of new Unbroken images from director Angelina Jolie’s adaptation of the bestselling non-fiction book that show the physical transformation of the principal cast.  The film tells the true story of Louis Zamperini (Jack O’Connell), a former Olympian and WWII bombardier whose plane crashed at sea in 1943.  Zamperini and two crewmates floated adrift for 47 days and 2000 miles, eventually finding themselves caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a POW camp where Zamperini was targeted by a sadistic overseer.  While the initial reviews are somewhat positive, there are some reservations about Jolie’s execution of the story and handling of Zamperini’s arc; this doesn’t appear to be the be-all, end-all Oscar heavyweight that some were predicting.  Regardless, Zamperini’s story is undeniably incredible and I’m very much looking forward to seeing how it’s portrayed onscreen.

Check out the new Unbroken images after the jump.  The film also stars Miyavi, Domhnall Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund, Finn Wittrock, Jai Courtney, and Alex RussellUnbroken opens in theaters on December 25th.

SUICIDE SQUAD Will Shoot in Toronto from April to September 2015; Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Jared Leto in Final Talks to Star

While production is winding down on the second DC Comics adaption in Warner Bros.’ new interconnected universe of superhero movies, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the studio is gearing up to get the cameras rolling on the next pic after BvS, Fury director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.  The story revolves around a team of supervillains who work for the U.S. government, undertaking dangerous black ops missions in exchange for commuted prison sentences.  It’s actually a pretty logical decision to place Suicide Squad so early in the DC Movie lineup, as audiences will get to know a number of the big villains before they face off against the heroes in later films.

Warner Bros. has been putting together an incredibly impressive cast that includes Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Jared Leto, and possibly Will Smith, and now we have firm details on when and where the Suicide Squad movie will start production.  More after the jump.

Jai Courtney in Talks to Play Deadshot in SUICIDE SQUAD; Will Smith May Be Playing Captain Boomerang

It seemed as though the packed nature of the cast for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was a one-time thing, an easy way of introducing a large ensemble of DC Comics characters before focusing on smaller casts in subsequent films.  But that may not be the case exactly.  Over the past few months, the studio has been putting together the ensemble for Suicide Squad, the supervillain-filled DC Comics adaptation that will arrive in August 2016 after BvS opens the previous March, and it’s looking pretty stacked with talent already.  Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Margot Robbie are all in various stages of negotiations, with Robbie poised to play Harley Quinn and Jesse Eisenberg potentially set to appear as Lex Luthor, and we recently learned that Jared Leto is also in talks to play The Joker.

Now we know who Warner Bros. is looking at to play the Batman villain Deadshot, and it’s none other than Jai Courtney.  More after the jump, including which characters Smith and Hardy may be playing.

THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT Trailer: Shailene Woodley Defies Reality and Rides a Flying Building

When the first film of a franchise scores $152.5 million opening weekend like The Hunger Games, the sequel is basically a guaranteed hit.  Even if the numbers do drop, it’s still bound to take big money to the bank.  On the other hand, the second Divergent film, Insurgent, is going to have its work cut out for it if it’s going to match the first film’s $54.6 million start and justify the studio’s decision to stretch the final book of the trilogy into two films.

I hoped the first bit of promo material from Insurgent would be something to ease fans back into the world and possibly even pull in newcomers. However, not only does this teaser trailer feel nothing like the original film, but it’s also highly unlikely that anyone who isn’t familiar with the first film or the books will have any idea of what’s going on.  Hit the jump to check out the Divergent Series: Insurgent trailer for yourself.  The film stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate WinsletOctavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Miles Teller, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Maggie Q, Zoe Kravitz, Daniel Dae Kim, and Suki WaterhouseThe Divergent Series: Insurgent opens in theaters on March 20, 2015.

First Look at TERMINATOR: GENYSIS Provides Images of the Characters Plus Plot Details; Sarah Connor “Orphaned by a Terminator”

The Terminator franchise has now been going for thirty years, and it’s going to need a reboot of sorts if it plans to stay alive.  Personally, I’d be fine letting lay fallow or never coming back to it again since every sequel diminishes the ending of T2 (“We might have saved the world!”; “Nope.  No you didn’t.  In no way what so ever.”)  But as the cover of EW proclaims, Terminator: Genisys (spelling is for nerds) is trying to “save a billion-dollar franchise.”  And how do you go about that?  With a character description that will have you scratching your head.

