January Jones and Kristen Schaal Join Will Forte in Amazing-Sounding Fox Comedy LAST MAN ON EARTH

by     Posted 19 days ago

I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for an impending TV series, but I cannot wait to see The Last Man on Earth.  The Fox comedy hails from creator Will Forte and executive producers Phil Lord & Chris Miller—you know, the geniuses behind 21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie, and Clone High.  Forte stars in the show as Phil Miller, the literal last man on Earth who is living out his days alone on the planet.  We previously saw a teaser for the show before production began, giving us a brief taste of what we might expect from the series.  Forte subsequently grew out a massive beard before beginning production on the show in earnest, and despite the title, we now have a few new additions to the cast that include Mad Men alum January Jones and Bob’s Burgers star Kristen Schaal.  More after the jump.

Casey Wilson and Kristen Schaal Talk THE HOTWIVES OF ORLANDO, Shooting 7 Episodes in 7 Days, Reality TV, GONE GIRL, and More

by     Posted 151 days ago

The Hulu original series The Hotwives of Orlando is a hilarious and raunchy parody of one of the most popular franchises in reality television.  It takes you inside the uber-exclusive and glamorous world of six hot housewives in the sexy city of Orlando, as they fight over pretty much everything, except for their love of shoes, plastic surgery and spending all of their husbands’ money.  The seven-episode series stars Casey Wilson, Kristen Schaal, Angela Kinsey, Tymberlee Hill, Andrea Savage, and show creators Dannah Phirman and Danielle Schneider.

During the Hulu portion of the TCA Press Tour, co-stars Casey Wilson (who plays self-obsessed trophy wife, Tawny St. John) and Kristen Schaal (who plays former child star Amanda Simmons) spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how this show came about, why they wanted to get involved, shooting all seven episodes in seven days, what they think of reality television, and that they could get as outrageous as they wanted.  Casey Wilson also talked about the stark contrast of doing numerous takes for her role in director David Fincher’s upcoming film, Gone Girl (in theaters on October 3rd).  Check out what they had to say after the jump.

The Toy Story shorts have been a nice way of continuing the franchise without the burden of heavy expectations that would come with a new feature film.  Thus far, they’ve been fun little episodes that are nice ways to warm up a crowd of kids for a Disney feature.  But with Toy Story of Terror!, Pixar has made their most ambitious Toy Story short film to date.  In addition to being the longest short film, it’s also the first one to push beyond being cute and provide some drama and tension.  Once the film gets past a rough start, it ends up being as funny and as emotionally moving as any of the three features.

First Image from New TOY STORY Short, TOY STORY OF TERROR

Pixar continues to roll out Toy Story shorts, and this Halloween we’ll be getting another one.  Disney has announced that they’ll be releasing Toy Story of Terror on ABC.  According to TV Guide, the short will be 30-minutes long, and has the toys staying in a motel after Bonnie takes them on a road trip only to have the car break down along the way.  Once inside the spooky motel, one of the toys goes missing, and “the rest of the gang will find themselves caught up in a mysterious sequence of events that must be solved before they all suffer the same fate.”  The short will appeal to kids, but adults should enjoy references to Psycho, Aliens, and Predator.  One of the Predator references could be the return of Combat Carl (from the first movie), who will be voiced by Carl Weathers.  The gang will be joined by Toy Story 3 toys, Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton) and Trixie (Kristen Schaal).

New Details on CLOUDY 2: REVENGE OF THE LEFTOVERS; Terry Crews Joins Voice Cast

by     Posted 2 years, 120 days ago

I love Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and I have high expectations for the upcoming sequel, Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers.  Details on the film have been scarce, but now EW is reporting that the plot revolves around Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) returning to Swallow Falls to clean up the mess created by the FLDSMDFR only to find that food is now taking on the form of mutant beasts.  “Magically, every creature is a combination of a food item and an animal that results in just a cringeworthy pun,” says producer Kirk Bodyfelt.  As a fan of cringeworthy puns, this makes me even more excited for the flick.

Hit the jump for more.  Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers opens in 3D on February 7, 2014.

Adam Brody to Star in Neil LaBute Adaptation SOME GIRLS and Island Comedy WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

by     Posted 2 years, 338 days ago

I am an unabashed fan of The O.C., which is equivalent to being an Adam Brody supporter.  His career never took off like we all expected after the Fox soap signed off the air 2007, but there’s still time for the 32-year-old actor to flourish.  The next couple years promises a flurry of Brody, including Damsels in Distress, The Oranges, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, and Lovelace.  At least one of those ought to stick, but tonight we received word of two more starring vehicles for Brody: Some Girls and Welcome to the JungleSome Girls is a feature adaptation of the Neil LaBute play bout a successful writer who meets with five ex-girlfriends before his wedding.  Welcome to the Jungle also features Rob Huebel, Dennis Haysbert, Kristen Schaal, and Jean-Claude Van Damme(!) as a group of co-workers who go on an office retreat and end up stranded on a tropical island.  Hit the jump for more on each project.

FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS and THE DAILY SHOW Star Kristen Schaal to Guest Star on 30 ROCK

by     Posted 3 years, 33 days ago

On the TV side of things, Kristen Schaal has turned in some hilarious supporting performances on Flight of the Conchords as the band’s one and only super fan, and the bunny-eared daughter on Bob’s Burgers, not to mention showing up as a contributor to The Daily Show from time to time. Now THR reports the comedienne has snagged a multi-episode arc on 30 Rock when the show returns early next year. Right now her role is being kept under wraps, but guest stars usually get to have a lot of fun, especially in the case of multi-episode guests like Jon Hamm and Jason Sudeikis. She’s a quirky and hilarious actress, and adding her to 30 Rock for awhile should be a great treat. You can next see Schaal in an adorable but brief role in The Muppets next week.

Viral Website and First Clip for BUTTER Starring Jennifer Garner [UPDATED]

by     Posted 3 years, 84 days ago

It looked as thought the Weinstein Company would give Butter a limited Oscar-qualifying run in 2011 before opening the film wide in 2012, but that may no longer be the case.  The studio has just launched a viral website for the movie along with the first clip.  The clip features aspiring butter carving champion Laura Pickler (Jennifer Garner) giving a speech for why her butter statue deserves to win.  You’ll see that Garner is going full-Palin in her performance, which is an odd choice since the script initially sets up the satire that Pickler is a Hillary Clinton-type figure: her husband (Ty Burrell) is the former butter carving champion and he cheats on her but she’s keeping her politicial aspirations high since because she believes winning at butter carving will help launch her campaign for governor.  As I said in my review, if Butter had simply picked a tone and stuck with it, the movie probably wouldn’t have been such a disappointing mess.

Hit the jump to check out the clip.  The film also stars Olivia Wilde, Ashley Greene, Rob Corddry, Alicia Silverstone, Yara Shahidi, Kristen Schaal, and Hugh Jackman.  No release date has been announced for Butter. [Update: We have removed the clip and the link to the site at the request of The Weinstein Company because the site and the clip aren't ready for public consumption yet.]

BOB’S BURGERS Series Premiere Review

by     Posted 3 years, 345 days ago

It might be hard to believe that an animated series is hitting Fox without a previous network name involved. This time around the new addition to Animation Domination doesn’t come from Matt Groening (The Simpsons and Futurama), Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, American Dad) or Mike Judge (King of the Hill). Loren Bouchard (creator of Home Movies) is behind Bob’s Burgers, a comedy that follows Bob and his questionably sanitary burger joint that also employs his wife and three young children. Though the pilot sees the burger join itself in jeopardy of being shut down, there’s plenty of reasons to want Bob’s Burgers to stay open for business and serve up even more laughter. Find out why after the jump.

Kristen Schaal and Estelle Harris Exclusive Video Interview TOY STORY 3

Estelle Harris and Kristen Schaal Video Interview TOY STORY 3 slice

This past weekend, I went to Pixar Animation Studios for the Toy Story 3 press day (it is so cool to be able to write that and have it be true).  It’s one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year and I think a lot of people are going to enjoy themselves when they see it.

I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with stars Kristen Schaal and Estelle Harris.  Schaal plays “Trixie”, a triceratops that’s one of the new toys in the film.  Harris returns as Mrs. Potato Head, who has a much larger role in Toy Story 3 than she did in the previous movie.  Schaal is perhaps best known for her role as the lovable-stalker “Mel” on HBO’s Flight of the Conchords.  As for Harris, she’s done a wide variety of movies and television, but her most famous role is Estelle Costanza on Seinfeld.  Hit the jump to check out the interview and check back tomorrow as I’ll be posting my final Toy Story 3 interview.  You can click here for my interview with director Lee Unkrich and producer Darla K. Anderson, and click here for my interview with Joan Cusack and Timothy Dalton.  Toy Story 3 hits theaters this Friday.

TOY STORY 3 Director Lee Unkrich Reveals Casting Info and Great News Regarding the TOY STORY 1 & 2 3D DOUBLE FEATURE

by     Posted 5 years, 69 days ago

“Toy Story 3″ director Lee Unkrich decided to just be a ray of sunshine and good cheer today by revealing some new (and slightly used) pieces of news.  First, Kristen Schaal of “Flight of the Conchords” and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” will be playing a new character although Unkrich wouldn’t say who (which may mean the character isn’t in the new trailer although that’s just speculation).  As for who will replace the late, great Jim Varney as the voice of Slinky, character actor and Varney’s friend Blake Clark will honor his friend by playing the role.  Finally, and what I think is the most important piece of news, the “Toy Story 1 & 2 3D Double Feature” will extend its run in theaters.  Unkrich says that’s good because that way more people can see the “Toy Story 3″ trailer in 3D but I say it’s good because you owe it to yourself to re-experience these film and if you’re a parent with young kids, you must take your kids to see these movies or else everyone will know that you’re a bad parent who hates their kids and wants them to be miserable.

Hit the jump for the full video of Unkrich’s brief details on “Toy Story 3″ which hits theaters on June 18^th , 2010.
