In today’s opening paragraph I feel compelled to share this bit of wisdom with all of our readers: don’t ever attempt to renovate a house without ample professional help. Never. Just don’t do it. For the past three weeks I, the least handy person you may never meet, have been tasked with doing things that only Bob Vila and a few select others could be reasonably prepared for. It’s an all-consuming, seemingly neverending process that leaves you as the only movie blogger in the history of the civilized world who hasn’t yet seen The Avengers. Trust me, it’s a lonely place…

All warnings aside, in store for you in this week’s Top 5 is the first poster for the Anchorman sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues, pleasant news regarding the Blade Runner sequel, interviews with Cameron Diaz, Anna Kendrick and more for the rom-com What to Expect When You’re Expecting, the first trailer for producer Sam Raimi‘s The Possession, and a 4-minute “super preview” of The Amazing Spider-Man. Opening this weekend is director Kirk Jones’ What to Expect When You’re Expecting. The star-studded ensemble comedy tells the intertwining story of five couples that are having very different experiences while expecting babies.  The cast also includes Anna Kendrick, Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, Jennifer Lopez, Rodrigo Santoro, Joe Manganiello, Chace Crawford, Matthew Morrison, Brooklyn Decker, Thomas Lennon, and Wendy McLendon-Covey.  For more on the film, here’s the trailer and a TV spot.

At the recent Los Angeles press day I got to speak with most of the cast, and every day this week I’ve been posting a new interview.  If you missed them, here’s Chace Crawford with Anna Kendrick, Cameron Diaz with Matthew Morrison, and Elizabeth Banks and Ben Falcone.  Today I’ve got director Kirk Jones. During the interview he talked about the casting process, script changes, deleted scenes, his favorite film, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to watch.

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this evening. First up, THR reports that Gerard Butler is set to star in Millennium Films’ adaptation of Noah Boyd’s The Bricklayer. The thriller tells the story of a former FBI agent who is brought in by the bureau to help track down a criminal gang that’s demanding escalating ransom payments. Hanna Weg (Enigma) is writing the script, and Butler will also be producing the film alongside Alan Siegel and Danielle Robinson.

Additionally, Facts of Life star Kim Fields will make her feature film debut in Kirk Jones’ What to Expect When You’re Expecting. The film is the latest in the new genre of “lots of celebrities have minimal screentime in a movie that has interconnected stories,” and follows four different couples through the ups and downs of pregnancy. THR reports that the actress will play a social worker who helps a couple adopt. Fields joins Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Dennis Quaid, Anna Kendrick, Chace Crawford, Matthew Morrison, Brooklyn Decker, Wendy McLendon-Covey and Rob Huebel. Chace Crawford is the latest addition to the burgeoning cast of Kirk Jones’ (Everybody’s Fine) baby pic What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Lionsgate announced that the Gossip Girl star will play a man who reunites with an old flame (Anna Kendrick) following a turf war between their food trucks. Being the nice food truck attendant that he is, Crawford knocks Kendrick’s character up.

Based on the best-selling pregnancy guide, the film will tell the story of four interweaving couples Love Actually-style. The cast now includes Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Brooklyn Decker, Elizabeth Banks, and Rob Huebel. Rodrigo Santoro and Chris Rock are also reportedly in talks to join the cast. The cast of director Kirk Jones’ (Everybody’s Fine) baby book adaptation What to Expect When You’re Expecting keeps growing, as Chris Rock and Anna Kendrick have just signed on. The Love Actually-esque movie will follow six expectant couples through the ups and downs of pregnancy. Lionsgate announced that Kendrick will play a woman who reunites with an old flame following a turf war between their food trucks.

Per Deadline, Rock will play the leader of a group of expectant fathers who “lectures them on what it’s really like to have a baby and become a father.” Rock and Kendrick join a cast that includes Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Isla Fischer and Brooklyn Decker. Filming begins this summer, with What to Expect When You’re Expecting slated for a May 11^th, 2012 release.

Swimsuit model-turned actress Brooklyn Decker (Just Go With It) will join director Kirk Jones’ (Everybody’s Fine) adaptation of the bestselling book What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Decker joins a cast that already features Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, and Isla Fisher. Per Deadline, the actress will make a turn as the wife of an older man who makes carrying and giving birth to twins seem like a breeze, and is hated by her peers as a result. The pic begins shooting this summer and is aiming for a May 11th, 2012 release. In addition What to Expect, Decker also stars alongside Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Taylor Kitsch, Josh Pence, and Rihanna in director Peter Berg’s Battleship which is scheduled to hit theaters the week after What to Expect on May 18th.

Two more have joined the cast of What to Expect When You’re Expecting (yes, this is a movie). Following yesterday’s announcement that Jennifer Lopez was in talks to star, Vulture reports that Ed Helms and Isla Fisher are on board as well. The film follows six different couples, Love Actually-style, in the months and weeks leading up to baby-time.

Directed by Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee), the film also stars Cameron Diaz, with Matthew Morrison (Glee) circling a role, though his schedule may be too tight to join the cast. Fisher is taking on a part that was originally offered to Kristen Wiig, but the shooting schedule conflicted with her SNL commitments. Helms will be playing one of the expectant fathers. What to Expect When You’re Expecting hits theaters May 11^th, 2012 (please note that I did not use a “due date” joke here. I’ll be accepting medals and accolades at a later date.)

Since we’re apparently making movies out of baby books now, Cameron Diaz is close to being set to star in What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee) is directing from a script by Heather Hach (2003’s Freaky Friday) and Shauna Cross (Whip It!). Deadline reports that while nothing’s official yet, Diaz is expected to sign on to the film shortly. The approach to the flick is to tell a Love Actually-esque story, which is officially the only way to make self-help-based-romantic-comedies (yeah, that’s a thing now). The story will follow five expectant couples through the ups and downs of pregnancy.

Filed under “They’ll Make Anything into a Movie” is Phoenix Pictures’ adaptation of the famous guide for pregnant women, What to Expect When You’re Expecting.  The project now has a director as Deadline reports that Nanny McPhee helmer Kirk Jones has come on board.  Heather Hach (2003′s Freaky Friday) wrote the first draft for the romantic comedy and Whip It! screenwriter Shauna Cross did a rewrite.  The story will be done in the vein of Love, Actually and follow five expectant couples.  Hopefully Jones can deliver a movie that sounds better than “It’s like Nine Months times five!”
