The first trailer for Sundance entry Emanuel and the Truth about Fishes is now online. Kaya Scodelario (Wuthering Heights) plays the titular character, a troubled girl who obsesses over a new neighbor (Jessica Biel) that looks just like her dead mother: "In offering to babysit her newborn, Emanuel unwittingly enters a fragile, fictional world, of which she becomes the gatekeeper." The tone chills, I am intrigued by the hints of the "fragile, fictional world," and I like hearing Scodelario try on her American accent. But whenever Emanuel is released, I will go see it to find out how a young girl gets such an unusual name beyond the thematic resonance of "God is with us."

Alfred Molina, Frances O’Connor, Jimmi Simpson, and Aneurin Barnard co-star in Francesca Gregorini's second feature. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Here's the Sundance synopsis:
Emanuel, a troubled girl, becomes preoccupied with her mysterious, new neighbor, who bears a striking resemblance to her dead mother. In offering to babysit her newborn, Emanuel unwittingly enters a fragile, fictional world, of which she becomes the gatekeeper.

The first clips have landed online for two Sundance 2013 premieres: Chan-wook Park's Stoker, starring Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska, and Francesca Gregorini's Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes, starring Jessica Biel, Kaya Scodelario and Alfred Molina. Both movies deal with issues of motherhood, though the first clip from Stoker reveals Kidman's character as rather aggressively unstable while Biel's character is merely a dead-ringer for the protag's own dead mother. Check out both clips after the jump (be forewarned: both clips are annoyingly set to auto-play).

Here's the first clip for Stoker (via Yahoo!):

Here’s the synopsis for Stoker:
After India’s (Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
Check out the first clip for Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes below (via HitFix):

Here's the synopsis for Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes:

In offering to babysit her newborn, Emanuel unwittingly enters a fragile, fictional world, of which she becomes the gatekeeper. Cast: Kaya Scodelario, Jessica Biel, Alfred Molina, Frances O’Connor, Jimmi Simpson, Aneurin Barnard.

As we await the 85th Academy Award nominations announcement on Thursday morning, we now have a look at the opposite end of the 2012 film spectrum. The 33rd Golden Raspberry Award nominations have been announced, celebrating the very worst of what 2012's movie slate had to offer. Leading the pack is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 with 10 nominations, as the film landed a nomination in every single category. The Twilight closer will go head-to-head with Battleship, A Thousand Words, That’s My Boy, and The Oogieloves in Big Balloon Adventure for the Worst Picture title.

It’s easy to beat up on the Twilight franchise, and even though I wouldn’t go so far as to call Breaking Dawn – Part 2 a good movie, it’s in no way the worst movie of the year. The sheer amount of beheadings alone in director Bill Condon’s climactic fight sequence is enough to make the movie worth watching. Anyway, hit the jump to check out the full list of Razzie Awards nominations.

Here’s the (rather painful) video announcement, followed by the full list of nominations:

Worst Picture

	Battleship
The Oogieloves in Big Balloon Adventure
	That's My Boy
	A Thousand Words
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2

Worst Director

Sean Anders - That's My Boy
	Peter Berg - Battleship
Bill Condon - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2
Tyler Perry - Good Deeds / Madea's Witness Protection
John Putch - Atlas Shrugged: Part II

Worst Actress

Katherine Heigl - One for the Money
Milla Jovovich - Resident Evil: Retribution
Tyler Perry - Madea's Witness Protection
	Kristen Stewart ...

Though by no means is it a good movie, Total Recall, the 2012 remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Paul Verhoven action classic, is also not the disaster that some might have expected or hoped for. For the most part it’s a slightly stupid action movie with a number of big set pieces, but nothing all that memorable about it. Colin Farrell stars alongside Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale in Len Wiseman’s update, and our review of the film on Blu-ray follows after the jump.

