With Chris Pratt now set in the lead role of Star-Lord, it looks like casting is moving right along on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.  Writer/director James Gunn has now posted up in London to continue pre-production on the film with shooting set to begin in a couple of months, and now a new report has surfaced claiming that Gunn and Marvel have settled on the actor that will play Drax the Destroyer.  The character is one of brawn, and he actually began life as a human before his family was attacked and killed by the ubervillain Thanos, after which his spirit was placed in a new, much more powerful body.  Rumor has it that none other than Khal Drogo himself, Jason Momoa, will bring Drax to life.  Hit the jump to read on. Even though we’re nearly three months removed from Halloween, I want to use this week’s opening paragraph to throw some support behind director Michael Stephenson‘s touching documentary, The American Scream. I recently caught the film via Netflix where it’s available to “Watch Instantly” and I was impressed to say the least. Stephenson’s previous entry, the indelible Best Worst Movie, quickly became one of my all-time favorite docs for the unexpected emotional punch it packed in following the lives of those impacted by Troll 2. Scream delivered on a similar level with its themes of family, community, and the pursuit of one’s passion (in this case, home haunting). If you haven’t seen it already, I recommend either checking it out on Netflix or picking up a copy for yourself from the film’s website.

All recommendations aside, much to the surprise of no one, this week’s Top 5 is headlined by the announcement that J.J. Abrams will direct/produce Star Wars: Episode VII with accompaniment by our Bullet to the Head set visit, Warm Bodies video interviews with Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer and more, a G.I. Joe: Retaliation set visit preview and interviews with director Jon M. Chu and more, and all of our coverage out of Sundance 2013 to date. If you enjoyed watching Jason Momoa kick ass as the warlord Khal Drogo on HBO’s awesome series Game of Thrones, you’ll probably want to check out Bullet to the Head.  In director Walter Hill’s action flick, Momoa plays a mercenary who really enjoys killing.  During a group interview on the New Orleans set, Momoa described his character as an, “evil sadistic bastard who likes to shoot people in the head.”  In addition, Momoa also talked about getting to fight Sylvester Stallone with an ax, how he prepared for the role, the way the action compares to his previous projects, and a lot more.  Hit the jump for what he had to say.

Warner Bros. has released a batch of high-resolution images from director Walter Hill’s upcoming action-thriller Bullet to the Head.  The graphic novel adaptation stars Sylvester Stallone as Jimmy Bobo, a New Orleans hitman who teams up with a New York City cop (Sung Kang) to bring down the killers of their respective partners.  These images show off plenty of Stallone toughness, as well as looks at supporting players Christian Slater, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Sarah Shahi, Jon Seda, and of course Jason Momoa.

Walter Hill’s Bullet to the Head has already released a few trailers for the film, but a slew of new images have just been made available online. The graphic novel adaptation stars Sylvester Stallone as Jimmy Bobo, a New Orleans hitman who teams up with a New York City cop (Sung Kang) to bring down the killers of their respective partners. The new images feature plenty of shots of Stallone and Kang, along with a bloodied-up Christian Slater. Also starring Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jason Momoa and Sarah Shahi,  Bullet to the Head is set to debut in theaters on February 1, 2013. The first images and synopsis for Wolves are now available.  David Hayter (X-Men, X2 writer) makes his directorial debut in this clash of werewolf clans starring Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) and Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class). Till stars as Cayden Richards, an 18-year-old who runs away from his perfect life when he turns into a werewolf and slaughters his family. Cayden makes it to the town of Lupine Ridge, where the alpha-wolf Connor and the aging John Tollerman vie for control.

Steve recently had the opportunity to interview make-up supervisor Dave Elsey (X-Men: First Class) who will also be working on Wolves; he calls it “very violent and bloody.” Wolves is currently filming. Hit the jump to see the images and read the synopsis.

It’s been over a month since the first trailer for writer/director Walter Hill’s Bullet to the Head dropped.  Now we have a new look at Sylvester Stallone, Sung Kang and Jason Momoa in this new international trailer.  The tone is the same, but there are some new one-liners delivered by Stallone, accompanied by a more contemporary (and fitting) track by Motorhead.  The international trailer is paced a bit better, but if you liked what you saw in the first cut then you’ll be pleased with the follow up.  Bullet to the Head, also starring Christian Slater, Sarah Shahi and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, opens February 1st, 2013.  Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.

Everyone loves a villain, especially when those villains are played by Adrien Brody (Predators) and Jason Momoa (Conan the Barbarian). Brody is in talks to antagonize Gerard Butler (300) in Motor City, a revenge thriller scripted by Chad St. John (The Punisher: Dirty Laundry) and directed by Albert Hughes (Fro Hell).  Momoa will star in Wolves, the directorial debut of David Hayter, the writer of 2000′s X-Men. The supernatural flick has Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) going up against Momoa in a battle of werewolves (Good luck, Till).  Hit the jump for more on both pictures.

Apparently it’s “old guys doing action things” week here at Collider.  The geriatric throwdown The Expendables 2 opens this Friday, we just saw the first trailer for the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starrer The Last Stand, and now the first trailer for Bullet to the Head with Sylvester Stallone has landed online.  Directed by Walter Hill (48 Hrs.) and based on the graphic novel of the same name, Stallone plays a New Orleans hitman who teams up with a New York City cop (Sung Kang) to take on the killers of their respective partners.  I really wanted to see something special from the Stallone/Hill team-up, but this trailer doesn’t exactly inspire much confidence.  The jokes are tired (Stallone thinks Kang fits every Asian stereotype, Kang thinks Stallone is old) and Stallone seems to be taking things a bit too seriously.  I’d love nothing more than to be pleasantly surprised, so here’s hoping the finished film delivers the goods.

HBO’s Game of Thrones comes at an interesting time in geekdom, and its success speaks to the barriers that have been broken. Though fantasy and science fiction have often been popular cinematically, on television it’s been stuck in a Stargate-esque ghetto. But now we’ve got one of the most thoughtful shows currently on air on one of the most prestigious networks that also happens to be about dragons and swordplay. Perhaps the better arbiter of what crosses over to the mainstream and what doesn’t is quality, and Game of Thrones is definitely an engrossing show even for those who’ve never picked up a twenty sided die. Sean Bean, Lena Headey, Mark Addy and Peter Dinklage lead a mostly British cast in a tale about warring families in a fantastical middle age. Our review of Game of Thrones on DVD follows after the jump.

Sylvester Stallone is single-handedly trying to resurrect good old fashioned kick-ass action movies. He literally pushed himself to the breaking point on The Expendables and reprised his most famous roles in the films Rocky Balboa and Rambo. Now, Stallone is venturing into new territory with the graphic novel adaptation, Bullet to the Head, and it looks like he’ll be overseeing the final cut of the film. It was recently reported that Warner Bros. had erased the film from its April 13th release date without providing any information as to why or updating it with a new release. Sources now point to a November release date for the film due to Stallone needing the additional time to approve a final cut. Bullet to the Head follows a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) who teams up with a New York cop (Sung Kang of Fast Five) to track down the killers of their respective partners.