Hit the jump to learn more about the movie and to check out the Terminator: Genisys images from EW, which provide a first look at the characters.  The film opens July 1, 2015 and stars Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Matt Smith, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.

Jai Courtney Calls TERMINATOR: GENISYS a “Reset” for the Franchise; Says You Don’t Have to Have Seen the Previous Films to Understand It

Terminator-Genesis-sequels-Jai-Courtney-interview

Much has already been said about the nature of the upcoming Terminator film, Terminator: Genisys as it relates to the franchise as a whole.  It features new actors playing the already existing roles of Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney), John Connor (Jason Clarke), and Danny Dyson (Dayo Okeniyi), but it also features the return of Arnold Schwarzengger as the titular machine.  It has previously been described as not exactly a reboot but not necessarily a sequel either, and one imagines it involves a heavy amount of time travel given the age of John Connor.

Steve recently spoke with actor Jai Courtney in anticipation of his upcoming film Felony, and the discussion turned to Terminator.  Courtney said he’d actually describe the film as a “reset”, adding that if someone hasn’t seen the first two Terminator films they wouldn’t be completely lost when watching Genisys.  Additionally, the actor discussed the prospect of reprising his role in future sequels.  See what he had to say after the jump.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS Will Probably Be Rated PG-13; Not a Sequel or a Reboot

terminator-genisys-rating-details

Paramount Pictures is already feeling pretty bullish on its new Terminator film, Terminator: Genisys (that subtitle is still idiotic), as they recently staked out release dates for two sequels to drop in 2017 and 2018, with the plan to shoot them back-to-back.  We still know very little about the nature of Genisys (*shudder*), but we do know that the lead actors are playing Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney), John Connor (Jason Clarke), and Danny Dyson (Dayo Okeniyi) under the direction of Thor: The Dark World helmer Alan Taylor.  Oh yeah, and Arnold Schwarzenegger is back.

Courtney recently spoke a bit about the film, revealing that the Terminator: Genisys rating will most likely be PG-13 and describing it as not exactly a reboot but not exactly a sequel either.  Read on after the jump.

THE WATER DIVINER Trailer and Poster: Russell Crowe Directs and Stars in Australian World War I Drama

The first The Water Diviner trailer and poster have been released for Russell Crowe’s feature directorial debut.  The story centers on an Australian man (Crowe) who travels to Turkey in an attempt to discover the fate of his three sons, who were fighting in World War I.  While I was afraid the film might feel a bit like a vanity project, this trailer is actually pretty good.  There are surprisingly few films that revolve around the horrors of The Great War, and this Australia-focused story provides an interesting point of view for what was truly a World war.  Crowe appears to be pretty confident behind the camera, and he’s filled his cast out with plenty of Australian actors.  Color me intrigued.

Hit the jump to check out the Water Diviner trailer and poster.  The film also stars Olga Kurylenko, Jai Courtney, Yilmaz Erdogan, Cem Yilmaz, Steve Bastoni, Isabel Lucas, Ryan Corr, Dan Wyllie, Damon Herriman, Jacqueline McKenzie, Michael Dorman, Megan Gale, and Dylan GeorgiadesThe Water Diviner opens in Australia and New Zealand on December 26th.

DIVERGENT Sequel INSURGENT Begins Filming in Atlanta

Lionsgate has announced that the Divergent sequel Insurgent has begun production in Atlanta, barreling towards the film’s March 20, 2015 release date.  That’s a rather quick turnaround for the futuristic thriller since Divergent only just opened in theaters this past March, and especially given that director Robert Schwentke (Red) has only been on the project for a couple of months.  Schwentke takes over directorial duties from Neil Burger, who was too busy completing post-production on Divergent to be able to prep and shoot Insurgent in the allotted time.

Hit the jump for more on Insurgent, including the full press release and official synopsis.  The film stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Jai Courtney, Mekhi Phifer, and Maggie Q.