Douglas Quaid (Farrell) has been having dreams lately about a big fight and a woman (Biel) he’s in love with. But when he wakes up he’s with his wife (Beckinsale) and has a boring factory job making robots. But his mind is preoccupied with these dreams, and so he goes to Rekall where they give you memories of things that didn’t happen. Where this set-up works fairly elegantly in the original because of Quaid’s desire to go to Mars, here it’s more the thing that has to happen to start the movie. And here there is no Mars, the set up is that the poor half of the world lives in Shanghai, while rich people live in London. There’s a tunnel through the center of the earth that brings the workers into London, but the politics are never more than rich people = mostly bad. But when Quaid goes to Rekall, before he gets any of the treatment, it’s revealed that he’s a government agent and the building ...

A new international trailer for Hitchcock has gone online. While this trailer centers on the drama revolving around the making of Hitchcock's Psycho, that's not really the thrust of the movie. It's more of a backdrop to the film's central (and less interesting) conflict between Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) and wife/partner Alma Reville (Helen Mirren). This trailer shows only a hint of the marital tension between the two characters, which serves as the basis for most of the movie. Going into Hitchcock thinking you're about to see a riveting tale about the making of Psycho is a recipe for disappointment.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Scarlett Johansson, Danny Huston, Toni Collette, Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, James D'Arcy, Michael Wincott, Richard Portnow, and Kurtwood Smith. Hitchcock opens in limited release on November 23rd.

Here's the official synopsis for Hitchcock:
HITCHCOCK is a love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock, and his wife and partner Alma Reville. The film takes place during the making of Hitchcock's seminal movie PSYCHO.

Fox Searchlight has released 8 new images from the upcoming drama Hitchcock. Directed by Sacha Gervasi, the film stars Anthony Hopkins as legendary director Alfred Hitchcock and chronicles the development and production of Psycho, specifically focusing on Hitchcock’s strained relationship with his wife and collaborator Alma Reville (Helen Mirren). These new images give us fresh looks at the prolific couple as well as the Psycho cast: Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles, and James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins. The film received a mixed-to-positive reception following its world premiere at AFI Fest, though Mirren’s performance as Reville has drawn near universal praise.

Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Toni Collette, Michael Stuhlbarg, Danny Huston, and Kurtwood Smith. Hitchcock opens on November 23rd.

Here’s the synopsis for Hitchcock:
HITCHCOCK is a love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock and his wife and partner Alma Reville. The film takes place during the making of Hitchcock’s seminal movie PSYCHO.

The first trailer and a new poster for director Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock have been released. The film looks absolutely fascinating, with killer performances from stars Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren as the legendary director and his wife. The story chronicles the troubled production of Psycho, but there's a great deal of humor sprinkled throughout this trailer to balance the more dramatic material. The chemistry between Hopkins and Mirren is palpable, and the makeup work on Hopkins is simply stunning. Though the fall movie season is already packed with some fantastically promising films, this swell first trailer has rocketed Hitchcock towards the top of my most anticipated list.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer and check out the poster. The film also stars Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, Toni Collette, Danny Huston, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Kurtwood Smith. Hitchcock opens on November 23rd.

A few new images from the real-life drama Hitchcock have landed online. The film stars Anthony Hopkins as the legendary director and centers on his relationship with his wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren) during the troubled production of Psycho. Fox Searchlight recently pushed the film into a prime awards season November release date, and the pic is slated to make its world premiere at the AFI Fest on November 1st. These images give us a look at Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles, and James D’Arcy as Norman Bates himself, Tony Perkins. We also get a look at Hopkins and Mirren as Mr. and Mrs. Hitchcock. Backstage stories are always fascinating and I can’t wait to see what director Sacha Gervasi has put together.

Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Toni Collette, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Danny Huston. Hitchcock opens on November 23rd.

