The sequel to Tron: Legacy looks to be back on track.  Disney has been developing a follow-up to the 2010 Tron sequel for a couple of years now, though movement had slowed considerably as of late.  Apparently new Disney Studios head Alan Horn sees the sequel as a priority, with Heat Vision reporting that Jesse Wigutow being tapped to pen the latest draft of the script as development on the project moves forward “with a renewed urgency.”  Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is set to helm this next installment, though a timetable for production isn’t given.  Kosinski is currently finishing up post-production on the Tom Cruise-led sci-fi pic Oblivion.

Last we heard, David DiGilio was writing a new draft of the script for Tron 3Legacy screenwriters Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz stepped back to a producer role on the follow-up given their commitment to the ABC series Once Upon a Time, which they created and run.  With this “renewed urgency” on the project, we should hear more about the sequel sooner rather than later.

Though it was sad to see Gary Ross leave the Hunger Games franchise after only one film, I was excited to see what the director would choose as his follow-up in the wake of the massive success of that franchise-starter.  He circled a few projects, including the adventure film The Secret Life of Houdini and a Peter Pan prequel called Peter and the Starcatchers, and it now appears that Ross has settled on the latter as his post-Hunger Games directorial project.  Hit the jump for more.

20th Century Fox is looking to schedule a Playdate.  The family-friendly pitch will be written by Tim Hill (Hop) and Dave Johnson, with Hill in line to direct.  Though the plot is being kept quiet at the moment, as Deadline reports, the title is fairly revealing.  The Alvin and the Chipmunks director has a long history of writing for children’s television series (Rocko’s Modern Life, SpongeBob SquarePants) and is set as the director for Dimenson Films’ remake of Short Circuit.

Fans of Peter Pan will want to hit the jump for information regarding the adaptation of the Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson novel series, Peter and the Starcatchers.

Just a day after bringing you the news that The Crow reboot was back on track after The Weinstein Company and Relativity Media settled their respective lawsuits, it looks like the project has a new director and scribe. F. Javier Gutierrez has apparently been tapped to direct and Jesse Wigutow is reportedly making a deal to write the script for the Relativity Media picture. We reported on Gutierrez (Before the Fall) as a possibility back in October, but Wigutow isn’t exactly a household name. He’s set up the war film Irreparable Harm for HBO Films and did a rewrite for Summit’s The Osterman Weekend, itself a reboot for the 1983 Sam Peckinpah-directed adaptation of the Robert Ludlum novel by the same name. As the reboot for The Crow is currently in development, Relativity plans to announce casting, production dates and targeted release dates in the coming weeks. Hit the jump for more.
