Just recently we learned that Casa de mi Padre director Matt Piedmont had been set to direct the long-in-the-works adaptation of Frank Portman’s novel King Dork for producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Now Variety reports that development is moving right along as Project X star Thomas Mann is now in final negotiations to start. The story, described as described as “part mystery, part coming-of-age tale, and part critique on teenage popular culture,” is set in 1987 and centers on two high school outsiders who bond over their love of classic rock. The protagonist finds his dead father’s copy of The Catcher in the Rye and his life changes forever. Hit the jump for more.

IT’S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY Blu-ray Review

by     Posted: June 21st, 2011 at 5:19 am

Quirky, coming-of-age indies are about a dime a dozen nowadays, and It’s Kind of a Funny Story is just that. However, thankfully Keir Gilchrist, Emma Roberts and Zach Galifianakis help make this familiar story feel fresh and charming. When 16-year old Craig (Gilchrist) checks himself into a mental clinic as a way of dealing with his thoughts of suicide, his new environment, some unlikely friends and young love just might be enough to help him realize that the stress he’s feeling at this stage in his life is inconsequential compared to some of the problems of those surrounding him. Read my take on the Blu-Ray release of this comedic drama after the jump.

Pardon the very brief intro but I have only a few moments before I need to run off to see the premiere of James Gunn’s Super.

Just a few minutes ago I recorded a video blog with Peter from Slashfilm after watching writer/directors Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden (Half Nelson, Sugar) new movie It’s Kind of a Funny Story.  The film stars Keir Gilchrist, Zach Galifianakis and Emma Roberts and it’s about a stressed out teenager who decides to check himself into an institution after thinking he might kill himself.  Once inside, he begins to see things differently with the help of Galifianakis’ character and Emma Roberts.