Let's take a look at a year in the life of composer Danny Elfman: he's already crafted scores for Tim Burton's Dark Shadows and Frankenweenie, plus another for Men In Black 3. He has David O. Russell's upcoming Silver Linings Playbook, plus Fox's animated pic Epic and a reunion with Sam Raimi for Oz The Great and Powerful. So, what the hell, let's add two more on the list! Reports have Elfman attached to compose the scores for director Gus Van Sant's Promised Land as well as Sacha Gervasi's biopic, Hitchcock. Hit the jump for more on both projects.

The Playlist (via Film Music Reporter) reports that Elfman will once again team with Van Sant, as he did previously on Milk and Restless. Promised Land is an environmentally-driven drama penned by stars Matt Damon and John Krasinski, which also stars Hal Holbrook, Rosemarie DeWitt, Frances McDormand and Scoot McNairy. More good news for Elfman: Focus Features has set a limited release date of December 28th in order to getPromised Landinto awards contention before expanding in January. Here's the official synopsis:
Mr. Damon plays Steve Butler, a corporate salesman who arrives in a rural town with his sales partner, Sue Thomason (Ms. McDormand). With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company’s offer, for drilling rights to their properties, as much-needed relief. What seems like an easy job for the duo becomes complicated by the objection of a respected schoolteacher (Mr. ...

Many projects go through growing pains during development. James Cameron’s Titanic was labeled the biggest bomb of all time before it even hit theaters, Martin Sheen had a heart attack during the year-long shoot of Apocalypse Now, and filming on Men in Black 3 halted for a few months so that they could work on the script. David O. Russell’s Nailed, however, was a bona fide production nightmare. The film has yet to be finished and it’s unlikely it’ll ever see the light of day, but none of this is the fault of the creatives involved.

The political comedy satire was filmed in 2008 with Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal, Catherine Keener, and Tracy Morgan and centered on three people with serious health issues that stormed Washington D.C. to demand treatment. Production was shut down multiple times during filming, and just as Russell was getting to the filming of the film’s centerpiece scene the project was shut down for good. The story behind Nailed’s filming and subsequent permanent limbo is stranger than fiction, and Steve recently got a lot of background on what exactly went down from producers Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher (of Red Wagon Entertainment) when he spoke with them in anticipation of the release of Lawless. Hit the jump for the full story.

Nailed was to be Wick and Fisher’s first foray into independent films. They had previously found success on pics like Jarhead, Peter Pan, and Stuart Little, and they were trying their hand at an indie. Problems ...

While the summer has been awash with big action films, a heaping help of sci-fi and a trio of superhero movies, The Tall Man is coming to lead us into the fall. Director Pascal Laugier’s horror thriller centers on Julia Denning (Jessica Biel), the nurse of a small town which has been plagued by the recent disappearances of their children. Julia doesn’t put much stock in the culprit being the local urban legend of The Tall Man until her own son is taken. And though you’ve seen the trailer, posters and clips from the film, now The Tall Man is coming for you in this new motion poster. Also starring Jodelle Ferland, Stephen McHattie, William B. Davis and Jakob Davies, The Tall Man opens August 31st. Hit the jump to check out the motion poster.

The new motion poster for The Tall Man follows after the film’s official synopsis:
In an isolated, slowly dying mining town, children are vanishing without a trace – abducted, the townsfolk whisper, by a mysterious entity known locally as “The Tall Man.” Town nurse Julia Denning (Jessica Biel) seems skeptical…until her young David disappears in the middle of night. Frantic to rescue the boy, Julia lives every parent’s darkest nightmare in this twisting, shock-around-each-corner thriller from acclaimed director Pascal Laugier (“Martyrs”) called THE TALL MAN.

