Josh Peck Talks BATTLE OF THE YEAR, Learning Dance Moves, Dancing as a Sport vs an Art Form, Co-Starring with Josh Holloway and His Other Projects

by     Posted 1 year, 90 days ago

Inspired by the award-winning documentary Planet B-Boy, from director Benson Lee, Battle of the Year showcases the exhilarating and awe-inspiring world of competitive dance, in a way that illustrates how it is both a display of athleticism and an art form to rival any other.  When hip-hop mogul Dante Graham (Laz Alonso) turns to his old friend Jason Blake (Josh Holloway) to create and coach an American all-star dream team of b-boys to win the legendary Battle of the Year, hip hop’s premier competition held in France, he struggles to transform 13 individuals into a disciplined and cohesive crew.

At the film’s press day, actor Josh Peck (who plays assistant coach Franklyn) spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about what it takes for these dancers to pull off what is required of them, how even though he didn’t dance on camera, he did try to learn some of the moves, where he falls in the debate about whether dance is a sport or an art form, what he thought about the performances during the battle sequences, working with co-star Josh Holloway, adding a little much-needed female energy to the mix, and how he’s looked for a variety of acting roles, since his days on Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

by     Posted 2 years, 27 days ago

The long-delayed re-imagining of Red Dawn is finally hitting theaters over the Thanksgiving holiday.  When the citizens of a city in Washington state find themselves the prisoners under enemy occupation by North Korea, a group of young patriots known as The Wolverines become determined to fight and band together to protect one another and take back their freedom.  From director Dan Bradley, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

At the film’s press day, Collider spoke to actor Josh Peck – who plays the town’s star quarterback, Matt Eckert – in both a roundtable and 1-on-1 interview, in which he talked about how excited he is for people to finally get to see the film, how lucky he felt to get offered the role and not have to audition, his decision to wait until after they finished filming before he watched the original, just how grueling the boot camp training was, and his experience working with Chris Hemsworth.  He also talked about what it was like to make the b-boy competition film Battle of the Year (which also stars Lost’s Josh Holloway), what he enjoys about doing more physical roles, and his hope to direct a feature film someday.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

New “Patriotic Trailer” for RED DAWN Starring Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson

by     Posted 2 years, 34 days ago

A new trailer for the Red Dawn remake, dubbed a “patriotic trailer,” has been released online.  Directed by Dan Bradley, the remake stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Josh Peck, and Arianne Palicki as a group of teenagers/young adults who must work together in order to repel invading North Korean forces.  It appears that the marketing campaign is now heavily geared toward the film’s patriotic appeal despite the fact that the filmmakers troublingly switched the nationality of the film’s villains from Chinese to North Koreans in post-production by changing the colors of the flags (‘Merica!).  Nevertheless, the film actually looks like it could be kind of fun if it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

First Trailer for RED DAWN Remake Starring Chris Hemsworth, Adrianne Palicki, and Josh Hutcherson

The first trailer for the long-delayed Red Dawnremake has been released.  Watching this trailer, I’m reminded of why we now use aliens for all of our invasion movies.  Being a superpower, it’s tougher to imagine the U.S. getting invaded by almost any other country.  The original worked in 1984 because it preyed on Cold War fears, and those fears no longer exist.  Even when China was the foe for the remake (a post-production change was made so that we wouldn’t lose money from their bustling economy; now the baddie is North Korea, which is laughable since they can’t even get a working rocket let alone an invasion force), there wasn’t too much fear, although that would at least provide a credible war.  I will say that the rah-rah freedom on display is kind of cute, and it’s interesting that the remake focuses on the characters going on a mission rather than simply trying to survive like in the original.

New Poster for RED DAWN Starring Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson

by     Posted 2 years, 130 days ago

That Red Dawn remake that everyone nearly forgot about is finally hitting theaters this November, and a revamped poster for the film has been released.  The pic was actually filmed in 2009, but sat on the shelf for years due to MGM’s financial troubles.  Moreover, in a fairly disturbing move, the filmmakers decided to digitally change the film’s villains from the Chinese to the North Koreans once they realized the film’s box office chances in China would be severely crippled if the country was painted as villainous.  Nevertheless, the pic is finally set for release this year and due to the delay, it now boasts the stars of two major franchises: Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson.  This new poster plays up the “Go America!” aspect and makes damn sure audiences know that Thor and Peeta are here to save the U.S. of A.

