Little Birds is an indie drama that follows 15-year-old Lily (Juno Temple) and her best friend Alison (Kay Panabaker), who live in a rundown trailer park on the shores of the Salton Sea.  When they meet a trio of visiting street kids, Lily’s rebelliousness kicks in and she convinces Alison to follow the boys to Los Angeles, but once there, they quickly fall into the boys’ world of scams and petty crime.  While Lily is determined to stay and make it work, her actions threaten to tear apart her friendship with Alison.  Written and directed by Elgin James, the film also stars Leslie Mann, Kate Bosworth, Kyle Gallner and Neal McDonough.

At the film’s press day, actress Kay Panabaker spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about her auditioning process for the film, what she immediately connected to with the story and character, what it was like to spend time in the Salton Sea, what it was like to work with co-star Juno Temple, how easy it is for her to get into the mind-set of a teenager, and where she thinks their characters may have ended up after their story in the film.  Check out what she had to say after the jump.

The first trailer for the indie drama Little Birds has gone online.  The film premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and stars Juno Temple and Kay Panabaker as two young girls who leave home for Los Angeles, only to discover that the boredom of their hometown may be better than trying to survive in a big city.  This is a really well-crafted trailer for the indie-inclined, as it highlights all the right notes for its target audience.  The performances look great, the visuals striking, and the story seems familiar yet unique.  Color me intrigued.  Furthermore, since its Sundance premiere Temple has becoming somewhat of a rising star, with roles in the upcoming Lovelace and The Dark Knight Rises.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Kate Bosworth, Kyle Gallner, and Leslie Mann.

Kay Panabaker Interview NO ORDINARY FAMILY

by     Posted: September 28th, 2010 at 11:30 am

The new ABC television series No Ordinary Family follows the Powell family and their journey from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim (Michael Chiklis) feels disconnected from his workaholic wife, Stephanie (Julie Benz), and two teenage children, Daphne (Kay Panabaker) and JJ (Jimmy Bennett). In an attempt to encourage family bonding time, Jim decides the family will join Stephanie on her business trip to South America, but when their plane crashes into the Amazon River, they soon realize that their lives have been forever changed, as each member of the family starts to show signs of new, unique and distinct super-powers. In trying to understand their abilities, they rebuild their family life and learn about what defines them as individuals.

In a recent interview to promote the series premiere, actress Kay Panabaker talked about her character’s power of telepathy and its pitfalls as a 16-year-old, how she would love to be able to read minds herself and that she would really like to be able to do physical stunts, at some point during the season. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

FAME (1980) and FAME (2009) Blu-ray Reviews

What may be most shocking about the 2009 remake of Fame is that it really is a remake. And with the release of both the 1980 original and remake now on Blu-ray, a quick compare and contrast can be done. Both films follow a group of students (in 1980, Maureen Teefy, Irene Cara, Paul McCrane, and Barry Miller are the stand outs, in 2009, it’s Kay Panabaker, Naturi Naughton, Walter Perez, and Paul Iacono)  through their four years at a prestigious New York performance arts school where they learn to act, sing and dance. My Reviews of both versions of Fame after the jump.

Exclusive On Set Video Interviews with the Cast of FAME – Paul Iacono, Kay Panabaker, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Naturi Naughton, Asher Book and Collins Pennie

When director Kevin Tancharoen’s reboot/reimagining/update of “Fame” was filming in Los Angeles last year, I was invited to the set to watch some filming and interview most of the cast. While Collider gets invited to a lot of set visits, this one was special because I was allowed to do all my interviews on camera. What that means is, instead of reading a transcript and listening to the audio, you can get to watch how excited everyone was to be making “Fame”. So if you’d like to see Paul Iacono, Kay Panabaker, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Naturi Naughton, Asher Book and Collins Pennie on set talking about making “Fame” and a lot more, hit the jump. Remember, “Fame” hits theaters this weekend.

Opening September 25th is the remake/reboot/reinvention of the hit 1980 movie “Fame”. The new one is similar to the original as it follows a group of dancers, singers, actors, and artists over four years at the New York City High School of Performing Arts. The cast is made up of mostly unknowns and it’s directed by Kevin Tancharoen – who is making his feature debut. While the production was filming in Los Angeles last year, I did a set visit and my video interviews with the cast will be online next week. So until then, we’ve been given 8 clips from the movie and you can watch them all after the jump:
