STRETCH Trailer: Patrick Wilson Needs $6,000 By Midnight in Joe Carnahan’s Colorful New Film

Since director Joe Carnahan decided to take the marketing into this own hands, we’ve already seen a number of clips, images, and even a gag reel from his new film Stretch.  However, the first official Stretch trailer has now been released online, giving us a better handle on the plot for this colorful, insane-looking action comedy.  The story revolves around a down-on-his-luck chauffeur (Patrick Wilson) who attempts to relieve his debt by driving around a mysterious, eccentric billionaire (James Badge Dale).  As we can see from this trailer, he comes across a number of unusual characters during his service, and things appear to get weirder and weirder as the night wears on.  I loved the introspective nature of Carnahan’s The Grey, but it’s nice to see that he’s still able to have fun with things like this and The Blacklist, and Stretch certainly appears to be a very wild ride indeed.

Watch the Stretch trailer after the jump.  The film also stars Chris Pine, Jessica Alba, Ed Helms, Norman Reedus, Ray Liotta, Shaun Toub, Brooklyn Decker, and David HasselhoffStretch will be available on iTunes and Amazon on October 7th and on VOD on October 14th.

Chris Pine Needs Wilford Brimley’s Mustache in Nutty STRETCH Gag Reel

Director Joe Carnahan’s action-comedy Stretch was one of my most anticipated films of this spring, so I was quite disappointed when Universal decided to abandon the film’s theatrical release plan at the last minute.  Thankfully, the movie is finally set to be released VOD next month, and Carnahan has been doing a fantastic job of handling the film’s marketing duties by himself.  The story revolves around a down-on-his-luck chauffeur (Patrick Wilson) who attempts to relieve his debt by driving around a mysterious, eccentric billionaire (James Badge Dale).  We’ve already seen some images and clips that show off the batshit insanity that we can expect from the movie itself, and today Carnahan released a Stretch gag reel that proves Chris Pine is an untapped well of comedic gold.  The guy is funny, and his character looks to be positively off-the-rails.  Give me this movie now, please.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR Review

In 2005, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller‘s Sin City was an interesting novelty.  The directors were able to transfer Miller’s visually distinct comics to the screen through the heavy use of CGI.  Not adapt; transfer.  The comic was used as a storyboard, and the directors filled in the gaps by casting a bunch of recognizable actors to play the roles.  For people who argue that adaptations should never stray from the source material, 2005′s Sin City was perfect.  Although the novelty has run its course, Rodriguez and Miller are back nine years later with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, but the visual panache now feels like a crutch while also diminishing any authentic noir vibe the movie occasionally tries to convey.  Although the sequel is occasionally enjoyable thanks to the actors who are in on the exaggerated tone, the film feels like it was made by a couple of teenagers who mistake whores for dames, sadists for toughs guys, and style for charm.

Jessica Alba, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller Talk SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR

Nearly a decade after the first film, co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller have reunited to bring the visually stunning Sin City graphic novels back to the screen for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.  In a town where murderers reign and the desperate want vengeance, their paths cross at the famous Kadie’s Club Pecos, where Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) still dances while mourning the loss of her love, John Hartigan (Bruce Willis).  With Marv (Mickey Rourke) in the center of the carnage, a cocky young gambler named Johnny (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) takes on the villainous Senator Roark (Powers Boothe), and Dwight McCarthy (Josh Brolin) is battles with the woman of his dreams and nightmares, Ava Lord (Eva Green).

During a conference at the film’s press day, actors Jessica Alba, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Eva Green talked about living in Sin City, with this dialogue and these extremes, going into the mind of Frank Miller, trickiest scenes, playing a Rodriguez bad-ass, the motives of the women in Sin City, working in Austin at Troublemaker Studios, working with Christopher Lloyd, feeling comfortable with Nancy’s swagger, the sex and sexuality of the story, and why Nancy is a stripper who never actually takes her clothes off.  Also there, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller discussed getting even closer to the comics this time around, what the 3D added, the process of lighting the film, what their collaboration has meant to each other, and how they’d like to go into production on a third film, right away.  Check out what they had to say after the jump.