Sneak Peek at the Trailer for the RED DAWN Remake

by     Posted 2 years, 136 days ago

A sneak peek at the upcoming trailer for the remake of Red Dawn has gone online.  For those unfamiliar with the film, it’s about a group of teenagers who decide to take up arms and fight against a foreign invasion.  In the original 1984 version, it was the Russians, and the remake wanted to update the invaders to the Chinese.  However, after they finished shooting, the producers discovered that this might hurt distribution in China, so they decided to do some CGI change-ups to the flags and turn the invaders into North Koreans (in the hopes that you don’t notice that Chinese people and Korean people don’t look the same).

If you forgot that there was a remake of Red Dawn, you’re not alone.  The film was completed years ago, but had to sit on the shelf while MGM went through a financial meltdown (a fate shared by The Cabin in the Woods).  The movie was picked up for distribution by Film District in September 2011, and it will finally hit theaters on November 21st.  The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Josh Peck, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Connor Cruise.  Hit the jump to check out a sneak peek at the trailer.

RED DAWN Remake Reveals New Images of Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson and Josh Peck (Updated with Higher Res Images)

by     Posted 2 years, 138 days ago

With debut director Dan Bradley’s Red Dawn remake finally being released later this year, two new images have cropped up online.  The 1984 original, starring Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Lea Thompson, Jennifer Gray and C. Thomas Howell, became a cult classic, thanks in part to a group of American teenagers defending their town from invading forces from the Soviet Union.  Look for the remake to cast the villains as North Koreans this time around.  The surprisingly strong cast features Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Josh Peck, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Connor Cruise.  Red Dawn should finally be in theaters on November 21st of this year.  Hit the jump to see the newly released images and to read up on some choice quotes from the cast. Director David Brooks ATM Interview

by     Posted 2 years, 257 days ago

In the horror thriller ATM, directed by David Brooks and written by Chris Sparling (Buried), David Hargrove (Brian Geraghty) finally gets up the nerve to ask out Emily Brandt (Alice Eve) at their company Christmas party.  But, after getting saddled with their co-worker, Corey (Josh Peck), who asks them to make a late-night stop at an ATM, their impromptu first date takes and unexpected turn when an unknown man appears outside of the vestibule, blocking their exit, and they quickly become trapped in an intense game of cat-and-mouse.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, first-time feature director David Brooks talked about why he responded to the script for ATM, the tweaks they made prior to shooting, the biggest challenges of making such a self-contained and claustrophobic film, finding the right level of violence and tension, getting the three characters isolated without any mode of communication, and deciding how much of the killer’s backstory to include.  He also talked about how his love of film developed, why he enjoys working closely with actors, and his ambition to make big films that connect with people.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Frank Langella Joins Wes Bentley in THE TIME BEING; Josh Peck and James Ransone to Star in THE TIMBER

by     Posted 2 years, 322 days ago

Based on titles alone, Robot & Frank was the most intriguing film out of Sundance.  I was thrilled to hear the movie is great, and star Frank Langella unsurprisingly kills it.  Coming out of the festival buzz, Deadline reports Langella has signed on to his next project, The Time BeingWes Bentley co-stars as Daniel, a struggling artist who accepts a series of bizarre commissions from a dying, eccentric millionaire (Langella): “Daniel can’t quite ascertain whether his new ‘mentor’ is a monster who is intent on destroying Daniel’s life and marriage, or a savior who will teach him the true meaning of art.”  The Time Being will be the directorial debut of Nenad Cicin-Sain.  Cicin-Sain co-wrote the script with Richard Gladstein (Paper Man), who is also producing.

Trailer for ATM Starring Josh Peck, Alice Eve, and Brian Geraghty

by     Posted 2 years, 346 days ago

A trailer has gone online for the vestibule thriller ATM.  The film centers on three friends (Josh Peck (The Wackness) , Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League), and Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker)) who make a routine trip at night to pick up some cash from an ATM vestibule, but become trapped when a murderous psychopath threatens to psychopathically murder them.  Screenwriter Chris Sparling was able to pull of the claustrophobic single-location thriller with Buried, but David Brooks‘ directorial debut looks unbelievably silly.  The premise comes off as kind of neat, but when I see it in motion, it just reminds me of that one episode of Friends where Chandler gets stuck in an ATM vestibule with a supermodel (oh, 90s).

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. ATM will be released on VOD and Digital Platforms (iTunes, Amazon Streaming, XBox ZUNE, PS3 Video Unlimited) on March 2nd before opening in theaters on April 6th.
