With twice the terror and double the D’s of the first film, Piranha 3DD (opening in theaters and available on VOD on June 1st) sees the flesh-eating fish return to sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitor’s of The Big Wet Water Park.  This time there is more insanity, more blood, more boobs and even David Hasselhoff to add to all the zany fun.  The film stars Danielle Panabaker, David Koechner, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Katrina Bowden, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Christopher Lloyd and Gary Busey.

At the film’s press day, I had the opportunity to speak with director John Gulager, who was accompanied by one of his piranha stars, about how he approached making the sequel even more outrageous, shooting in Real 3D and the challenges that presented, not having many deleted scenes even though the cut is under 90 minutes, and how what it was like to work with David Hasselhoff.  Hit the jump to watch.

In case you want to see more of Piranha 3DD’s cast than just David Hasselhoff, we have a new “making of” featurette for you to check out.  The Hoff was recently featured in both a clip from the film as well as a character featurette.  This new featurette, while still not a real behind-the-scenes look, showcases David Koechner, Katrina Bowden and Gary Busey talking about their characters and the fictitious lengths they had to go through to bring Piranha 3DD to the screen.  If you’re a fan of boobs and blood, or just an amateur icthyologist eager to learn more, you’ll want to hit the jump to check out the NSFW video.  Directed by John Gulager, the film also stars Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer and Danielle PanabakerPiranha 3DD opens on June 1st.

New PIRANHA 3DD Clip Features Slo-Mo David Hasselhoff and BAYWATCH Nostalgia

Dimension Films is doubling your pleasure with a second helping of boobs, blood and killer fish in this summer’s Piranha 3DD. For a while now, I thought the extra D was a cleverly disguised breast joke, but apparently it stands for “David,” as in David Hasselhoff. This new clip from the film features The Hoff in his oh-so-familiar role as a lifeguard.  Fans of the glory days of Baywatch will get a kick out of the segment and the humor aimed at an aging Hasselhoff is spot-on to what you can expect from Piranha 3DD. Be sure to check out the trailer, red-band trailer, posters and images, as well.  The film stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Koechner, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer, and Gary BuseyPiranha 3DD opens June 1st.  Hit the jump to check out the new clip.

PIRANHA 3DD Director Confirms the Movie Is Still Heading to U.S. Theaters

There was a bit of stir when a British website reported that Piranha 3DD would be going straight-to-DVD in UK.  The film had already been delayed from its November release in the U.S., so was it possible the movie was going to have a similar direct-to-DVD fate in the states?  It would be a remarkably stupid idea to film a movie in 3D and then skip a theatrical release when most folks still don’t have 3D TVs.  But director John Gulager has come to put your fears to rest.

Hit the jump for why the release date was delayed, and when we can expect the returns of boobs, blood, and fish.  The film stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Hasselhoff, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Gary Busey.

PIRANHA 3DD Starts Production

by     Posted: April 25th, 2011 at 4:42 pm

Production has officially begun on Piranha 3DD. The film is a follow-up to the surprisingly successful B-movie-esque Piranha 3D, which was released last summer. This time the film takes place at The Big Wet Water Park, naturally. Being that it’s a water park, I’m sure all the actresses in the film will be required to wear clothing, lest they seem inappropriate. Directed by John Gulager (Feast), Piranha 3DD stars Danielle Panabaker (The Crazies), Matt Bush (Adventureland), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spider-Man), David Koechner (Anchorman) and Meagan Tandy (Unstoppable).

Hit the jump to read the full press release. Piranha 3DD is slated for November 23rd.

PIRANHA 3D Sequel to Be Titled PIRANHA 3DD; Team Behind 2005 Horror Film FEAST to Write and Direct

by     Posted: October 19th, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Dimension Films landed a surprise hit (if opening 6th at the box office qualifies as a hit) with Piranha 3D and now, as we reported in August, they’re going in for a sequel.  The new film will be titled Piranha 3DD as a nod to the series’ love of large breasts.  The guys being brought on to create this cinematic masterpiece are the folks behind the 2005 horror film, Feast: director John Gulager and screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (who also wrote the last four Saw movies).  Deadline reports that Dimension is aiming to get Piranha 3DD into theaters by August 2011.  Personally, I’m not shocked that they’re trying to turn it around that fast.  I’m shocked that they’re writing a script.

No word if they’ll shoot in 3D or post-convert it like they did with Piranha 3D.  Either way, I hope we get another fun argument between James Cameron and producer Mark Canton.
