Universal and Legendary Pictures have released a new Seventh Son trailer and poster along with some new images.  The plot follows mystical knight Father Gregory (Jeff Bridges) and his apprentice Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) and their fight to defeat the evil witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore) and her followers.  If you feel like you’ve been vaguely hearing about this movie off and on the past several years, it’s because you have.  Seventh Son was originally scheduled to open on February 15th…2013.  After being pushed back three times, the movie is now (probably) going to finally come out.  That’s a big build up for a movie where the Dude and Prince Caspian fight monsters, but we’ll see if it was worth the wait.

Andy Samberg, Kit Harington, Lena Dunham, and More to Lead HBO Sports Mockumentary 7 DAYS IN HELL

HBO is putting together a sports mockumentary project, and the network has pulled together a rather promising comedic ensemble.  Girls writer/co-executive producer Murray Miller is teaming up with Andy Samberg to create 7 Days in Hell, which is described as a mockumentary send-up of professional tennis.  Per THR, the one-off HBO Comedy Event will star Samberg as a superstar tennis “bad boy” who becomes embroiled in a seven-day tennis match at Wimbeldon with an Andy Murray-type prodigy and certified truck driver, played by Game of Thrones star Kit Harington.  The current roster also includes Fred Armisen, Lena Dunham, Will Forte, Karen Gillan, Howie Mandel, Michael Sheen, Mary Steenburgen, June Squibb, and Soledad O’Brien, who will play herself.

This sounds like the kind of delightfully goofy project that’s perfect for Samberg, and I’m very curious to see how Harington’s comedic skills stack up.  No word on when the project may air, but one assumes Samberg will have to fit the filming schedule into his hiatus from Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

HBO’s most popular TV series of all time, Game of Thrones, closed out its fourth season last night with almost certainly the show’s best finale yet.  Though traditionally the fantasy drama series has used its finales as a sort of denouement from the previous episode’s shocking events, last night’s episode packed a multitude of surprises, thrills, and emotion into a wholly satisfying 66 minutes.  Though we still have a while to wait before the show returns for season five, HBO has released a large gallery of images from last night’s episode for your perusing pleasure.  If you’re itching for a closer look at some of the more strange or impactful moments from the episode, these stills should be sufficient.

How to Train Your Dragon was not only a great and highly entertaining film that did huge worldwide box office numbers, but it was one of the best uses of 3D that I’ve seen in the cinema.  Needless to day, I was excited to see the sequel, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and it did not disappoint.  Five years have passed since the heroic young Viking Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) befriended a dragon named Toothless that led the residents of Berk to live side-by-side in peace with the fire-breathers.  Hiccup now has the respect of his father, Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler), the love of his girlfriend Astrid (America Ferrera) and has discovered his long-lost mother (Cate Blanchett), but the power-hungry Drago Bludvist (Djimon Hounsou) is threatening everything.  For more on the film, read Matt’s review.

At the recent L.A. press day, Collider had the opportunity to chat with Djimon Hounsou and Kit Harington, who are both new to the popular franchise.  During the exclusive interview, they talked about what makes their more villainous characters the hero of their own story, and how much the film changed from what they were first told to what we see on screen.  Kit Harington also talked about what it’s like to be a part of Game of Thrones, which recently became the most watched show in HBO’s history, while Djimon Hounsou talked about what fans can get excited about with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which he hasn’t actually seen yet.  Watch the video after the jump.

Watch: 3 GAME OF THRONES Featurettes Go Behind the Scenes of Last Night’s Episode “The Watchers on the Wall”

Many count the season two episode “Blackwater” as the high point for Game of Thrones.  It’s a departure for the series in that it takes place exclusively in one location during a finite amount of time, and director Neil Marshall executes the titular battle in grand fashion with a wonderful emphasis on small character moments.  The series did a bit of a callback to “Blackwater” with last night’s episode “The Watchers on the Wall”, once again bringing Marshall back to direct and focusing on one specific battle for the duration of its runtime.  The result wasn’t quite as impactful as “Blackwater” (Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch aren’t near as interesting as Tyrion, Joffrey, The Hound, etc.), but the episode was damn entertaining, and now HBO has released a trio of featurettes that take fans behind the scenes of how the penultimate episode of season four came together.

Following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, DreamWorks Animation has released a batch of How to Train Your Dragon 2 clips.  The film picks up five years after the events of the first film, as Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless are exploring new territories while the rest of their friends are enjoying dragon races.  During one of Hiccup and Toothless’ journeys, they discover a secret ice cave, hundreds of new wild dragons, and the mysterious Dragon Rider.  This continues to be one of my most anticipated films of the year, and these latest clips only serve to make the wait seem that much longer.

