Eli Roth has kept busy these past years with acting and producing roles, but his new film The Green Inferno will be his first feature directing gig since 2007′s Hostel: Part II. Roth has released a brief synopsis for The Green Inferno on his Tumblr: “A group of student activists from New York City travel to the Amazon to protect a dying tribe, but crash in the jungle and are taken hostage by the very natives they saved.” As you can see from the image, The Green Inferno looks like Roth’s spin on cannibal horror movies. I didn’t care for Hostel, but maybe Roth’s new flick has eased up on the torture porn.

Project X was a surprise of the year, a raunchy teen comedy that took advantage of a budget-trimming found-footage gimmick and was successful enough at the box office to warrant a sequel. Fans of Superbad, American Pie and The Hangover will find common ground with Project X, but the film goes even farther than any of them dared. So how can you enjoy the world’s most insane party without risking jail time and millions of dollars in property damage? Pick up Project X on Blu-ray so you can watch the madness from the comfort of your couch. Hit the jump for my review of director Nima Nourizadeh’s Project X on Blu-ray.

Imagine the ultimate high school senior year house party from the male perspective and push it over the edge. That’s a rough description of the absurdity and chaos that breaks out in the latest handheld camera film called Project X. Following three seniors trying to throw a party that will get them noticed once and for all, they end up losing control and everything turns into absolute chaos as it expands. However, that’s after they have a whole hell of a lot of fun getting there. Unfortunately, like waking up with a hangover, the ending of this film almost ruins what happened before. Almost. With producer Todd Phillips and director Nima Nourizadeh‘s R-rated teen comedy Project X opening in a few days, last weekend I got to talk with the filmmakers and cast about making the film. Starring Thomas Mann, Miles Teller, Oliver Cooper, Jonathan Daniel Brown, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Dax Flame, Nichole O’Connor and Alexis Knapp, Project X is about a group of outsiders that decide to throw a party where things get absolutely out of control. Trust me, there is no way you see this movie and leave the theater disappointed. For more on the film, here’s a ton of images and four clips.
During my interview with Kirby Bliss Blanton and Alexis Knapp we talked about how they filmed a lot of the movie in chronological order, what it was like to work with Todd Phillips, karaoke, how much fun they had shooting the movie, and their favorite movie, actor and director. A new red band spot for the Todd Phillips-produced party comedy Project X has gone online. The previous trailers have been entertaining enough, but this red band spot really brings out the “Rated R” aspect of the film. The movie looks to be sufficiently filthy, and this trailer highlights the first jokes from the film that I’ve found more than marginally funny. If the rest of the movie is like this trailer (which I assume it is), then I can definitely understand how most of the films jokes aren’t exactly age-appropriate. I’m still not on board with the whole “dwarf punching people in the balls” bit, but I think Project X takes an interesting approach to the comedy genre and Steve said he laughed his ass off, so I’m looking forward to checking it out.

The first trailer for the secretive comedy Project X has been unveiled. The film was produced by The Hangover director Todd Phillips, and the project has been a bit of a mystery as Phillips compiled a cast of relative unknowns (many found through an open casting call.) for the low-budget comedy. Now we’ve got our first look at the pic, and it looks like 90 minutes of insane debauchery. It appears to be filmed in the “found-footage” style that’s so popular nowadays, but instead of catching monsters and ghosts on camera, we get naked ladies and bongs. I’m definitely intrigued to see more, as it looks like it should be a pretty wild ride. The MPAA tag alone reads like a laundry list of bad behavior.

True to his word, The Hangover director Todd Phillips stuck to a mostly unknown cast for the enigmatic college comedy he’s producing, Project X. Pre-production has been shrouded in secrecy: we know that helming duties will be handled by commercial/music video director Nima Nourizadeh (making his feature debut), from a script by Matt Drake and Michael Bacall. But neither an official title nor a comprehensive logline have seen the light of day.
The casting process was fairly unique: in addition to the usual in-person sessions, young actors were able to submit their own agent-free audition online. In the end, Phillips and Co. landed on Miles Teller, Oliver Cooper, Jonathan Daniel Brown, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Dax Flame, Nichole O’Connor, and Alexis Knapp. More after the jump:
