James Franco appears driven to do everything.  Recently, he produced the indie sex documentary Kink, co-directed Interior. Leather Bar, which is about the deleted 40 minutes from William Friedkin‘s controversial film Cruising, and he’s co-starring in the biopic Lovelace starring Amanda Seyfried.  All three movies are premiering at Sundance, and Franco is currently gearing up more work.  Deadline reports that the actor/director/producer/probably-craft-services-worker is set to lead and direct Beautiful People.  The biopic centers on 1960s playboy and hairstylist to the stars Jay Sebring.  Per Deadline, “The film charts the rise of Sebring as a self-created men’s grooming pioneer, as he climbed the social ladder in Hollywood during the 60s. There is also a focus on his romantic relationship with the beautiful young actress Sharon Tate.” It’s worth noting that at the time, Tate was married to Roman Polanski and pregnant with their child.  I’m curious to see if Beautiful People will also include Sebring’s tragic end as one of the victims of the Manson Family (Tate was also a victim of the quadruple-homicide).  I don’t see why Franco would avoid it.

Franco recently completed his adaptations of William Faulkner‘s As I Lay Dying and Cormac McCarthy‘s Child of God.  He’ll next be seen in wide release in Harmony Korine‘s Spring Breakers, which opens March 22nd.  Click here to check out the trailer.
