The first trailer and poster for the period submarine thriller Phantom have been released online.  The film stars Ed Harris as the captain of a Cold War Soviet submarine who, after being rushed into a classified mission, discovers that his submarine is being taken over by a rogue KGB group.  David Duchovny plays the leader of the KGB group, and this trailer looks like it may just give away the entire plot of the film.  We haven’t seen a good submarine thriller in quite a long time, so here’s hoping Phantom delivers.

The animated series TRON: Uprising, premiering on Disney XD on June 7^th, takes place after the 1982 feature film and before the events in TRON: Legacy. Produced in CG animation with a 2D aesthetic, the series follows the heroic journey of a new character named Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood), a young program who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid.  You can watch the first episode here.

At a press day for the show, actor Lance Henriksen – who voices General Tesler, the eccentric power hungry dictator that is Clu’s main henchman, tasked with bringing order to Argon City and taking down The Renegade, aka Beck – talked about what he likes best about this animated series, what he enjoys about bringing such a villain to life, whether he likes playing the hero or the villain more, the voice-over work he does in video games, and whether there could ever be a Millennium movie. While fans of TRON may be holding their breath waiting for a sequel to 2010′s TRON: Legacy, Disney XD aims to hold you over with their futuristic animated series, TRON: Uprising.  With the debut of the first episode set to air on the network tomorrow (unless you’ve already watched it here), Disney has released a behind-the-scenes featurette with tons of footage and some great cast commentary from the recent press junket. We were lucky enough to bring you interviews with stars Elijah Wood, who plays Beck, and Mandy Moore, who voices Mara.

TRON: Uprising also stars Emmanuelle Chriqui, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen, Reginald VelJohnson, Paul Reubens, Tricia Helfer and, of course, Bruce Boxleitner. The first episode, “Beck’s Beginning,” will air Friday, May 18 (9:30 – 10:00 p.m., ET/PT) with an uninterrupted encore on Disney XD on Monday, May 21 (7:00 p.m. ET/PT), followed by the series launch on Thursday, June 7 (9:00 p.m.).  Hit the jump to see the featurette.

While many TRON fans are still waiting (possibly in vain) for a sequel to TRON: Legacy, Disney XD is bringing fresh TRON goodness right into the comfort of your own living room.  The animated TRON: Uprising series doesn’t debut until June 7th, the first episode has been put online for those that are eager to get a peek at what’s in store.  I’m not exactly the biggest TRON fan, but I’ve heard really great things about Uprising.  From the bit of this episode that I watched, the animation looks pretty nifty and I’m sure fans of the films will enjoy visiting the TRON world through a weekly series.  The story takes place between the events of TRON and TRON: Legacy.

Disney’s new animated series, TRON: Uprising, released a new trailer in preparation for its launch date this June.  Earlier this month, we brought you a new poster and some footage, along with a TV spot and a new image.  The new trailer, however, gives us a better sense of the conflict in the world and what the characters’ roles are within it.  The animation reminds me a bit of the style of Peter Chung (Aeon Flux, Reign: The Conqueror); make of that what you will since it’s not exactly for everyone.  TRON: Uprising features the voices of Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reubens, Reginald VelJohnson and Bruce Boxleitner and debuts June 7th. Last week, we showed you a poster and some brief footage from the upcoming animated TV series, TRON: Uprising, and now a new TV spot and image have gone online.  The series takes place between 1982′s TRON and 2010′s TRON: Legacy.  In the animated series, the protagonist, a program named Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood), starts an uprising (the title isn’t misleading!) in the fight against Clu and his second-in-command, General Tesler (Lance Henriksen).  Beck was previously trained to fight by Tron (Bruce Boxleitner), but then Tron disappeared.

TRON: Uprising will have to carry the TRON brand while Disney mulls giving the greenlight to TRON 3, but I don’t know how interesting the series can be since Beck’s “uprising” clearly didn’t do much to stop Clu.  Then again, Star Wars: The Clone Wars is ridiculously popular, and everyone knows how that story ends.  TRON obviously has a lot more work to do to build up that kind of audience, but at least there’s a precedent.  Hit the jump to check out the TV spot and image.  The show also features the voices of Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Nate Corddry, and Reginald VelJohnson. If you’ve been wondering what’s the status of Tron: Uprising, you’ll be happy to learn the show premieres this June on Disney XD.  Featuring the voices of Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen, and Bruce Boxleitner, Tron: Uprising covers the events between the original TRON and Tron: Legacy.  The series is directed and executive produced by Charlie Bean (Samurai Jack) with Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (the writers of Tron: Legacy) acting as consulting producers.

With the show premiering soon, a poster and some new footage has hit the net and it features our first real look at the series.  If you thought Tron: Uprising was going to look like the first trailer, you might be a bit disappointed.  But as someone that loves the world of Tron and is still hoping for another sequel, I can’t wait to watch the series.  Hit the jump for more.

In Scream of the Banshee, a college professor (Lauren Holly) opens a mysterious box that was found hidden in the tunnels under her university. When she and her students hear the bone-splitting scream of a banshee, they all become fated to die a terrible death. Now the professor, her daughter and a few of her students must try to stop the banshee, before it’s too late.