DreamWorks Animation has released the first five minutes from How to Train Your Dragon 2 online.  The long-awaited DreamWorks Animation sequel picks up five years after the events of the first film, as Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless are exploring new territories while the rest of their friends are enjoying dragon races.  During one of Hiccup and Toothless’ journeys, they discover a secret ice cave, hundreds of new wild dragons, and the mysterious Dragon Rider.  I assume this clip is for one of two groups: 1) People who can’t stand the four-year wait for the sequel any longer, and just need to get another glimpse right now (two clips have already been released); or 2) People who plan on being super late to the movie.

A new How to Train Your Dragon 2 clip has been released online, and it should bring to mind another recent fantasy franchise. This new clip provides a look at the aforementioned dragon races, as the main characters take part in a Quidditch-esque game that involves picking up sheep and dropping them into baskets.  It highlights the film’s great sense of humor, gorgeously colorful animation, and soaring score, making the wait for its release that much harder.

DreamWorks Animation has released a new How to Train Your Dragon 2 trailer and poster.  Director Dean Deblois’ animated sequel takes place five years after the first installment, as Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless are exploring new territories while the rest of their friends are enjoying dragon races.  During one of Hiccup and Toothless’ journeys, they discover a secret ice cave, hundreds of new wild dragons, and the mysterious Dragon Rider.  This trailer has the blend of humor and drama I was hoping the movie would provide, and I’m surprised and encouraged that they’re leaning more heavily on the emotional side than the comedy even though the jokes are still funny.  The first How to Train Your Dragon set a high bar.  The sequel could very well meet it.

The fourth season premiere of HBO’s massively popular drama series Game of Thrones is just a few short days away, and in anticipation of the event, the network has unveiled a new gallery of images teasing the new season.  These 10 episodes will cover roughly the second half of the third book in George R.R. Martin’s series, A Storm of Swords, and as we can see in these images, many characters will find themselves in precarious situations.  Most notably, this new image gallery gives us a close look at Daenerys’ (Emilia Clarke) dragons, which have grown considerably since we last saw them.

HBO has released yet another trailer for the fourth season of Game of Thrones.  Watching this trailer, it’s important to remember that there are still only ten episodes, and we’ve got quite a lot of storylines on our hands.  At some point, we may want to be grateful for some character deaths if only to unburden the plot.  Of course, I say that now and then all the characters I like will probably be slaughtered.  So much for the bright side.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The show stars Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Charles Dance, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Maisie Williams, Aiden Turner, Iain Glen, Rose Leslie, Carice Van Houten, Alfie Allen, Diana Rigg, Natalie Dormer, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, and Isaac Hempstead Wright.  New cast this season include Pedro Pascal, Michiel Huisman, and Indira VarmaGame of Thrones returns on April 6th at 9pm on HBO.

New Posters for GAME OF THRONES Season 4 Remind Us “All Men Must Die”

Like the recent trailer, a batch of new posters for the fourth season of Game of Thrones seems bent on preparing us for an onslaught of characters deaths.  The tagline “All Men Must Die” is translation of “Valar morghulis”, which is the High Valyrian taught to Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) by Jaqen H’ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) in season two.  The previous set of posters focused on the Lanisters, and now the rest of the cast is getting their close-ups.  If you’re like me and haven’t read the books, how many of these poor sods are going to make it to season five.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  The show also stars Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Charles Dance, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Aiden Turner, Iain Glen, Rose Leslie, Carice Van Houten, Alfie Allen, Diana Rigg, Natalie Dormer, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, and Isaac Hempstead Wright.  New cast this season include Pedro Pascal, Michiel Huisman and Indira Varma. There’s about to be a True Detective-sized hole in my Sunday night viewing, but thankfully there won’t be too long of a wait for more quality television.  Game of Thrones returns in April, and so HBO is seriously ramping up the marketing.  Today, they’ve released teasers focusing on the Starks, Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), and Tyrion (Peter Dinklage).  There are also character posters for the Lannisters, presumably because they always pay their debts.

Landing just outside of this week’s Top 5 and earning an opening paragraph mention as a result is the first trailer and poster for writer/editor/director Ti West‘s The Sacrament. Obviously inspired by 1978′s Jonestown Massacre, the film features a team of journalists who attempt to document the story of a seemingly peaceful religious commune only to have the proverbial shit hit the fan in the process. I think West is among the best working directors in terms of creating and maintaining terror as evidenced by both 2009′s The House of the Devil and 2011′s The Innkeepers. Each of those films expertly sustain a sense of dread throughout and if Gene Jones hauntingly daring the visiting journalists to “Take it…” in this first trailer is any indication, The Sacrament looks to be cut from the same stellar mold. While it will be tough to match the psychological horror dealt out by 2011′s cult-centric drama Martha Marcy May Marlene, I’ll be anxiously anticipating West’s latest up until the time it hits VOD on May 1st.

Transitioning to the list section of the feature, this week’s installment highlights the first trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Steve’s set visit coverage for X-Men: Days of Future Past, interviews for and Matt’s review of Paul W.S. Anderson‘s Pompeii, casting news for Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot, and coverage from the floor of Toy Fair 2014 at the Javits Center in NYC. Keep reading for a quick recap and link to each of the above.
