The KICKBOXER Remake Casts Gina Carano as a Fight Promoter

by     Posted 11 days ago

Last week we learned the joyous news that Jean-Claude Van Damme had been cast in the Kickboxer remake.  The movie has quite a cast, many of them drawn from the world of martial arts.  Stunt man/martial artist Alain Moussi (X-Men: Days of Future Past) is playing the lead (Van Damme is playing more of a mentor this time out) alongside George St. Pierre (Bartoc from Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and Dave Bautista (Riddick, Guardians of the Galaxy).

And now we’ve got word that MMA fighter and Haywire star Gina Carano has joined the film.  Hit the jump for more details on her role, which is something of a break from the archetype one might expect her to play.  The Kickboxer remake is currently shooting in New Orleans before moving onto Thailand.  John Stockwell is directing.

KICKBOXER Remake Does the Right Thing and Hires Jean-Claude Van Damme Himself; Starts Shooting This Week

by     Posted 18 days ago

A few months we began to get some casting news in regard to the Kickboxer remake.  Stunt man/martial artist Alain Moussi (X-Men: Days of Future Past) was onboard to play the lead alongside George St. Pierre (Bartoc from Captain America: The Winter Soldier)  and Dave Bautista (Riddick, Guardians of the Galaxy).  They were to be joined by Scott Adkins (Zero Dark Thirty) and Tony Jaa (Fast & Furious 7).  The Kickboxer remake was to follow Kurt Sloan (Moussi), a talented martial artist who travels to Thailand where he must learn the secrets of the kickboxer to avenge his brother’s death at the hands of Tong Po (Bautista).

All of that stuff remains the same.  Well, except for Jaa.  Why?  He’s fallen out of the picture and mother*cking Jean-Claude Van Damme has taken his place!  That’s right, JCVD is back for the Kickboxer remake.  But not in the same role he portrayed in the 1989 original.  John Stockwell will direct the film, which starts shooting this week in New Orleans before moving onto Thailand.  Hit the jump for more.

If you’ve always wanted to see Jean-Claude Van Damme as a French-Canadian Mountie/vegan drug-dealer, then Enemies Closer is the incredibly specific movie for you!  It’s a must-see film, not because it’s that great, but because it’s about as crazy a role as JCVD has ever played.  His one-liners are amazing, his antics are worth the price of purchase, and that hair just never quits.  Tom Everett Scott and Orlando Jones also star in the Peter Hyams-directed action thriller that’s available now on DVD and Blu-ray.  Hit the jump for my Enemies Closer Blu-ray review.

Collider is happy to host an exclusive clip from director Peter Hyams’ action-thriller Enemies Closer.  Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, the story centers on a missing drug shipment lost on the U.S.-Canada border, and a forest ranger and former Navy SEAL who is forced to retrieve it by a ruthless cartel.  An additional threat crops up in the wilderness as the ranger encounters a long-lost nemesis, someone he’s forced to work with in order to escape the cartel’s deadly grasp.

Also starring Orlando Jones and Tom Everett Scott, Enemies Closer is available On-Demand and in theaters starting January 24th.  Hit the jump to watch the clip.

Channing Tatum Performs Unprofessional Stunt on Set of 22 JUMP STREET

by     Posted 1 year, 30 days ago

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are currently filming their comedy sequel, 22 Jump Street, and if this new set video is any indication, they’re really upping the danger of the stunts.  Co-star Channing Tatum recently tweeted this behind-the-scenes video of one such stunt that pays homage to Jean Claude Van Damme’s legendary flexibility.  Jenko’s got some stretchin’ to do if he wants to compete with the Muscles from Brussels.

Also starring Jonah Hill, Ice Cube, Wyatt Russell and Jimmy Tatro, 22 Jump Street is due out June 13, 2014.  Hit the jump to watch the stunt.

TOP 5: Comic-Con 2013, THE WOLVERINE, New Trailers for GRAVITY, KICKBOXER and BLOODSPORT Remakes in the Works, TIFF 2013 Line-Up Announced

by     Posted 1 year, 145 days ago

Having taken a couple weeks off for the summer and the content-generating machine that is San Diego Comic-Con, I kind of feel like there’s so much to share that I’m not sure where to start. I suppose at the top is the most logical choice and, for me, that spot is occupied by director James Wan‘s fantastic The Conjuring. Alongside The Cabin in the WoodsThe Conjuring stands as some of the most fun I can remember having in a theater with a horror film. It’s terrifying, tense, and awesome to enjoy amongst a crowded theater that’s on edge to the point that so much as an on-screen crayon rolling across the floor is cause for clenched fists and covered eyes. If you’ve yet to check it out, convince someone you think will appreciate being scared to death to tag along with you and enjoy the ride.

My recommendation aside, this week’s glorious return of the Top 5 includes a ridiculous amount of Comic-Con 2013 coverage, The Wolverine interviews with Hugh Jackman and more, new trailers for Alfonso Cuaron‘s Gravity, news of JCVD essentials Kickboxer and Bloodsport getting the remake treatment, and the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival line-up announcement. It’s been a couple weeks, but I trust you know what lies after the jump.