The first trailer for Gabriele Muccino's (The Pursuit of Happyness) comedy-drama Playing for Keeps (formerly titled Playing the Field) has been released. Gerard Butler stars as a former soccer star who decides to coach his son’s little league soccer team, but ends up becoming the object of attraction for the local town’s women. The schmaltzy trailer is kind of all over the place, as Butler is seen alternatively cracking jokes and being depressed. The supporting cast is fine, with Jessica Biel playing Butler’s ex-wife and Catherine Zeta-Jones playing a love interest who could also revitalize Butler’s career, but the story seems to be covering the well-worn territory of a single dad who pines for the greatness of his earlier life at the expense of his relationship with his son/family. That said, the film might prove fairly enticing to families looking for a light, heartwarming story during the holidays that doesn't involve short hairy half-lings or a singing Hugh Jackman.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Dennis Quaid and Uma Thurman. Playing for Keeps opens on December 7th. [Update: We've updated the article with high-resolution images and the film's poster]

Here’s the synopsis for Playing for Keeps:
A charming, down-on-his luck former soccer star returns home to put his life back together. Looking for a way to rebuild his relationship with his son, he gets roped into coaching the boy's soccer team. But his attempts to finally become an "adult" are met with hilarious challenges ...

Last week, I admitted to being among those who become hopelessly caught up in the Olympic Summer Games. One week later and things have taken an unexpected turn for the pathetic as I now find myself legitimately concerned with the "Medal Count". As if it has any sort of bearing on my own life in any way, shape, and/or form, I'm consistently pulling for the U.S. to overtake China not only in total medals, but also in total Gold medals. In short, whether by virtue of patriotism or just sheer boredom, living vicariously through world-class athletes is what my life has come to.
Sports talk aside, awaiting you on the other end of this week's Top 5 are brief recaps and links to Steve's Total Recall video interviews with Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, and more, the first full trailer for James Bond's Skyfall, our multi-part interview with the great Guillermo del Toro, the news that The Hobbit will be a trilogy, and all of our Saturn Awards interviews including talks with writer/director Drew Goddard and Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan.
1. TOTAL RECALL Interviews with Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, and More

With director Len Wiseman's Total Recall remake hitting theaters this weekend, we were able to bring you a slew of video interviews Steve conducted with stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, and Bryan Cranston. We can argue all day long about the necessity of the pic and how it stacks up to Paul Verhoeven's original adaptation of the Philip K. Dick ...

Opening this Friday is director Len Wiseman's remake of Total Recall. Based on the short story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale by Philip K. Dick, Total Recall stars Colin Farrell in the role originated by Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the film, Farrell stars as Douglas Quaid, a man who is bored with his life (even though he's married to Kate Beckinsale) and seeks to have adventurous memories implanted in his brain. However, after visiting Recall, both friends and family are after him for different reasons. But the big problem is he doesn't know what's real. The film also stars Jessica Biel, John Cho, Bill Nighy, and Bryan Cranston.

The other day I got to speak with Jessica Biel here in Los Angeles. We talked about how the film is non-stop action, what she did to prepare for the role, the practical sets and how it wasn't a CG fest, and what it's like to do so much press. In addition, if you follow me on Twitter you know I always offer our readers the chance to send in questions. When I said I'd be speaking with Biel, people wanted to know if she'd consider playing April O'Neil in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and why she really dropped out of The Wolverine. Both answers are at the end of the interview. Hit the jump to watch.

Finally, if you missed Len Wiseman telling me the Total Recall Blu-ray would have a directors cut that was 17 minutes longer, you can ...

Director Len Wiseman’s remake of Total Recall hits theaters next weekend, and Sony has released five clips and 15 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from the film in anticipation of the release. Colin Farrell takes over the role originated by Arnold Schwarzenegger, and judging by these clips and previous trailers, Wiseman’s got a whole lotta sci-fi action in store for moviegoers. So much so that the director recently revealed to Steve that he put together a director’s cut for the Blu-ray that includes 17 minutes of extra footage.

Hit the jump to check out the clips and behind-the-scenes footage, and be sure to check out Steve’s Comic-Con interviews with stars Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston. The film also stars Kate Beckinsale, Bill Nighy, and John Cho. Total Recall opens on August 3rd.

Here’s the synopsis for Total Recall:
Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), ...
