We’ll Take Manhattan tells the story of famed British photographer, David Bailey (Aneurin Barnard), and his model and muse, Jean Shrimpton (Karen Gillan), who together revolutionized the world of fashion photography. Setting out from London to Manhattan in the 1960′s, for a historic photo shoot for British Vogue, the brash and visionary Bailey refused to conform to the status quo and the now iconic photos that resulted, with Shrimpton posing in haute couture on the gritty streets of New York City, became the definition of a new generation of celebrity chic.

During this exclusive interview with Collider, actress Karen Gillan, best known for her role as Amy Pond, opposite Matt Smith on Doctor Who, talked about why she wanted to be a part of We’ll Take Manhattan, how strange her own experience as a model was, wanting to be as authentic as possible while embodying Jean Shrimpton, the moment when she felt that she had finally figured out the essence of the real woman, how much she loved the wardrobe, and how she would have loved to have met Shrimpton, but was happy to know that she loved the film. She also talked about what led to her departure from Doctor Who, what she’ll remember most fondly about her time on the show, what she looks for in a role, and her dream to do Broadway someday. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

DOCTOR WHO: A CHRISTMAS CAROL DVD Review

Doctor Who fans got a big Christmas gift when it was announced that for the first time, the Christmas special, this year Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol, would be aired simultaneously on the BBC in the UK and BBC America in, well, America. And now, in case you missed out, it’s been given a quick turnaround to DVD today (Feb. 15).

Does the world need another A Christmas Carol? Of course not, but loosely basing this on Dickens’ classic Christmas story gives the latest Doctor Who mastermind, Steven Moffat, plenty of chances to have fun with tricks of time and space. Matt Smith is the 11th doctor to travel in the TARDIS booth, and he’s joined in this Christmas special by Michael Gambon (aka Dumbledore, of course) as the Scrooge of sorts for this tale.  Hit the jump for a review of the DVD release of Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol.

DOCTOR WHO Producer Piers Wenger Exclusive Interview; Talks About the Fifth Series, the New Doc and Filming in America

by     Posted: November 15th, 2010 at 3:37 pm

If you thought Doc Brown’s DeLorean form Back to the Future was cool, wait till you check out the new TARDIS. The time travel vessel, or Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space, has been pimped up for the fifth series of the classic BBC series Doctor Who, just released on DVD and Blu-ray with an array of bonuses.

It may look like a phone booth, but its interior is as big as the west wing of the Starship Enterprise. According to producer Piers Wenger, the revamped interior design reflects “a real mish-mash between old and new, young and old,” much like the show itself, for Doctor Who has traveled through almost five decades seamlessly. And it isn’t merely about time travel, it is a sci-fi phenomenon. Hit the jump to find out more and read my interview with Piers Wenger.

There have been thirty-one series of Doctor Who produced since 1963, but for the first time ever, the Doctor is coming to America.  Season six of the millennial relaunch — currently headlined by Matt Smith — opens with a two-part episode set in the United States scripted by Steven Moffat.  The two-parter finds Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Davill) on “a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert in Utah – right to the Oval Office itself.”  Alex Kingston reprises her role as River Song.

The Doctor Who Christmas specials are set to premiere on BBC America during the holiday season.  The first half of season six is scheduled for spring 2011, while a second block of episodes will air later that fall.  Hit the jump for the official announcement.