Watch Over 9 Minutes of Behind-the-Scenes SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR Footage

The Weinstein Company has released over nine minutes of behind-the-scenes Sin City: A Dame to Kill For footage that offers a look at how directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller brought the sequel to fruition.  If you’re curious to see just how many actual sets were used (spoiler alert: the answer is basically zero) in the making of Sin City 2, this b-roll is an interesting watch.  Regardless of the quality of the finished film, the actors are all essentially playing pretend in a giant green sandbox with very little to work with by way of atmosphere or environment.  It’s certainly a challenging working process, and while blockbuster films all use greenscreen to some degree, Rodriguez pushes the lack of live-action elements to the limit.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR Red-Band Trailer Goes Heavy on Stylization, Light on Everything Else

Dimension Films has released the new full-length Sin City: A Dame to Kill For red-band trailer that premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend.  And it doesn’t seem like directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller (read our SDCC interview) have done anything new for the sequel.  The film stars Josh Brolin as the physically altered Dwight (played by Clive Owen in the first film), who is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord (Eva Green), and then watches his life go straight to hell.  Also going straight to hell is my interest in this movie.  I enjoyed the first film but felt that even this trailer was too much time spent back in the arbitrarily stylized world.  Nothing had any impact.  The only thing this film could do to surprise me is fashion a tight, engaging narrative.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR Clip – Jessica Alba Gets a Little Crazy

The first clip from Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is now available and it features Jessica Alba getting a little crazy.  It’s a little clunky but it’s also taken out of context (I hope) so I wouldn’t judge the movie based on this brief glimpse.  If this little bit of Alba leaves you wanting more, then be sure to watch Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight at 11:35pm when she will appear to help promote the sequel.

Dimension Films has released a new full-length Sin City: A Dame to Kill For for directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s sequel.  The film stars Josh Brolin as the physically altered Dwight (played by Clive Owen in the first film), who is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord (Eva Green), and then watches his life go straight to hell.  This trailer focuses heavily on the returning members of the cast, specifically Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, and Bruce Willis.  There’s plenty of action and stylized visuals on display, but even after a number of trailers, images, posters, etc. I’m still having troubling drumming up anything but indifference towards the follow-up.  It looks fine, but 2006 was a very long time ago.

First Look at Pierce Brosnan in HOW TO MAKE LOVE TO AN ENGLISHMAN and Katherine Heigl in YOUR RIGHT MIND

Debut images from a pair of upcoming films being shopped at Cannes have been officially unveiled.  Firstly, the How to Make Love to An Englishman image reveals star Pierce Brosnan in the “sexually charged and sophisticated romantic comedy” from director Tom Vaughn (What Happens in Vegas).  Brosnan plays a Cambridge University professor who meets his match in Salma Hayek, but is forced to face the music when a complicated romantic entanglement emerges with her graduate student stepsister, played by Jessica Alba.  The film is currently in post-production but doesn’t yet have a release date.

Additionally, the first Your Right Mind image highlights star Katherine Heigl as a former country singer fighting for custody of her daughter.  Ami Canaan Mann (Texas Killing Fields) directs the contemporary romance, which stars Ben Barnes (Chronicles of Narnia) as a traveling folk singer who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Hegil’s character.  The film also stars Clea DuVaal, Sheryl Lee, Emily Alyn Lind, and Ryan Bingham.  Check out both first-look images after the jump.

Well here’s a new one.  In lieu of clips or traditional images, The Weinstein Company has released a batch of “animated images” (ie. gifs) from directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.  The film stars Josh Brolin as the physically altered Dwight (played by Clive Owen in the first film), who is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord (Eva Green), and then watches his life go straight to hell.  I’m curious to see if the audience for a Sin City sequel is still out there nearly a decade after the first film was released, especially since technology has evolved so drastically since the groundbreaking graphic novel adaptation.

Dimension has released two new Sin City: A Dame to Kill For posters.  The film stars Josh Brolin as the physically altered Dwight (played by Clive Owen in the first film), who is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord (Eva Green), and then watches his life go straight to hell.  The story features new characters, but the trailer and these posters rely heavily on characters from the first movie.  Even though Brolin and Green are presumably the central figures, there’s a heavy reliance on Marv (Mickey Rourke) and Nancy (Jessica Alba), which reminds me that 2005 was a long time ago.

Dimension Films has released a new trailer for co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.  The film stars Josh Brolin as the physically altered Dwight (played by Clive Owen in the first film), who is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord (Eva Green), and then watches his life go straight to hell.  This trailer doesn’t really get into the plot all that much, as it’s more of a flashy, aesthetic teaser than anything.  Frankly, the visuals for Sin City 2 look quite cheap compared to the first film, even though technology has advanced almost a decade since Rodriguez made Sin City.  The cast is promisingly eclectic, though, but right now that’s the only thing holding my interest here.

The first trailer for Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For recently debuted to somewhat mixed reactions.  Seeing as it’s been nearly a decade since the original film, many were perhaps expecting an evolution from the first film’s ground-breaking aesthetics.  While the sequel looks every bit as atmospheric as the first film, those criticisms are certainly well-founded.  We’ve got three new images from the picture to share with you today, and while they probably won’t change your mind about the film one way or the other, they’re certainly stylized in a familiar fashion.

Starring Eva Green, Josh Brolin, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert, Christopher Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Stacy Keach, and Julia Garner, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens on August 22nd.  Hit the jump to check out the new images.