Fans of the original action hero mash-up The Expendables are in for higher stakes, twice the explosions and more grizzled cast members in The Expendables 2, now available on Blu-ray. While the sequel managed to top the experience of the first film, the Blu-ray has plenty of extras to keep fans busy, including a commentary track by director Simon West (Con Air) that provides a lot of behind-the-scenes info. Want to know what weapons the Expendables used? Want to know how much bigger the sequel could have been? Want to see the real life Expendables the movie characters referenced? Well then hit the jump for my review of The Expendables 2 on Blu-ray.

A new red-band trailer has gone online for writer/director John Hyams’ Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoningstarring Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van DammeScott Adkins and Andrei Arlovski. This trailer leans heavily on the psychological mind-fuckery that comes with being turned into a universal soldier, but it’s equally focused on the action as well.  The only downside is the intermittent blasts of seizure-inducing strobes that flicker over cast intros or quotes from movie sites.  If you can get through that without experiencing an epileptic event, then you’ll be sure to enjoy the brutality of this red-band trailer.  Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is available On Demand starting October 25th with a theatrical release on November 30th.  Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.

Exclusive Poster for THE EXPENDABLES 2 Adds Muscle to “The Last Supper”

by     Posted 2 years, 137 days ago

If action movies of the 80s and 90s are my religion, then The Expendables 2 just gave me my last rites.  Lionsgate is letting us premiere a new poster that features the entire kick-ass cast assembled along one of the most famous tables in artistic history.  While scholars have deciphered Da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper” for centuries, the companion image from The Expendables 2 is more my style, complete with guns, skulls and plenty of booze.

Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins and Yu Nan star in the sequel to Stallone’s bone-breaking 2010 original film.  Directed by Simon West, The Expendables 2 opens August 17th.  Hit the jump to see the exclusive poster.

New Behind-the-Scenes Featurette for THE EXPENDABLES 2

by     Posted 2 years, 144 days ago

Lionsgate has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for The Expendables 2.  The new film has Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and his gang of mercenaries out for revenge, and also having to deal with a baddie (Jean-Claude Van Damme) who wants some weapons-grade plutonium.  This featurette isn’t going to change anyone’s anticipation for the flick one way or the other, but I do like the emphasis on practical effects and trying to offer a break from CGI-heavy action (although you will also notice green screens in this featurette).

Hit the jump to check out the featurette.  The film also stars Jason Statham, Yu Nan, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Bruce Willis, and Arnold SchwarzeneggerThe Expendables 2 opens on August 17th.

Comic-Con: THE EXPENDABLES 2 Panel; Arnold Schwarzenegger Talks Terry Crews’ Muscles and Confirms TWINS Sequel

by     Posted 2 years, 159 days ago

The Expendables 2, the Simon West-directed sequel to The Expendables, appeared at the end of the opening day of Comic-Con 2012.  They opened the panel with the previously released trailer for the film, before Sylvester Stallone himself took the stage (to a “Rocky, Rocky!” chant).  He was soon joined by other members of his cast, setting the Guinness world record for most testosterone ever on stage at one time.  The Expendables 2, also starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, Liam Hemsworth, Terry Crews, Jean Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins, Charisma Carpenter, Yu Nan and Randy Couture opens August 17th.  Hit the jump to check out the rest of the panel and make sure to click here for all of our continuing Comic-Con coverage.

Comic-Con Poster for THE EXPENDABLES 2 Picks up an 80s Action Vibe

by     Posted 2 years, 161 days ago

We previously showed you Comic-Con exclusive posters for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Pacific Rim, and now The Expendables 2 is getting in on the action.  More precisely, they’re getting in on the 1980s action.  Since the film’s cast is populated mostly with 80s action stars, it only makes sense that there should a poster that carries an 80s vibe.  If you’re looking forward to the upcoming sequel and are going to be at Comic-Con, you’ll probably want to try and track this down (assuming they’ll be giving out copies).  My advice is to head to the Lionsgate booth (#4035) on the show floor.

Hit the jump to check out the poster.  The film stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold SchwarzeneggerThe Expendables 2 opens August 17th.  The film’s Comic-Con panel will be this Thursday at 4:45pm in Hall H.

New Poster Banner for THE EXPENDABLES 2 Features All the Action Stars

by     Posted 2 years, 164 days ago

A new poster banner for director Simon West’s actioner The Expendables 2 has arrived.  The photoshop-enhanced poster features the all-star cast of aging action heroes all lined up side-by-side, weapons in hand.  Jean-Claude Van Damme is clearly the villain because he’s the only one in the group wearing sunglasses, like an asshole.  The story finds Sylvester Stallone and his crew hell-bent on revenge following the death of one of their own, as they set out to stop Van Damme’s evil plot to blow lots of things up.

Hit the jump to take a gander at the poster, and check back on the site next week for our full recap of the film’s Comic-Con panel.  The film also stars Jason Statham, Yu Nan, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.  The Expendables 2 opens on August 17th.
