Summit Entertainment has released eight character motion posters for Now You See Me. I’ve enjoyed the posters for the film since they’re employing trippy optical illusions that fit in well with the plot about four magicians who use their tricks to rob banks. This looks like a fun movie, and I hope it’s good because it would be a shame to waste a cast that includes Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine, Melanie Laurent, and Morgan Freeman.

The film’s story centers on an FBI squad who is on the heels of a team of bank-robbing magicians who share their profits with the audience. Last weekend I finally had the chance to check out director Rodney Ascher‘s The Shining analysis doc Room 237 on Xbox Live. The film garnered a rave review from Matt when he screened it at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and for the most part I share his enthusiasm for the pic. On one hand, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen and I admire it for that exact reason. The extensive scenic analysis Room 237 employs, the hypnotic score, and its refusal to show the faces of those presenting their theories makes it an absolutely captivating ride that never lets you come up for air. On the other hand, I now have to live the rest of my life looking for Stanley Kubrick‘s airbrushed face in the clouds during The Shining‘s opening scene. And when/if I ever find it, what am I supposed to do with that information? Sigh.
I could go on about the film’s individual parts, but suffice to say that I consider it required viewing for anyone with even a fleeting interest in film analysis, Kubrick, and/or The Shining. And with that I’ll move on to the reason we’re all here. In this week’s Top 5 you’ll have the pleasure of checking out a stellar new trailer and a slew of other assets from Man of Steel, our set visit recap for The Hangover Part III, the first trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, more set visit goodness for Now You See Me, and all of our CinemaCon 2013 coverage. While Jesse Eisenberg has played all sorts of people and characters like Mark Zukerberg, a zombie hunter, an orthodox Jew, a pizza delivery guy, and tons of troubled kids, in Now You See Me, Eisenberg takes on a new challenge: magician. And based on what I’ve seen and learned about the film, he’s going to deliver another great performance.
While on set last year, I got to participate in a group interview with Eisenberg. He talked about why he wanted to be in the project, reuniting with Woody Harrelson, what it’s been like learning the tricks, working with director Louis Leterrier, script changes, and a lot more. Hit the jump for what he had to say.

Summit Entertainment has released a new trailer for Now You See Me. The story centers on a group of magicians who pull off bank heists during their death-defying acts, and the FBI squad tasked with catching them. It appears that Morgan Freeman is tasked with being the expository character as he spends most of this new trailer explaining things, but we do get a closer look at the technical side of the group’s magic tricks in this clip. The premise is admittedly a bit outlandish, but director Louis Letterier (The Incredible Hulk) has put together a great cast and this trailer hammers home the promise that Now You See Me should be a lot of fun.

Twentieth Century Fox has announced their full voice cast list for Rio 2, the sequel to writer/director Carlos Saldanha’s 2011 film. Saldanha returns for the sequel, as do Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Jamie Foxx and wil.i.am, who will each reprise their roles as the Brazilian birds, along with Rodrigo Santoro who will once again be voicing Tulio. New additions to the cast include Andy Garcia, Kristin Chenoweth, singer Bruno Mars, NBC Today Show news anchor and South American native, Natalie Morales and Grammy-winner Janelle Monáe, who will provide original music for the film and also voice a character. Heat Vision also reports that Rio 2 will incorporate Rio’s 2014 FIFA World Cup into its plot. The animated sequel opens April 14, 2014.

Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Kruger, and Emile Hirsch have signed on to star in 1940s drama Midnight Sun. Written and directed by Chris Eigeman (Turn the River; he also starred in Whit Stillman‘s Metropolitan and The Last Days of Disco), the film “follows two young post graduates recruited by the US Government to work on a top-secret project in New Mexico. Along with one of the students’ new wife, they drop their jazz-filled lives in New York and move to a secret community of scientists in the desert.” As everyone knows, desert scientists hate jazz.
According to Screen Daily, shooting is set to begin this summer. Hit the jump for a refresher on the stars’ other projects.

Richard Ayoade‘s directorial debut Submarine was a nice little indie comedy, and now we’re finally getting a look at his follow-up, The Double. Based on the novella by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the film stars Jesse Eisenberg as a government clerk whose life is destroyed after what he believes to be an exact copy of himself begins working in his office and attempts to ruin his life. According to Empire, Ayoade’s dramedy “intends it to reflect on loneliness and our inherent need to love and be loved.” Judging by these images, Ayoade has created a radically different look than what he brought to Submarine, and I’m eager to see the finished film.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The Double also stars Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Rade Serbedzija, James Fox, and Yasmin Paige.

Just yesterday the first trailer for the magician-centered pic Now You See Me was released online, and now a large batch of images from the film have surfaced. The movie follows an FBI squad on the heels of a team of bank-robbing magicians who share their profits with the audience. Directed by Louis Letterier (Clash of the Titans), the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Melanie Laurent, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. The trailer played a bit like a “fun” version of The Prestige with a dash of Ocean’s Eleven thrown in for good measure, and I’m interested to see what the full has in store.
Hit the jump to peruse the images. The film also stars Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Common. Now You See Me opens on June 7, 2013. [Update: We've been asked by the studio to take the images down as they were not part of an official release.]

The first trailer for Now You See Me has been released. The film follows an FBI squad on the heels of a team of bank-robbing magicians who share their profits with the audience. Sounds like Ocean’s Eleven with a magical twist, right? Well, the trailer shows that that’s certainly the case, but the “magic” tricks rely heavily on spectacle and computerized effects, throwing practicality right out the window. So it appears to be more of an action adventure flick with magical elements than any kind of head-scratcher; still could be fun though!
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Directed by Louis Letterier (Clash of the Titans), the film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Melanie Laurent, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. Now You See Me opens on June 7, 2013.

Why Stop Now? tells the bittersweet story of Eli Smith (Jesse Eisenberg), a piano prodigy who, on the day of his audition for a prestigious music program, plans to enter his loving mother (Melissa Leo) into rehab for drug addiction. But, things don’t quite work out as planned and Eli soon finds himself having to work with her drug dealer Sprinkles (Tracy Morgan) while trying to make his own dream come true.
During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Jesse Eisenberg talked about why he was interested in being a part of Why Stop Now?, what made his character so relatable, preparing to do the piano playing himself, getting to work so closely with Melissa Leo, and what surprised him about Tracy Morgan, as a dramatic actor. He also talked about what he’s looking forward to with the animated sequel Rio 2, working with Richard Ayoade on The Double (a comedy about a man who is driven insane by the appearance of his doppleganger), creating the unique world of Now You See Me (a thriller about FBI agents tracking a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances), getting ready to shoot Night Moves (in which he’ll play an eco-terrorist), and being mistaken for Mark Zuckerberg at the Olympics. Check out what he had to say after the jump.