During a recent interview to promote the premiere of the 200^th original movie for SyFy, actor Lance Henriksen talked about his eccentric character, the challenge of taking on a role unlike anything he’s done before, working at a plantation house in Louisiana, releasing his autobiography on his birthday (May 5^th), his reflections on his time on the television series Millennium, and what he sees as his dream role. Oh, The Last Airbender, you stupid movie.  You are the first thing most people think of when they hear “The Last Airbender,” and I hate you for that.  There’s such a fantastic mythology at the heart of the Nickelodeon cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender, all of which was referenced but never explored in the lifeless film adaptation.

Avatar creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are on a mission to reclaim the phrase “The Last Airbender” with The Legend of Korra, a new series set 70 years later when rebellious teenage girl Korra becomes the new avatar.  The voice cast has been announced: Janet Varney will play Kara — Kiernan Shipka, Daniel Dae Kim, David Faustino, Seychelle Gabriel , Lance Henriksen, P.J. Byrne, and JK Simmons will supply additional voices.

The Legend of Korra is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2012.  Check out two new images after the break.

After TRON: Legacy landed with a thud, I’ve found it difficult to care about where the story goes from here.  However, Disney still believes in their black-and-neon franchise and they’re moving forward with the new animated series TRON: Uprising.  The series will air on Disney XD in summer 2012 and cover the events between the original TRON and Legacy.  A teaser trailer for the series has gone online and if you loved TRON: Legacy, then you’ll probably love this too.  It has light cycles and stuff.

More promising is an upcoming remix of TRON: Legacy‘s outstanding score.  Pitchfork reports that Disney will release Tron: Legacy R3CONFIGUR3D on April 5th and it will feature M83, Photek, Moby, Com Truise, and others remixing Daft Punk’s score.  The remix soundtrack is available to buy in various special editions on the score’s official website.  Hit the jump to check out the TRON: Uprising trailer and the track list for Tron: Legacy R3CONFIGUR3D.

With Disney’s long awaited sequel Tron Legacy hitting theaters in a little over a month, fans are foaming at the mouth for everything Tron related. Even after the movie gets released, audiences will have something new to look forward to on the grid as Variety reports Disney XD has ordered Tron: Uprising an animated series being developed for release in the summer of 2012. Charlie Bean (Samurai Jack) will executive produce and direct the series, so you know the action will be amazing, and Tron Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz will serve as consulting producers. Last year, we brought you loads of coverage from AFM (American Film Market).  AFM is where buyers and sellers do business to bring you the films you might be seeing in the near future.  They use artwork and synopses which are used for promotional purposes but which we use to bring you news on these films.  With this year’s AFM gearing up, we have artwork and synopsis on four upcoming movies: On the Inside starring Nick Stahl and Olivia Wilde; The Witches of Oz (which is actually a mini-series) starring Christopher Lloyd, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, and Lance Henriksen; The Eagle Path written, produced, directed by, and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme; and Bridge to Nowhere starring Ving Rhames, Danny Masterson, and Bijou Phillipps, and directed by Blair Underwood.

As The Expendables looks to blow its way onto the big screen, Lionsgate has returned to the somewhat honorable practice of releasing tie-in titles on Blu-ray. This includes an extended cut of Rambo, the 1989 Sylvester Stallone prison picture Lock Up, and – from the same year – the Walter Hill minor classic Johnny Handsome. Though Rambo was made twenty years after the fact, they all feel very late 80’s in their way, which is perfect in setting the tone for The Expendables. All of the three are very enjoyable in a machismo, cheap beer sort of way, and with talents like Stallone, Donald Sutherland, Tom Sizemore, Sonny Landam, John Amos, Frank McRae, Mickey Rourke, Lance Henriksen, Ellen Barkin, Morgan Freeman, and Forrest Whitaker adding oomph to the cast, there’s a lot of red meat to chew on. Much has been made about the upcoming Oscars battle between exes Kathyrn Bigelow and James Cameron – with their movies, The Hurt Locker and Avatar, respectively, tied with a leading nine nominations each – but as you’ll see from this crazy music video, they often had a lot of fun when they were still on speaking terms.

The clip is for the song “Reach” by an ’80s new wave band called Martini Ranch, which just happened to feature actor Bill Paxton (which was all news to me until just now), and the video was directed by Cameron himself. As you’ll see on the jump, it’s the definition of ’80s excess, and will have you yearning for the days when music videos at their best were elevated to mini-movies. In something that looks like a surreal mashup of Bigelow’s Near Dark (still her best movie in my book) and Deadwood, Paxton stars as a bank robber on the run in the Wild West, and Near Dark stars Adrian Pasdar and Lance Henriksen make appearances, as does Judge Reinhold. Best of all, however, is that Bigelow herself leads an all-female posse of bounty hunters on his trail, and to be as piggish as possible, just looks sensationally hot doing it.

Anchor Bay Films is going to get a pass from me for a while because they picked up Broken Lizard’s newest film, “The Slammin’ Salmon” and will distribute it to theaters this December.  Every time I saw an update from BL on Facebook, I would wonder when I would finally get to see the movie which premiered at Slamdance this past January.  Now I get to see it before the end of the year and I’m beyond excited.  Hit the jump for details.
