For the past six days, Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man has held the top spot at the daily box office. It should surprise no one, therefore, that the reboot easily netted the weekend prize as well; earning an estimated $65 million from 4,318 locations. That gives the film a new domestic total of $140 million, a number that’s higher than early projections but lower than past entries in the Spider-Man series. Worldwide, the film has now earned a reported $341 million, which is not too bad for reboot…

The purpose of a Friday box office report is to provide some indication of how new releases will fare over their first weekends. Of course, that purpose is undermined when the frame’s biggest title has been around since Tuesday. The Amazing Spider-Man had a promising start, earning just under $60 million through the Fourth of July holiday and $75 million in its first three days. With a Friday estimate of $20.7 million from 4,318 locations, Sony’s reboot looks like it will end up with close to $140 over six days, or slightly higher than studio projections. Katy Perry: Part Of Me, the latest 3D concert film, also got a jump on the Friday box office: launching Thursday with $3.1 million from 2,730 locations. With only $2.7 million on Friday, however, Part Of Me looks like it will struggle to top $10 million by Sunday. The only new movie that stuck to the Friday release model was Universal’s Savages. The R-rated drama from director Oliver Stone earned an estimated $5.6 million from 2,628 locations towards what should be a $15 million first weekend.

Opening today is Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D.  Like last year’s Justin Bieber movie, Never Say Never, Katy Perry‘s film is equal parts concert footage and documentary.  Now here’s the shocking part: it’s actually quite good.  While directors Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz could have just focused on her stage persona and the positives, the film shows how hard Perry tried to keep her relationship with Russell Brand alive and it doesn’t shy away from some of the more difficult moments.   Of course the film doesn’t show everything, but it offers enough to make you feel like you’re really behind the curtain.

We’ve got a few poster debuts to share this afternoon.  Briefly:

• Dredd – The first poster for director Pete Travis’ reboot of the comics character.  Karl Urban stars as the titular law-keeper and is joined by Olivia Thirlby and Lena Heady (Game of Thrones).  The film opens in 3D on September 21^st.
• End of Watch – The debut poster for the gritty cop drama from writer-director David Ayer (Training Day), starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena.  The film opens on September 28^th.
• Finding Nemo 3D – Continuing with Disney’s theatrical 3D re-release of older films, the first poster has arrived for the 3D iteration of Pixar’s Finding Nemo.  The film hits theaters (again) on September 14^th.
• Katy Perry: Part of Me– The title really speaks for itself, but for those confused as to who Katy Perry is, this new poster announces the concert documentary about the pop singer.  The film opens in 3D on July 5^th.
