The audience at a recent taping of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory was treated to a bit of a surprise, as the show’s cast and crew spontaneously broke into a flash mob just before a scene was set to begin.  Set to that song that will not go away, “Call Me Maybe,” the ratings-dominating comedy’s crew was joined by cast members Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, and more in what was actually planned as a surprise for the series’ showrunners, Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Steven Molaro.  The video is worthwhile if only to see Blossom’s Mayim Bialik get down behind a very enthusiastic Kaley Cuoco.  Hit the jump to watch the video.

The cast for Randall Miller’s indie pic CBGB is heating up with the addition of Ashley Greene (Twilight) in the lead role.  Named after the iconic New York club where punk music earned a good part of its history, CBGB already stars Malin Akerman, Rupert Grint, Johnny Galecki, Joel David Moore, Stana Katic and more.  Greene is in talks to star as Lisa Kristal, the daughter of club owner, Hilly Kristal, who will be played by Alan Rickman. The script was co-written by Miller and Jody Savin (the duo previously wrote Bottle Shock). CBGB plans to shoot later this month in Savannah, Georgia before moving production to New York.  Hit the jump for more details on Greene’s character and on CBGB.

The ensemble cast of Zachary Quinto (Star Trek), Luke Wilson (Old School), Topher Grace (Take Me Home Tonight) and Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) have accepted The Invitation from director Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body).  The thriller, scripted by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (both of Clash of the Titans and the upcoming R.I.P.D.), centers around Will (Wilson) who receives an invitation from his estranged ex-wife to attend a dinner party.  However, things take a dark turn as Will becomes increasingly suspicious of his ex-wife’s guests, a group who harbors an insidious agenda.  The Invitation will begin principal photography in Los Angeles this summer.  Hit the jump for more.

New Trailer for IN TIME

I thought we had already covered this trailer for In Time so I put off writing it up.  I could have sworn there was a new trailer released only a week ago, and I was right.  But this is a new trailer!  It’s pretty similar to the old trailer!  It hits you with a cool sci-fi premise (there’s a future where everyone lives until their 25 unless they have more time so time is used as currency) and then aims for broader appeal by selling an action flick where Justin Timberlake is on the run with Amanda Seyfried as his hostage/protection from evil rich people and the cops.  I really want In Time to work as smart sci-fi and not just as the premise for a standard action movie. Adam liked what he saw at the film’s Comic-Con presentation so that’s a good sign.

Hit the jump to check out the new-ish trailer.  The film also stars Cillian Murphy, Vincent Kartheiser, Alex Pettyfer, Johnny Galecki, and Olivia Wilde.  In Time opens October 28th.

New Trailer for IN TIME Starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried

A new trailer for Andrew Niccol’s (Gattaca) sci-fi thriller In Time has been released. Just last week the director unveiled a wealth of footage at Comic-Con and online, but it appears they’re antsy to reveal as much of the movie as possible. This trailer gives us our first look at Olivia Wilde as Timberlake’s mom (yes, it’s kinda creepy), and focuses a bit less on the story than the previous footage. It’s not a bad trailer, and I really liked what I saw at the Comic-Con panel, I just hope the movie doesn’t turn out to be another generic “on the run” thriller. Nevertheless, I like the cast, I like the concept, and I like Niccol so I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The movie stars Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy, Olivia Wilde, Alex Pettyfer, Johnny Galecki, Matt Bomer, and Vincent Kartheiser. In Time opens October 28th.

The cast and creators of TV’s “smartest, funniest and now Emmy-nominated” The Big Bang Theory dropped in on Comic-Con today to talk about the upcoming 5th season of the popular series. Executive producers Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Steve Molaro joined principal cast Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch on stage. In a nice touch for fans of the show, Carol Ann Susi provided the disembodied voice of Mrs. Wolowitz to introduce the panel. THE BIG BANG THEORY: Season 3 Blu-ray Review

“The Nerd Empire Strikes Back” for season three of The Big Bang Theory and the gang is back and up to their usual shenanigans.  Raj is still too nervous to talk around Penny, Howard is willing to try anything to get laid (even almost get a tattoo), Sheldon is still a hilarious and neurotic mess, and Leonard and Penny are dating.  Wait a minute, that’s a new development…  Now Sheldon has to deal with being the third wheel to Penny and Leonard’s tumultuous and severely awkward relationship.  This season delivers the same amount of laughs as the last two and Sheldon is still the NERD KING, but the flaws of the more standard sitcom jokes and some performances are starting to stick out more this time around.

THE BIG BANG THEORY Season 2 DVD Review

The Big Bang Theory CBS tv show image (1).jpg

Look out! Nerds are taking over movies and TV! Suddenly I’m the cool one because I know the alternate and conflicting origins of Wolverine and just how badly the new movie screwed them up.  All my friends that were the “cool” ones would be eaten alive at Comic-Con, which if you were lucky enough to bare witness to, you would know that Hollywood is really into “Geek Chic” right now.  When every comic book from “Thor” to “Green Lantern” to “Green Hornet” is being picked up to be another franchise opportunity, a show that centers around social outcasts with a plethora of nerd-knowledge is bound to be a hit in the current market trends.  I’m a self-proclaimed nerd and because of that and because “The Big Bang Theory” relishes in its nerd-dom it is easily one of the funniest shows on TV right now and definitely keeping the “traditional sitcom” alive.  More after the jump:

THE BIG BANG THEORY Season Two DVD Review

The Big Bang Theory CBS tv show image.jpg

I love this show. I’ve loved it from the first episode. I’m not a scientist but I am a nerd and so every science fiction, comic book, nerd reference, in fact every piece of trivia tossed aside ’causes me to break out laughing and always has. But even as I type this I can’t help wonder if this show works for the non-nerds/scientists? I mean, does everything body get a thrill of excitement when the entire male cast of a series dresses up like The Flash? Do they even know who The Flash is? When a joke is dependent on an understanding of the DC multiverse is any but me and people like me, gonna be rolling in the aisle? More after the jump:

Jim Parsons (Sheldon on THE BIG BANG THEORY) Exclusive Video Interview – Backstage at the 2009 Saturn Awards

Jim Parsons The Big Bang Theory (1).jpg

For my final interview from this year’s Saturn Awards, I bring you one of the leads on CBS’s awesome sitcom “The Big Bang Theory”. If you watch the show, you know how funny Jim Parsons is as Sheldon Cooper, Ph.D. Each week I’m amazed at how much nerdy dialogue Jim is forced to say, and after speaking with him, he admitted that all the things he says are foreign to him. Yes, it’s all an act…Jim isn’t a geek. Nevertheless, his work is always great and if you read sites like Collider and you aren’t watching “The Big Bang Theory”, you’re definitely missing out on a show you’d enjoy.

Anyway, after the jump you can see Jim talk about Comic-Con, what it’s like to lose his anonymity, did he buy anything special after getting a two season pick-up, what filming in front of an audience is like, and what is he looking forward to this season. Oh and we talked about rock, paper, scissors, Spock.

If you’re a fan of his show, you’ll love the interview. Take a look:
